Efficient Energy?
Energy efficiency
According to the International Energy Agency, energy efficiency in appliances, buildings, industrial processes and transportation could reduce the worlds energy needs by one third, and help control global emissions of greenhouse gases
Because we are energy starved Because energy is highly non-renewable Because energy and GHG are related-and connected to rising temperatures, mean sea levels-causing climate changes Because development must be sustainable and we need to preserve natural resources for future generations, to keep the environment pollution free and to preserve biodiversity
Energy efficiency and renewable energy are said to be the twin pillars of sustainable energy policy

Governments Should:
Energy efficiency
Declare the energy efficiency strategy and commitments. Promote the use of renewable energy. Ensure that verifiable energy efficiency options are allowed to compete directly with energy supply options in resource procurement and wholesale markets. Oblige the appropriate energy sector entity (e.g. regulated utility, competitive retail supplier or third-party entity) to deliver cost-effective energy efficiency to end-use consumers. Require that energy customers be provided with costreflective pricing, supporting information and technology necessary for consumers to better understand and manage energy use. Utilise energy tariffs as a funding mechanism for energy efficiency.
Policy Changes
Energy efficiency
Tax incentives National action plan for energy efficient appliances Legislation implementation and monitoring Subsidizing low energy options Rewarding energy efficiency as incentive Raising awareness at all levels Phase-out inefficient lighting products Promote improved lighting systems design and management by ensuring that building codes Increase the share of renewable energy in the energy mix Context specific research for realistic standards
