7. Do you think woman/ women are suitable candidates to be selected to your local council, urban council or municipal council?

This graph indicates that out of 1297 surveyed people, 1059 (81.6%) had said yes, 138 (10.6%) have said no and 100 (7.7%) people have not given any response. From that, 43.9% from the Badulla district, 23.4% from the Kurunegala district and 32.7% from the Galle district have replied as suitable. Accordingly, most number of people who have said that women are suitable comes from the Badulla District. 138 people from the three districts have said that women are not suitable and the most number of people who have said that women are not suitable comes from Kurunegala district. It is 58.7%. Least number of people saying that they are not suitable comes from Badulla district. It is 10.9%. It is evident from the above information that most number of surveyed people has replied to the fact that women should be represented at local government institutions. It is 81.6%.

08. Have you seen/ heard/ read about the advertisements launched on increasing womnes political representation during the last six months? According to the above graph, among the commercials advertised on news papers, radios, televisions and by other methods, most number of people has seen the advertisements telecasted on television. It is 66.9%. When considering the above data according district wise, most number of people from the Badulla district has responded to it. It is 79.8%. 74.1% from the Galle district and 43.8% from the Kurunegala district have responded. After television, the highest number of responses has come from the news paper advertisements. A total number of 44.9% people have replied from the three districts. Most number of people who have replied comes from the Badulla district. It is 50.9%. 43.1% of people from Galle and 39.3% people from Kurunegala have also replied. The total number of people who listened by the radio is 29.8% and the most number of replies have come from Galle district. It is 43.7%. 37.1% of people from Kurunegala and 13% of people from Badulla have also replied. Least number of replies is on other methods. (Posters, banners, street play, hand bills, campaigns). It is 4.78% and according to district level figures, the most replied district is Galle. It is 13.1%.

According to this data, it is clear that most number of people have seen the advertisements telecasted through the television. It is 66.9%. 10. What is your opinion on women entering politics? Among 1297 people from the three surveyed districts, 438 (33.8%) have said excellent, 308 (23.7%) have said very good, 487 (37.5%) gave said good and 487 (37.5%) have said not good to womens representation at the local government level. 1.2% (15) people have not given any response. Accordingly, most number of people has said good to womens representation. It is 37.5%. The most number of replies for good comes from the Kurunegala district. It is 54.5% (219). The least number of replies are for not good and it is 3.8%. The least number of replies received district for that question is Badulla district. It is 2.6%. In Provincial councils, 429 (33.1%) people have said excellent 26.1% people have said good, 35.7% people have said not good and 1.6% people have not given any response.

As a whole, with regard to provincial councils, most number of people has replied as good and it is 35.7% (463).

According to the district wise data, Kurunegala district has the highest number of replied for good and it is 49% (200).

Not good has received the lowest number of replies and it is 3.5%. Badulla district is the least number of replies received district on that. It is 2.2%. When analyzing the opinion about the national level, most people have replied for excellent. It is 526 (40.6%). 260 people have said very good, 442 (34.1%) people have said good, 47 (3.6%) people have said not good and 22 (1.7%) people have not given any response. Accordingly, as a whole, most of the people from all three districts have stated excellent. It is 40.6% (526). District wise, Galle district has the highest number of replies for excellent. It is 54.3%. The lowest number of replies for not good has come from Badulla district. It is 2.2%.

As a whole, in all three districts with regard to the replies excellent, very good, and good, most number of replies have received about womens representation at the local government level. It is 95%. It is 94.9% with regard to provincial council level and 94.7% with regard to the national level. Also, in all three structures, the most number of replies that have been received for excellent is for womens representation at the national level. It is 40.6%. replies on womens representation at the provincial level is 33.8%. Most of the replies received for very good are about provincial council representation. It is 26.1%. Most number of replies received for good is on local government representation. It is 37.5%. According to this data, it is evident that most of people have said that there is a big importance in representation of women at the local government level. It is 95%. But when we consider it with the provincial level and the national level, it is not a big increase. The reason for that is that when you compare it with the replies given at the provincial level, there is only a increase of 0.1%. Comparing it with the national level, it is only a increase of 0.3%. 11. Have you heard of a quota system with regard to womens representation in politics? According to the graph above, it is clear that 680 (52.4%) have said yes to knowing about a quota system, 541 (41.7%) said no and 76 (5.9%) people have not given any response. According to the district wise data, the most number of replies received for yes has been from the Badulla district it is 304 (60.7%). It is 204 (51.8%) in Galle and 172 (42.8%) in Kurunegala. Form the total number of 541 (41.7%) people who have replied no, the most number of replies have been from the Kurunegala district. It is 215 (53%). It is 177 (44.9%) in Galle and 149 (29.5%) in Badulla. From the total number of 76 (5.9%) people, the most number of people who have not given any response comes from Badulla district and it is 48 (9.6%). It is3.7% in Kurunegala and 3.3% in Galle. It is evident from the above data that from the 1297 people surveyed, 680 (52.4%) people of them have said that they have heard about a quota. 12. Will you vote for a woman at the next local government election? Yes/ no

982 (75.7%) people from the three districts have said yes, they would vote for a woman and 207 (16%) people have said they would not vote for a woman. 108 (8.3%) people have not given any response. According to district wise data, the most number of yes has come from Galle district. It is 88.8%. 84.2% from Badulla district and 52.7% from Kurunegala district have responded. The most number of replies received for no has come from Kurunegala district. It is 31.3%. 10.9% have replied from Galle district and the least number of replies has come from Badulla. It is 7.6%. From the people who have not given any response, Kurunegala district is the highest district that did not get any reply and it is 15.9. According to this data, from the total number of people surveyed, most of them has said that they will vote for a woman.
