Mount Pleasant Community Church VBS

The kids participation in the Mount Pleasant Community Churchs Vacation Bible School was literally three months in the making. Thats how far out the MPCC began making its announcements that their Sonshine Farm themed VBS was coming up in June, and around the same time that I began to make arrangements for Kayla and Josh to attend with two of Kaylas friends from the neighborhood. Fast forward to June 18th, and there isnt much to report because my kids missed the first day of VBS because of orthodontist appointments. I dont know how, but they always seem to have this same kind of check-up around the same week as VBS. When my wife mentioned that she had made their next appointment, I asked her if there was anyway she could avoid scheduling them for the same week as VBS at the MPCC. So, well see how things will go next year. For Kayla, this was the last year that she will be attending Vacation Bible School because it is only offered to kids up until they graduate out of the sixth grade. Kayla will be a seventh grader next year (and, in fact, by next year she will be an eighth grader) so she would be attending as a helper. Josh has a few more years left. We invited Kaylas friends, Hannah and Hailey, to ride with us to the VBS and made arrangements with their mom to split up the driving responsibilities. I drove the kids on the third day of VBS, Wednesday, and was utterly amazed by the amount of work which had gone into decorating the church. The stage in the auditorium had been converted into a farm set complete with a barn, farmhouse, and outhouse. In the lobby area, the walls were lined with smaller buildings like shacks and fruit stands. Outside, in front of the church, there was an enormous cow by the road and police directing traffic. 1

The County Fair

On Friday evening I drove Josh, Kayla, and Kaylas friends to the MPCC for their County Fair. This was their way of wrapping up their week-long VBS. Outside, the kids took turns playing in the bounce house and competing in the games that had been set up. Hailey, 8, took a ride on the tractor pulled train of little cars. All four kids enjoyed riding in the facsimile of a horse-drawn carriage (which was really pulled by a lawn tractor, but still pretty cool).

At seven we went inside the auditorium where we watched a video recap of the weeks long activities, the kids sang some of the songs they had become familiar with, and church staff talked a little bit about their experience. Then, the event was finished. View photos on Facebook
