1 INTRODUCTION
Karachi Tools, Dies & Moulds Centre (KTDMC) is providing state of the art training, consultancy, design & manufacturing services and facilities in the following areas: CAD/CAM/CAE Sheet Metal Dies Injection Moulds Die Casting Moulds Die and Mould Accessories Reverse Engineering Rapid Prototyping Heat Treatment of Dies and Moulds The primary objective of KTDMC is to establish and run an Information Technology based common facility centre, primarily for improving the skills of the engineers and designers.KTDMC intends to train professionals enhance the quality of designing, engineering and manufacturing of tools, dies and moulds especially for plastic and polymer moulds, sheet metal dies and aluminum pressure die casting moulds through latest technologies including computer aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) and computer aided engineering (CAE).This is particularly important for the small and medium businesses which cannot otherwise afford large investments to set up such facilities for themselves. Our major aim is to enable local industry to produce TDM based finished products of international quality and assist local industry in producing high quality tooling, with direct benefits of foreign exchange savings. KTDMC is equipped to raise the skill level of 550 workers annually as part of its training activities. This in turn will generate employment and increase the standard of living. We offer special training courses for engineers under skill development and enhancement program with outstandingly reduced charges just to groom engineers as per the local and foreign market of IT based (CAD/CAM/CAE) engineering. In addition to training KTDMC is providing guidance, facilities and services to the engineers and designers of local engineering and vendor industry for improving

design, productivity and product quality through modern TDM applications. This includes: Advice to improve productivity, quality and guidance for running project to formulate manufacturing strategies, incorporating international standardization requirements and design analysis services. Design, development and manufacture of production tools, dies, moulds, jigs, fixtures, metal cutting & forming and rapid prototyping. Technical services in conventional and CNC machining, heat treatment, diecasting, precision grinding and inspection Integrate CAD applications seamlessly with CAM, CAE, and visualization technologies. Leverage 3D designs both downstream into the manufacturing domain and across organizations. Embed manufacturing operations knowledge directly into 3D product designs and components. Reduce the number of formal engineering changes and associated delays with an iterative and convivial product design review workflow between engineering and manufacturing early in the product lifecycles. Provide technical literature, books, journals, software, research in tools and technical assistance

5. SWOT ANALYSIS
5.1 STRENGTHS
The management of KTDMC is remarkable; the process from the very beginning to the end is highly organized and controlled. The workers are informed and taught about even minute specifications of the products. In case of any changes, the workers are made aware beforehand. Workers are the backbone of the industry, and KTDMC enjoys its full strength. The workers here are very skilled. They not only know there job, but also are self sufficient to handle the circumstances. Each and every person concerned with the job, has full knowledge of the work flow. From raw material selection to final product, every person knows the process. KTDMC is equipped with some of the latest and most efficient softwares of the times. These softwares are not only used by the designers, but KTDMC also provides certification courses to interested students. The most attractive and valuable aspect of KTDMC is that, along with an Industry it is an Institution also. It gives a large number of Diploma holders to the society. These diploma holders are not only profitable to the society but to KTDMC also. They can get job soon after their education is completed. And on the student level they can get the best practical exposure of their theoretical approach. KTDMC is not confined to their product only. They not only provide with software awareness programs but also have facilities for reverse engineering techniques.

5.2 WEAKNESSES
KTDMC lack with electrical power plant, in case of any failure of electrical power supply, the entire industry is worked over generators, that is not only costly but also decreases the efficiency of the work, due to down time. Even though the down time does not crosses seconds, but it effects to some extent.

GROUP # 5 2012
KTDMC needs to improve its marketing strategies. Being a worth knowing industry, it must be in collision with some kind of media and spread awareness about it. Apart from engineering approach, other facilities of KTDMC require attention of the management. These facilities include majorly the cafeteria, girls common room and last, but not the least; drinking water availability is not satisfactory. Another factor that falls in the weaknesses of KTDMC is the lack of shuttle service especially for people other than faculty. There is no proper service for the students and the internees or any other person that does not hold to be the staff of KTDMC.

5.3 OPPORTUNITIES
KTDMC should try to expand their business and make the consulted people aware of the capabilities of the company. Since it is the supplier of moulds of almost all types, it is big opportunity for the company if there is a shift in attention of customers towards more assembling of parts in Pakistan. The heat treatment facilities of the Industry are very efficient. KTDMC has a big opportunity to increase its turnover and profit by modifying and increasing the heat treatment setup of the industry.

5.4 THREATES
Since Pakistan is suffering from a big shortage of electrical power, in such a situation KTDMC, that does not own a plant for electrical power generation, is a big weakness. An industry having 95% of its work dependant on electrical power as source can undergo a huge loss, if not supplied with its requirements. Although KTDMC is located in the industrial area of the city, but along with this, the location is a bit dangerous in terms of political issues. Also the surrounding areas and the routes that link with KTDMC are usually in lime light for crimes.
