of course, twirling sparklers through the humid night air, having no pressures related to school, listening to the Brewers on the crackly, old boom box as we worked outside, cookouts with family and friends, and, if I was very lucky, making annual visits with my older siblings to Pierce Park for the annual Fourth of July festival and fireworks display to name a few. As I consider my list, I realize that none of these memories would exist if not for the freedom we have in this country. It was just announced that our death toll in Afghanistan has hit 2000 after more than 3900 days of involvement. Thats like the entire population of villages like Deerfield, Wautoma or Denmark being wiped out. The number of lives changed increases this figure exponentially. I so respect the military parents, too. The thought of that final goodbye sends shivers up my spine. What selflessness on the part of our armed forces and their families. It makes me wonder if I have that in me that willingness to sacrifice in such an enormous way. What does all of this have to do with a health and wellness magazine? Well, its the freedom, I think. The freedom we all have to make healthy choices in regard to our nutrition, fitness, personal growth, wellness, relaxation, and organic and green living. As usual, our authors have contributed numerous articles to help us on this journey. Isnt our freedom of speech a wonderful thing? Please read on! Also, remember that the Fourth of July is a wonderful time to contemplate, acknowledge and appreciate the freedoms we have in this great country. This month, lets increase our efforts to thank a veteran, to appreciate all of the healthy choices we have and to be a little more selfless.

Childhood memories of July are abundant for me

Super alkaline foods to include in a healthy diet ......................................................................

by marcia k. Simler, cNhP

pinach is rich in chlorophyll, a potent alkalizer and blood builder. It is also super high in vitamin K, vitamin A, manganese, folate, magnesium, iron, vitamin C, vitamin B2, calcium, potassium, vitamin E and dietary fiber eat it often! kale is another leafy green beauty that is widely known for its cancer-fighting, cholesterol-lowering, antioxidant-rich, detoxifying goodness. Like spinach it is massively high in vitamin K, vitamin A and vitamin C, and has a huge chlorophyll content. The reason it is so powerful in the fight against cancer is that kale contains at least four glucosinolates. Glucosinolates are really easily converted by the body into cancer-fighting compounds. Kale is also quite amazing for lowering cholesterol (steamed kale is more effective for this than raw). When you broil kale with butter and garlic, it makes great chips. cucumbers are 95% water, which makes it an incredibly hydrating food to consume. They also contain superb amounts of antioxidants, including the super-important lignans. These highly beneficial polyphenols have more commonly been associated with the cruciferous vegetables. Cucumbers contain lariciresinol, pinoresinol and secoisolariciresinol, three lignans that have a huge and very strong history of research in connection with reduced risk of cardiovascular disease as well as several types of cancer. They contain fair amounts of vitamins K and C, and slightly less of vitamin A and the B vitamins. Cucumbers also contain the following alkaline minerals: calcium, iron, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, selenium, copper, manganese, iron and zinc. broccoli is so good, if not eaten on a daily basis, it should be at least four times per week. Broccoli has been proven over and over again to be incredibly powerful in inhibiting cancers as well as supporting

the digestive system, the cardiovascular system, the detoxification processes in the body. It also benefits the skin, metabolism and immune system, acts as an anti-inflammatory and provides ample antioxidants. Eaten steamed or raw its very alkaline. avocados contain good fats (85% fat) that will not cause weight gain. Due to the high content of oleic acid (making it an omega-9 fat and very similar to olive oil), it can lower total cholesterol levels, raise levels of high-density lipoproteins (HDLs) and lower low-density lipoproteins (LDLs), also known as the bad cholesterol. Oleic acid also slows the development of heart disease and promotes the production of antioxidants. These beneficial omega oils also help speed the metabolism, actually leading to weight loss rather than gain. They are anti-inflammatory and anticancer, while also offering blood sugar and cardiovascular benefits. Containing key antioxidants such as alpha-carotene, betacarotene, lutein, selenium and more it is a powerful, alkaline, nutrient-dense super food. celery has a high water and vitamin C level. Its lesser-known nutrients are phthalides, which have been shown to lower cholesterol and coumarins, which have been shown to inhibit several cancers. The beauty of vitamin C-rich foods are that they help with the most common and most challenging health concerns

they support the immune system, inflammation (so helps with arthritis, osteoporosis, asthma, etc.), and cardiovascular health. If you are on a weight loss journey, youll also be happy to hear that this alkaline staple contains plenty of potassium and sodium, and so is a diuretic meaning it helps rid the body of excess fluids. bell peppers contain over 30 different members of the carotenoid nutrient family. The only other food that is close to this is the tomato. Bell peppers have shown up in research relating to decreasing the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, macular degeneration, cancer, vitamin C, vitamin A and vitamin E. In fact, bell peppers contain twice as much

vitamin C as oranges. Here are just SOME of the antioxidants bell pepper contains: flavonoids, luteolin, quercetin, hesperidin, carotenoids, alpha-carotene, betacarotene, cryptoxanthin, lutein, zeaxanthin, hydroxycinnamic acids, ferulic acid and cinnamic acid.

its more than human nature

What if animals share some of what makes us human? ..................................................................
by leora Weitzman, PhD, lmT

his past year, fulfilling a dream, Ive begun assisting companion animals who show signs of distress. Sometimes I offer energy or massage; sometimes I just listen. I dont know if I hear correctly or if they get my messages. What I do know is their behavior changes. Its as if they finally feel understood and can relax and move on. A rescue dog clung to her human, but would barely move, much less acknowledge my presence, voice or touch. It came to me that in her past it may have been dangerous to be noticed. I sat attentively with her for a long time, at one point suggesting in words

and images that being a dog can be fun. A week later, the woman called to say that the dog had become more alert, interactive and interested in her surroundings. A friend in Scotland e-mailed me photos of two cats thatd been in a new home six months and asked me to tune in. Neither of us knew if it would work. What came to me was Penelope, the name of Odysseus wife who waited for him at home, fending off suitors. Perhaps the cats were concerned about being disloyal to their former family? In my mind I offered them attention, plus an image of honoring their first relationship while creating a different space in their hearts for the new family. Both cats grew and remained calmer, and one began to show affection. Perhaps states of mind theirs and mine are a form of energy that can travel far and fast, like radio waves. My birds illustrate the power of listening very simply. They sometimes chirp shrilly for a good long time unless I come close, make myself comfortable and look in their eyes. Then they look back at me, very attentively, and quiet almost immediately. At one point we got into a troubling cycle: Id feel guilty when it was time to leave; theyd pick up on it and grow shrill; Id feel worse; and theyd get louder. When I lightened up and visualized our hearts connected across distance, the birds became quite matter of fact, giving me a little chirrup goodbye and a little chirrup hello. Ive met dogs and humans caught in a cycle of worrying about each other. The humans anxiety stokes the dogs anxiety; the dog gets

so anxious that he begins leaving messes around the house; and the human becomes even more anxious. Once everyone calms down, the dogs digestive symptoms clear up. For animals to reflect our moods is common. Even unconscious rules for life can rub off, like I dont deserve anything just for pleasure/just for me. One dog took four sessions to realize I was there for him and would massage him wherever he asked. His attitude came, not from how his human treated him, but from how she treated herself. Sometimes our animals take on our stresses from a desire to support us. Ive learned that its best to accept their support. When we try to protect them by shutting them out, we can trigger the worry cycle described above, for they sense our stresses and feel helpless. In contrast, knowing theyre included and making a difference gives them a measure of steadiness and security. And their support can truly lighten our load. The craving for attention and belonging. The ability and desire to lend support. Worry. Self-denial. Loyalty. Fun. Its more than human nature. Its the nature of many others with whom we share this Earth.

The health benefits from working at home .....................................................................

by amy kilburg

ave you ever thought of working from home and how it would benefit you, not only mentally and financially, but physically as well? Do you find yourself eating an unhealthy diet, rarely finding the time to work out and not having much of a social or family life at all? Often when you really look at the big picture, what looks like a rewarding, fulltime career may actually be more draining than you think. At the end of the week, you sit back and realize you have drained your gas tank, your body is dragging and your newly deposited paycheck was quickly applied to your car payment, your clothes bills, your lunches out every day and the ever-dreaded daycare bill. Too tired to cook, you pick up your dry cleaning and your children and head to the nearest drive-thru. TGIF! Does that sound like you? Maybe its time to take a second look at working from home, and once you finally find the right company, you will be amazed at how much it would positively impact your health and your life.
here Are SOMe greAT beNefiTS:

from home allows you save all of this time. It can help you get a bit more sleep in the morning and have more time for yourself in the evening for activities and leisure. Save money on transportation and clothing If you work from home, you may not even need a car at all. This can save you $300-$400 a month plus the costly gas, parking and insurance expenses. Arguably, the biggest money-saving benefit from working at home is the transportation

cost savings, with the clothing often not far behind no suits, no dry cleaning, etc. Expenses are deductible This can work for both employees or self-employed people. You may be able to deduct your Internet, phone, supplies and even the square footage that you use in your home as an office. This saves you some of the cost of those items previously all considered personal expenses.

Save time on commuting The average work commute is approximately 30-45 minutes. Multiply that by two to get back home at the end of the day, and you have spent close to 10% of your day just on travel alone. (Not to mention those snowy, icy days when it takes even longer!) Working

A natural and biologically appropriate diet for your pet ......................................................................

by michelle lonergan

eeding a healthy and safe diet to Fluffy or Fido has become a priority for many pet owners. Pet food recalls are too prevalent, and reading pet food labels can be confusing and deceiving. Regulations for the pet food manufacturing industry are very lack and poorly monitored. Therefore, as pet owners, we must take a proactive role in understanding pet food labels and our pets nutritional needs.

wheres the beef?

Cats are true carnivores and dogs are omnivores (although more accurately classified as opportunistic carnivores). A canines digestive system is built to thrive on an all meat and bone diet, but can survive on plant life, should their hunting skills fail them. In the wild, a canines primary source of carbohydrates (fruits, vegetables and grains) is from the stomach contents of their prey. However, the canines primary purpose of eating the stomach lining is for the high levels of digestive enzymes they need to absorb the nutrients in their food. Often, pet food manufacturers will use inexpensive substitutes for protein such as corn gluten, wheat gluten and soy. Dogs and cats cannot readily absorb protein from plant sources; therefore, the guaranteed analysis for protein levels becomes deceiving. The first ingredient listed on the label should be a meat source. Avoid meat by-products, as they are low-quality parts of the animal that are unsuitable for human consumption. They consist of feet, beaks, brains, intestines and some feathers.

in balance

Although commercially formulated dog and cat food is balanced with the recommended daily allowance set by USDA, it is necessary to add supplements based on your dogs specific needs. Supplements are essential for optimal health and vitality. Consider adding supplements based on age, weight, skin condition, training intensity, and digestive, urinary tract, joint and hip health.

its not what you eat its what you can absorb

glutton for gluten

Carbohydrates should be fed minimally. Avoid corn, wheat and soy as these are the top three allergens for dogs and cats. Look for whole grains such as barley, rice and oats (listed after a meat). Avoid grain fragments such as brewers rice, peanut hulls, rice hulls and oat hulls. These are the by-product left over after human food processing.

Natures Pathways | July 2012

The best nutrition you can provide to your pet is a fresh homemade diet consisting of raw meat, bones and vegetables. Feeding raw diets is more biologically appropriate for a dogs and cats short digestive system. Canine and feline digestive tracts are only a third of the length of ours and, therefore, require fresher food that can be quickly absorbed before it completes the digestion process (about 12 hours). Raw meat contains high levels of digestive enzymes that are needed for quick absorption. If you are up for the task of making your pet a homemade diet, ensure that the diet is balanced with the supplements your pet requires. Pre-balanced raw diets that are formulated with the daily allowance of vitamins, minerals and calcium are available at pet food specialty stores. These diets can be fed exclusively or can be added to a dry kibble. For cost consideration, feeding half raw with half kibble will still have a tremendous benefit to your pet than feeding kibble alone.
www.naturespathways.com

will it cost more?

HealtH Benefits from Working at Home continued from page 11

Feeding higher-quality food naturally should cost more. Fortunately, this isnt always the case. Many mass market pet foods that have the perception of being the healthiest foods on the market are not healthy foods at all. Many are owned by large conglomerates that spend tremendous amounts of money on marketing to create a healthy image, and have been very successful doing so. Find an alternative to a prescription diet. Unfortunately the majority is made from the large conglomerate companies and contains meat by-products, corn, soy, animal by-products, grain fragments, and chemical preservatives and has very little meat and sometimes none at all. Many healthy alternatives are available for obesity, allergies, sensitive stomachs, urinary health and early kidney disease. Consult with a holistic vet or pet nutritionist to help you tailor a homemade diet for your pets specific needs. Dont be fooled by the perceived image. Do your own research, or seek the advice of a pet nutritionist or holistic vet to help you tailor the best diet for your pet. In the end, your pet will live a longer, healthier life with fewer medical problems.

more flexible schedule When working from home, you are not under the same discipline as office workers, who need to be working from 9 to 5 every weekday. Chances are, your schedule at home will be much more flexible. If you have appointments or need to run errands, you dont need to take time off from work to do so. Its much easier to tie in your personal schedule with your work schedule when you work from home. less stress and anxiety Do you know people that have had to take extended time off from work due to stress-related illnesses, burnouts, etc? An office can bring about a lot of competition, gossip and backstabbing among co-workers. This type of environment takes its toll after a while both mentally and physically. Working from home will save you these headaches. increased productivity With all the time that you are saving from not having to commute to work and not socializing half the day with co-workers, most people find themselves being much more productive when working from home. As long as you remain motivated and driven, working from home can be much more effective for delivering results. more work-life balance A work-from-home position can have big payoffs when it comes to finding the eternal balance between having a career or simply bringing in extra money and nurturing a family. According to a recent survey conducted by Staples Advantage, more than 80 percent of employees say they now have a better work-life balance because they work from home. Women entrepreneurs are also making strides, at one and a half times the national rate. Technology has leveled the playing field for women finally and we are seeing women transform when they start working from home. Their lives suddenly become much more balanced. People who work from home are more satisfied with their sense of freedom and control. They structure their time so theyre able to work out regularly and take breaks throughout the day, and theyre more mindful of themselves and what they need to lead a healthy life.

expert answers to your health and wellness questions

Be realistic with fast food, eat healthy AND exercise, and weight lifting for women ......................................................................
by karmen Nenahlo

Question: I love fast food, but I am trying to lose weight and improve my health. Is it okay to eat fast food while on a diet program? answer: Yes, but as always, there are a few important points to keep in mind. We all know fast food isnt necessarily the healthiest meal in town, but we also know that setting realistic goals is an important component of any successful weight loss program. Therefore, it doesnt make sense to completely deprive yourself of fast food, especially if its appropriate for your specific situation. In other words, if youre crunched for time, fast food may be the only reasonable option. That said, if an occasional trip turns into four or five weekly trips, your weight loss efforts and health goals will likely suffer as a result. The key is to become a savvy shopper and watch out for calorie-laden foods with added sugars, sodium and fat. Look for a nutrition facts pamphlet in local restaurants, and educate yourself on their menus. If you make the effort, youll be able to find a sensible meal no matter where you go. Remember, balance, variety and moderation are the words to live by when it comes to food. If you apply these principles regularly, you wont have to sacrifice your health and wellness goals when eating out. Question: Ive heard some people say dieting just doesnt work, and that you should focus on exercise if you want to lose weight. Is this true? answer: No, this is simply not true. If youve ever looked at food labels and compared them to the calorie counters on your exercise equipment, youll likely come to some startling conclusions. It is much easier to decrease your calorie intake by 300-500 calories per day than it is to expend that many more calories each
14

day through exercise. Researchers have addressed this issue as well, and it is generally accepted that diet is the more important variable when it comes to weight loss. Exercise is still beneficial however, and actually plays a much more prominent role in weight maintenance. Heres the bottom line incorporate both healthy eating and exercise no matter where you are in the weight loss process. Question: My wife thinks shell get big and bulky if she starts lifting weights with me. How do I convince her otherwise? answer: This comes up all the time, and its one of the biggest myths out there. First of all, women simply dont have the proper hormonal balance to put on large amounts of muscle tissue. Secondly, even if they did have the right physiology, it would take some serious training to do it. Getting bigger muscles requires high-volume workouts (lots of sets and repetitions) and a pretty high intensity level as well. Picking up a few weights here and there isnt a recipe for building mass its what you do and how you do it that really makes the difference. Remind your wife that weight training programs can always be tailored to specific goals, so if she doesnt want to put on large amounts of muscle thats just fine. Generally speaking, a full-body circuit with higher repetition ranges a few days per week would work well if shes just looking to tone up or maintain her current level of muscle tissue. If she wants to get an individualized program based on her goals, look for a qualified personal trainer in your area.

Color therapy ......................................................................

by Susan Shinn

olor is everywhere in the world, and research consistently shows that without variety in color, people and animals become unbalanced and unhealthy, physically, mentally and emotionally. Like everything else, color is energy. Light, spread out into its various vibrational wavelengths, is seen as various colors, as when a rainbow is created by rain or a waterfall refracting sunlight. This is the visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. While every possible color is present in a rainbow, we generally group it into seven colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. When light falls on any object, its structure causes some of the energy vibrations, or light waves, to be absorbed and others to be reflected. Our eyes register the reflected wave vibrations as color. These vibrations are transmitted as electrical impulses via the optic nerve to the visual cortex for interpretation, and to the hypothalamus, the pituitary gland and the pineal gland. These glands control the autonomic nervous system, the endocrine system, and so our behavior, emotions, subtle energy systems and cellular level functions according to how much light and which wavelengths are received. Whether we are aware of it or not, color controls much of how we feel and behave, and can disturb or improve our health and well-being. Color and light have been part of traditional medicine for thousands of years in all parts of the world. However, modern medicine has long discounted any healing actions using these methods until relatively recently. Nowadays various wavelength lights and light emitting instruments are used increasingly in conventional treatments. Even more options are available for general use in the complementary energy medicine community, and many can be learned by anyone for individual use. Probably the most frequently used system for color designations is the chakra system (the seven spinal chakras aligning to the seven colors of the rainbow). Also used are numerology, kabala and astrology. The colors needed by an individual may be determined

by dousing with l-rods or pendulum, by energy testing, or an intuitive healer or aura seer.

Tension and trauma releasing exercises (Tre) ......................................................................

by Jacy Sundlie
RE is a revolutionary technique using six simple exercises to release stress and tension from the body that accumulate from every-day circumstances of life, from difficult situations, immediate or prolonged stressful situations or traumatic life experiences. TRE is being practiced by thousands of people around the world and is quickly becoming a popular way to release stress. TRE evokes a self-controlled muscular shaking process in the body called neurogenic muscle tremors. The uniqueness of this technique is that this shaking originates deep in the core of the body of the psoas muscles. These gentle tremors reverberate outwards along the spine, releasing tension from the sacrum to the cranium.

hopelessness. It can terrify us by unveiling the fragility, precariousness and vulnerability of our humanity. It tears at the very fabric of our identity and radically redefines our view of life. However, it is precisely because this experience has burned the bridges of our past ways of thinking that we are forced into a new way of being. The old ways of thinking and relating no longer work for us, and a new way of being emerges. We discover that on the other side of this frightening journey we have the potential for a new life of compassion, peace and wisdom. David Berceli, Ph.D., is an international expert in the areas of trauma intervention and conflict resolution. For the past 30 years he has provided trauma relief workshops and designed recovery programs for international organizations around the world. fireplace Q&A .....................................................................

by Ernest bingham

Question: Why does my fireplace cause my house to cool when I build a fire? answer: A typical fireplace needs a lot of airflow to properly draft. It is not uncommon to move between 200 to 400 cubic feet of air per minute out of the house when the fire is on. The colder air that is pushing into your home to fill the vacuum is cooling your area, not actually the fireplace. Open a window near the fireplace roughly two inches and enjoy. No more cold rooms. Question: Why do my fires always go out? answer: Without going into a lot of detail about the different pyrolization aspects of various fuels, wood in general burns from the top down. This old knowledge is buried deep in our lexicon. That is why you hear about someone that burned their house down not up. Someone else might burn their car up. Different fuel. Your fire goes out because air is getting under your fire. Ashes help a fire burn. Never clean the ash out from under your grate if you use one. Simple fix, works every time. Question: My fireplace is cold all the time, why? answer: If your fireplace is a pre-fab with bi-folding doors, you are stuck. It is engineered to self-cool whether you use it or not. Switch it out to a northern climate fireplace designed to heat totally different approach; no more cold. If your fireplace is masonry, it is actually the victim, not the culprit. You are losing house air either from ceiling vent fans, attic doors poorly sealed, pocket lights, whole house fans or any number of leaks. All of the leaks, however, that are affecting your fireplace are above the opening of the fireplace. Dont waste a minute on the first floor or the lower half of the house. If you stop upper air from getting out, lower air cant keep coming in. Think of a hot air balloon theres a big hole at the bottom, but the cold cant get in to lower the buoyancy unless they let some of the hot out. Your house works the same way. Cold air just pushes down your fireplace to make up the volume of the heated air that is pushing out. Address the subtle upper area leaks and you fix your fireplace. Life is simple. And it is damn sweet if you keep it simple.

The Intuitive Realtor & Energy Healer

Heidi Kelley uses energy work and the law of attraction to help clients buy, sell and heal
By Jackie Peters

HEIdI KEllEy, of VERona, and HER dog, BEEfy Boy, had quite a serendipitous meeting. Some would attribute the encounter to the law of attraction. A few years ago, at a time when her beloved, elderly pug was near death, Kelley had a conversation with a friend who worked at a nearby animal hospital about her impending loss. The friend, who was aware of Kelleys interest in French Bulldogs, happened to mention that they had a rescue dog that they had nursed back to health and that needed a home it was a French Bulldog. Considering that this breed costs upwards of $1000, Kelley never imagined that she would be able to get one of her own. Suddenly, at a time when she had to say goodbye to her long-time companion, Beefy needed a home. Of course, Kelley welcomed the dog into her family and continues to be amazed by Gods plan. Prior to meeting Beefy, I didnt understand how our thoughts could create things in our lives, how what we are thinking and feeling sends off a vibration to the universe and ultimately creates our life. It was a hard concept to grasp, but I continued to learn more about it and pay closer attention to what my thoughts were, how I projected myself and how I lived my life, Kelley explains. After this experience, Kelley says her life really started to change and she has manifested many things in her life due to the power of the law of attraction, which has been practiced for centuries. This universal law deals with energy vibrations and how they attract things with that same frequency the higher the vibration, the better the chances of attracting your needs and desires. In assisting clients, I clear energy blocks in the body to have the right vibration to attract what the person wants, says Kelley. OurUltimateReality.com points out that it can be difficult for those of us in the northern hemisphere to keep our vibrations high due to the dark, cold and wet days of winter. Another important aspect of the law of attraction is positive thinking, the practice of which is crucial. The way we think and the thoughts we hold most strongly in our minds have a most profound effect on our lives, the site explains. Thought is energy, too.

Understanding energy itself can be complicated (see sidebar). Imagine a gifted childs reaction to discovering his or her intuitive abilities getting physically touched by spirits and sensing the presence of their energy. While it may seem natural at first, societal norms can cause these individuals to push this ability back, deep inside themselves, as they grow into adulthood where it may stay forever, or not. From a very young age, Heidi Kelley had these intuitive abilities. It was a gift she shut down as she reached adolescence, which is common among the gifted. As Kelley looks back on her life today, she clearly sees how shutting down her abilities affected her over the years. When I didnt follow my intuition, I got in trouble, she reflects. The last straw was about three years ago, when Kelley found herself feeling off while waiting for her dental appointment to remove a bad tooth. She suppressed these uncomfortable feelings, even as they grew worse. In the end, the dentist pulled the wrong tooth! That was it! This is who I am! she declared; opening up about and accepting her abilities in just the last couple years. I decided who cares what people think! Coming out in this way, she became much more open to all of the possibilities. One night, the idea came to her of incorporating her gift into her career as a licensed realtor. The next morning she Googled it, but nothing felt right about her search results. After some soul searching and discovery, she patiently let her idea evolve. The result was The Intuitive Realtor/Healer. BRIngIng It to tHE REal EstatE IndustRy Since the dwellings and spaces we live and work in are filled with vibrating chi, we can be affected by the energetic residue from anyone or anything that has been there, as well as the energies of the earth. These energies are retained in the walls, floors, ceilings, furniture and other objects, states AncientInspirations.com. In order to create energetic balance in the space, it is best to clear any energy that might negatively affect the current occupants. This includes any spirit energies that may be present, the site goes on to say. Once the old energy is cleared out, vibrant, fresh energy can enter. This is the case whenever there are energetic disturbances in the Earth, as well. Occupants may feel lethargic, argumentative or emotionally drained. Pets are also affected. Kelley realized that the energies present in a dwelling can affect how quickly it sells, the number of interested buyers and ultimately the price for which it sells. She is able to use her gift to locate and clear disturbances, and raise, or bring in, new energy. Whatever my clients want (happiness, calmness, etc.), I put that energy in to attract it. Kelley explains. She goes on to say, I work together as a team with my clients, using our energy to manifest their dreams, whether they are buying or selling a home or needing to realign and raise the vibration in their body. All of Kelleys space clearing techniques are environmentally friendly. I dont bring anything into the environment that might possibly harm or cause an allergic reaction (e.g., traditional burning of sage), explains Kelley. Armed with her unique abilities, Kelley moved over to Keller Williams Realty, with Jessica Fox, team leader, welcoming her with open arms. And, her work opening herself up to spirits and energy around her has paid off for both her real estate clients and others in the community who seek out her services. Despite the poor housing market of late, Kelley continues to be successful. She even receives numerous inquiries from across the country, including Hollywood. HEIdIs HEalIng HousE Kelley, a certified advanced energy healer and certified soul coach, eventually felt called to utilize her abilities to help people heal. In fact, Beefy is a big part of that. A monthly advice column for your energy system ......................................................................

Everything in the universe contains energy, yet energy is something many of us dont understand. Every month Tina Bensman, a practicing clairvoyant and energy healer, is here to answer any questions you have about your energy system. Topics may include energy anatomy, dream analysis, chakra balancing, manifestation, life patterns, etc. The ideas written here do not replace medical attention. Always listen to your body, mind and intuition when receiving advice of any kind. Dear Tina, Every time I am surrounded by a lot of people I get really uncomfortable, anxious and panicky. I am a very outgoing person and I like being social, but in crowds, at large parties or in a crowded elevator I feel almost sick. What is going on with me energetically, if anything? People Panicker not so good. Well, why on earth is this a gift then, you may be asking? Hold your horses, Im getting to that! Imagine if you were able to have boundaries or filters surrounding you that allowed you to choose when, where and what type of energy you can feel. Imagine that you could use the energy you are feeling to gain knowledge about or for people. Imagine that this energy did not affect you. Instead, you could feel it to understand, and then let it go. Ah, I know Im feeling much better. When you have proper boundaries, your gift will not be attacked and instead you will gain control over your system. After you get a handle on your boundaries and feel comfortable, you would make a great therapist, social worker, HR rep, energy worker or simply a great friend!

Dear People Panicker, Yes, there is something going on with your energy, and although you may not think so now, its a gift! Let me explain. There are a number of intuitive gifts out there and most of us naturally use at least two of them regularly. There are feeling or kinesthetic gifts, visual gifts and verbal gifts. Each of these innate abilities helps us receive intuitive information. Im not talking only about seeing the future or hearing voices. Im talking about getting information about the world (and maybe beyond) that you cant experience with your five senses. A hunch, a bad vibe, your inner voice all of these are pieces of information that you dont actually see. The gift youre describing is a kinesthetic gift. When you are in a situation with large numbers of people, you are literally bombarded by all of their energy. You can feel it, the good and the

Tina, a Madison intuitive counselor and energy healer, is a lifelong student of the paranormal. She had her first clairvoyant vision at a young age and continues to see and hear energy. Tina is trained in clairvoyant reading and many modalities of energy healing, but through professional training she was disappointed in the methods many schools used to devalue everyones natural gifts. Tina started The Chakra House to teach how natural and easy it is to work with energy. She believes that everyone has natural psychic gifts and can access their abilities if they realized their potential.

Many methods are used to deliver the color energy, including colored light, candles, visualized color delivered thru the touch of a practitioner, color breathing, colored water, food, colored fabric or painted items, crystals and mandalas. Some practitioners of healing touch or intuitive healing also use color therapy, more rarely is it practiced independently in the U.S. For serious health or psychological conditions it is best used as a support therapy alongside conventional treatment by a physician. For simple emotional or physical issues, you can learn to work with some of these techniques. In fact, experts say all humans instinctively use color to some extent in their choices of surroundings and clothing. With some knowledge and practice anyone can learn to use this inborn talent more effectively, which will be the topic of next months article.

answer: This is one of those arcane questions cloaked in all kinds of misinformation. Ill simplify it for you. Bigger is not always better. Good quality is always better. Dont buy big box store junk stoves. The owners of some of these big box stores happen to be clients; get it? The square foot ratings on wood stoves are too subjective to be of much value. The BTU output ratings are a better indicator. Note that you will rarely get the stove up to its maximum output without scaring yourself. Heres the simple way to figure out the size stove you need. Take the cover off your furnace. It is generally a simple door that lifts up and pulls out. Inside, stuck to the sidewall, is a data tag. On that tag you will find a BTU rating. It may be anywhere from 65,000 to 150,000 or more. For a 100,000 BTU furnace, you would comparatively need a wood stove that puts out roughly a third of that or a 30,000 BTU output wood stove. Wood stoves heat directly, furnaces heat indirectly, so you will only need about a third of the BTUs to equal the furnace. It is not how big your fire is, it is how long you keep it burning. If you are too afraid or incompetent to check the tag on your furnace, do not buy a wood stove. This last line might offend you, but I might have saved your life. Sweeps Luck, Ernest

Make fruits fun for kids ........................................................

any parents can attest to the challenges in encouraging children to eat healthily, including incorporating plenty of fruits and vegetables into their daily diets. Children tend to become picky eaters for a number of reasons, according to the UCSF Benioff Childrens Hospital. Some children are just naturally more sensitive to taste, texture and smell of some foods. Others may learn their picky eating from parents, who pick and choose among their meals. Still other children learn to be selective through bribes and punishments around mealtime. However, there neednt been fussing and feuding over food choices particularly produce when parents employ a few creative ideas to entice children to dig into healthy foods.

1. Ask for your childs help:

Have your child ride along to the grocery store and take an active role in picking out healthy foods that he or she may be willing to try. Most nutrition experts find that if children take an interest in what they will be eating and are instrumental in making some choices, they will have a higher rate of eating those meals and foods. 2. Understand your childs eating habits: Some children will eat the crown of broccoli, but leave aside the stems. There are kids that will eat anything as long as its dunked in ketchup. They may enjoy pears as long as they are cut up into pieces with the skin removed. Pay attention to how

your child likes to eat the food and present it that way. It could mean fewer arguments at the dinner table. 3. Explore new flavor combinations: Oftentimes mixing certain flavor combinations can entice children to eat foods they may have never considered trying. Just think about the popularity of fruit juices mixed with vegetable pures. Some children have an inclination toward favorite flavors or just can benefit from a little variety, which can sometimes prove challenging when produce is out of season. Try Grapple brand apples, which combine the fresh, familiar flavor of Washington apples with the aroma and taste of concord grapes. Through a patented process, premium Washington State apples are infused with grape flavor to create a product that Crunches like an Apple, Tastes like a Grape. The health benefits of Grapples are just the same as other varieties of apples, and there are no artificial ingredients added or genetic altering. The process of making them does not add any extra sugar, calories, carbohydrates or anything else; in fact, the apple maintains its natural supply of vitamins, minerals, nutrients and fiber. Parents can rest assured that all ingredients have been approved by the USDA and the FDA. 4. Try creative presentations: Simply presenting the foods in a unique way can make them fun to eat. Try making fruit creations, such as snowmen out of stacked grapes, or orange and peach skewers. Children may be more inclined to drinking fruit smoothies mixed with yogurt or giving foods fun names, such as banana bombs, which are just chunks of banana rolled in honey and granola. All it may take is creating a fruit face on a plate with different fruits resembling features. Try kiwi eyes, apple slices for a mouth, a blueberry nose or whatever you come up with. 5. Be patient with new foods: It can take a few attempts and repeated exposure to get children to try new foods, says the Mayo Clinic. Serve new foods along with childrens favorite foods, like Grapple slices added to a peanut butter sandwich.

Too tired to sleep?

The story of chronic fatigue ................................................................
by John m. haase, Dc

f you are not sleeping well, chances are that your days are a tired blur. Its all you can do just to make it to dinner without taking a nap. Youre tired and need a real rest, but when your head hits the pillow, sleep is brief and the morning comes too fast. So what started this vicious cycle? How can we stop it and get some real rest? The primary reasons for insomnia are numerous, but for most of us, it starts with a period of stress. As we will see, stress triggers a cascade of hormones that ultimately, literally keep us awake. Factors like sickness and environmental stress, relationship issues, late nights and emotional discomfort all play a role. Even positive events, such as vacations or kids, can wear us out. We know that stress has many faces, but to the body, on a cellular level, its all the same. Whether its physical, mental or emotional stress, the adrenals pump out hormones that control the reaction and come to the rescue. Over and over again, they stimulate our body to get up and go! Adrenaline floods the body in various forms like epinephrine that gets our heart pumping, regulates energy, upgrades our immune response and keeps us going even when were dead tired. If the stress continues long enough, the adrenal glands eventually slow down and burn out, causing true adrenal fatigue. When adrenal burnout sets in, the production of cortisol slows down. Too bad, because cortisol is a very necessary hormone that fights inflammation caused by stress, and it
24
Natures Pathways | July 2012

also helps the adrenals provide stable energy levels. A clear example of inflammationrelated exhaustion is found with sufferers of acute fibromyalgia.
SO whAT dOeS ThiS hAve TO dO wiTh geTTiNg A gOOd NighTS SleeP?

If we have chronic fatigue, we dont produce as much cortisol during the day, so the body catches up by producing more at night. Okay, thats good, but cortisol keeps us awake! It normally jumps up to high levels in the morning, starts breaking down glucose for energy and gets us going. If it is high at night, your sleep is poor or you cant sleep at all. There it is: stress leads to adrenal exhaustion that depresses cortisol production, which recovers at rest but keeps you awake.
hOw dO yOU KNOw if yOU hAve AdreNAl bUrNOUT ANd whAT CAN yOU dO AbOUT iT?

Fortunately, it has become at lot easier to get answers. At clinics like ours, we test for adrenal/cortical burnout by sending out a sample for sophisticated lab testing. A typical adrenal stress panel will have the following combination of tests: cortisol levels; DHEA and insulin levels (which are both antagonists of cortisol); IgA levels to determine general immune response; and gluten antibody levels to test possible allergies to common grains like wheat, barley, rye and oats. Four different saliva samples are taken at different times of the day to account for the normal hormonal

cycles affecting cortisol. The collection procedure is fast and may be done at home. The results are often surprising. All of the information creates a profile of your adrenal/ stress response and can be graphed to read clearly. It then becomes possible to suggest natural methods to biochemically balance the factors that are draining the life out of you. Often, we help our patients by introducing plant-based, bio-identical cortisol in the day so the body doesnt need to boost it at night, resulting in you getting a good nights sleep. Then, it may be as simple as changing your stressors, like the late nights or long hours at work, until your adrenal glands recover to full function. Or, maybe you need to change your diet to reduce the inflammation-causing foods. On the flip side, if your young hormones are low, causing a lack of energy, those can be boosted as well. Often, when were burned out and general fatigue sets in, it seems like there are no good options. With our modern tools of analysis, there is hope. Adrenal fatigue and insomnia are often linked together. If you cant sleep and have been diagnosed with primary insomnia, help is on the way! 13 essential tips for surviving and enjoying! ... laboring outdoors: apparel, accessories and accoutrements .....................................................................
by Tina lupiezowiec
ear your socks and underwear inside out. This prevents the often bulky seams from digging into you when you are working. Note: If you wear loose, flowing fabric, the underwear tip is not necessary. Wear quality work boots. This protects your feet from injury, temperature and moisture. Steel-toed boots are great, but arent absolutely necessary unless heavy objects and/or large machinery is in the mix. Their downside: When it gets cold out, your tootsies can feel like theyre in a steel cooler. Wear snug-fitting leather gloves to protect your hands, especially when using machinery and handling spiked or thorny objects and vermin or pestilence. Though cotton gloves are useful, easy-to-wash and inexpensive, they are NOT advisable for safety! For light duty toil, cotton gloves are great. change your socks when they get wet. Moist conditions can result in foot fungus. Foot fungus = itchy, ouchy, misery. Feet sweat a lot! Figure 1/8 to 1/4 cup and you are near the mark. Keep antifungal cream, foot powder and a few changes of socks on hand. Powder helps too. bring a thermos or bottle of water. Water keeps you feeling fresh and helps keep the energy levels up. Note: It is OK to speak out loud to yourself, or to objects, plants, insects or pets, when you are toiling; however, when you hear a reply, drink a glass of water youre either dehydrated or very spiritually in tune.

Wear durable denim bib overalls. This keeps your hind-end and lower back from getting burned when you squat AND allows you to crawl about without hurting your knees; plus, overalls are comfortably airy and provide pockets aplenty. Note: If you choose to wear jeans and a shirt, make certain your back is covered when you squat. Wear a hat with a neck cord. Protect your ears and face with the brim of a lightweight hat that has a neck cord you can cinch snug. Hats without cords will fly off your head in the wind, unless theyre really heavy or aerodynamic. Note: The hat should have a comfortable band to absorb your sweat WITHOUT chafing your brow raw. bring a sweat towel. Sweat towels arent just for tennis players! It may seem clich, but wiping sweat off your forehead happens. If your forearm is filthy, well you get the point. keep properly fitting rain gear handy. Why wear rain boots if they have holes? Why wear a rain jacket that wont allow full movement of your arms, say, to reach for something, anything . ladies: Wear a cotton bra, a jogger bra or no bra (if you can get away with it). Sweating and nice bras dont mix, plus many under-wires and elastic bands can cause rashes. Powder helps. keep bug repellent close at hand. It is impossible to work efficiently and swat mosquitoes at the same time. When its time for a rest, do a

quick check for ticks everywhere! at the end of the day, dry your work boots out. A little powder and circulating air is all you really require. (The author of this list, Farmer Tina, lays her boots down in front of the supply registers or behind the dehumidifier to dry them out.)

Nettle (Urtica dioica) ...................................................................

by cheryl hosmer

ettle is a one to four foot tall perennial plant with heart-shaped, finely toothed leaves. The stem of the nettle plant is covered with stinging hairs that will irritate and burn your skin if you rub up against it or grab it. Dont let this deter you from using the leaf or root from this exceptional herb, nicknamed stinging nettle or common nettle. Nettle has a high mineral content, including iron, calcium and silica, and is a rich source of chlorophyll. Nettle also contains some

vitamins, such as A, C and K. The root contains some polysaccharides, lignans and fatty acids. Flogging with the stinging nettle stems is an old remedy for arthritis or rheumatism. Ouch! More recently, there is a study on GreenMedInfo.com indicating nettle extract to be of benefit for rheumatoid arthritis. The irritating property of the juice (formic acid) is destroyed by cooking or dehydrating nettle. There are a few antidotes to remember if you unfortunately get stung. The juice from the spine of the nettle leaf gives relief from its own sting, as does the dock plant, which usually grows nearby. A paste of baking soda

can be applied for sting relief too. Nettle has both astringent and diuretic properties making it useful for a variety of ailments. The root is used to stimulate the immune system and has been helpful with enlarged prostate problems. The freezedried leaf seems to be helpful alleviating allergies and hay fever. By freeze-drying the leaf, it retains histamine, serotonin and acetylcholine concentrated in the nettle hairs that is lost by air drying. Nettle tea or nettle tincture can be used to expel phlegm from the lungs or to replenish minerals to strengthen the bodys blood, bones, adrenals, prostate and kidneys. Nettle is best known as a spring tonic. With gloves on, the young tops can be gathered when six to eight inches tall. Rinse with water and put in a pan with a small amount of water and cook. The cooked nettle can then be chopped and used in a variety of recipes similar to spinach. Nettle tea can be made and used as a spring tonic to purify the blood and gain a boost of energy! Nettle can be air dried and powdered and then added to poultry feed to increase egg quality and production.

discovering your fitness motivators

Positive and negative motivation ............................................................
by laura Schuch, acSm-cPT

otivation means something different to everyone, especially when it comes to fitness. Motivation can lie dormant for ages and then one day assert itself, sending you on a journey to discover your own personal health and fitness. Some people seem to be inherently motivated to work out and eat well, always ready for a great workout and easily able to pass on birthday treats at the office. The goal of this article is to help you understand the concept of positive and negative motivation, and to provide you with some thinking points to help you understand your own motivations for taking steps to live a healthy lifestyle. Negative motivators are generally fueled by some unpleasant result or thing. For example, say your mother didnt take good care of herself. As a result, she got clogged arteries and had quadruple bypass surgery. She also developed type 2 diabetes, which she would have had a good chance of preventing with a daily exercise routine and better eating habits. Then, her back started giving her trouble because of all the extra weight she carried, so she was forced to have back surgery that severely restricted her ability to do any type of activity or exercise. This then caused her to become even more sedentary, thus perpetuating her health problems. You have watched this happen, all the while imploring her to take better care of herself so that her health did not decline further. At a certain point, you become so aware of the consequences of her actions and so afraid of ending up just like her, that you step up your efforts to exercise and to eat well because you want to
www.naturespathways.com

AVOID the unpleasant fate of ending up in such poor health like your mother. Positive motivators are GOOD things that you WANT, or things that you want to achieve. Here is an example: You really enjoy riding your bike outdoors. However, you dont seem to be able to ride as fast or as far as you would like to because you havent put too much effort into eating well or into exercise that complements the activity of bicycling. One day, you happen to see a flyer advertising a 20-mile bicycle race. Included in the registration fee is an optional training program to help you prepare for the ride. You get excited and sign up; knowing that your commitment to the race and the feeling of accomplishment you will get by completing it will motivate you to spend more time riding. Plus, you now have access to a group that will help you train for the race, and you will make new friends as you participate in the weekly rides. So, you sign up. You go through the training, and meet other people who are positively motivated by the race to fuel their bodies with healthy food and to prioritize their exercise time. You learn more about proper nutrition and complementary forms of exercise that improve your bicycling performance. Sooner than you thought, you notice significant improvement in your performance and in how you feel. Then, race day comes. You complete your 20 miles in less time than you thought possible and feel energized at the end. Its a big accomplishment, and when someone tells you about a 50-mile race coming up in a few months, you say yes perpetuating the cycle of healthy habits.

There is a clear difference between positive and negative motivators. What motivates you? There is no right answer, only the answer that is right for you. So ponder, and then get out there. Your good health is waiting!

food for thought and more ..........................................................

by Tony bednarowski

egetables, whole grains, good fats and quality lean protein are the staples in a healthy lifestyle. They will not only provide many great health benefits, but also improve your energy level and memory. Research indicates that certain nutrients actually stimulate brain function. B vitamins, especially B6, B12 and folic acid, protect neurons by breaking down homocysteine, a natural occurring amino acid that is toxic to nerve cells. They are also involved in making red blood cells, which carry oxygen. Foods like spinach and other dark leafy greens, broccoli, asparagus, strawberries, melons, black beans and other legumes, citrus fruits and soybeans are excellent choices. Antioxidants like vitamins C and E, and beta carotene fight free radicals, which are atoms formed when oxygen interacts with certain molecules creating an oxidative state. Free radicals are highly reactive and can damage cells, but antioxidants can interact with them safely and neutralize them. Antioxidants also improve the flow of oxygen through the body and brain. Foods like blueberries and other berries, sweet potatoes, red tomatoes, spinach,

broccoli, green tea, nuts and seeds, and citrus fruits are good options. Omega-3 fatty acids are concentrated in the brain and are associated with cognitive function (the brains functioning processes). They are our healthy fats that protect the body against inflammation and high cholesterol. Coldwater fish, such as salmon, herring, tuna, halibut and mackerel, walnuts and walnut oil, and flaxseed and flaxseed oil are excellent choices. Because older adults are more prone to B12 and folic acid deficiencies, a supplement may be an option for seniors. Those who do not like eating fish can take an omega-3 supplement or get it through plant sources. Nutrients work best when they are consumed in foods, so try your best to eat a broad range of colorful plant foods and choose fats that will help clear, not clog, your arteries.

Using crystal grids for spiritual evolution ......................................................................

by ashley leavy

rystal healing is a form of vibrational medicine in which subtle energy given off by a crystal is used to treat the body, mind, spirit and emotions. Crystals exhibit a type of orderly perfection, which helps to bring healing light and loving encouragement to all beings. The most important thing to keep in mind when beginning to use crystals for healing is that a crystals power is relatively inert until you intentionally direct its energy. It is not the crystal that possesses healing energy; it is your intent to heal that can manifest results. A simple way to utilize the healing power of stones is with the creation of a crystal grid. Grids consist of crystals placed in concise, geometric arrangements in order to affect the flow of energy for a specific purpose. The properties of the stones used, combined with their arrangement in a sacred geometric configuration, creates a unique energy frequency that can be used to enhance your intention and manifest your desired result.

stability, the four directions (the compass points) and harmony. five elements (earth, air, fire, water and spirit/ether).

A crystal grid may be as large or as small as you like. You can use any size of stones. You may use all one type of stone or many different types (depending on your purpose and intention). To activate and enhance the energy of your grid, you may use a clear quartz crystal laser wand to energetically link all crystals within the grid. When using a laser wand in this way, it becomes a Master crystal. To begin, draw three clockwise circles around the grid (if your intent is to add energy to the situation) or three counter-clockwise circles around the grid (if your intent is to remove energy from the situation). Visualize each of the stones being connected with rays of white light, linking the energy of each individual stone into one unit. Finally, point the termination of your laser wand toward the center

of the grid to infuse it with universal energy so that it may carry out its purpose (it is suggested that you hold your intention in your thoughts while infusing the grid with energy). If your grid is disturbed and crystals are moved out of alignment, the grid will need to be re-activated. Additionally, if you add stones to the grid or take stones away, the grid will need to be re-activated.

To create a crystal grid, you may follow these guidelines:

1. Clear yourself and your space of all negative or unwanted energy. 2. Ground and center yourself. 3. Create a purpose or intention for your grid (be as clear and

open the throat chakra to allow one to speak his or her inner truth. aqua aura quartz: Use at the 5th chakra (throat chakra) or 6th chakra (third eye chakra/brow chakra) for opening one to psychic insight, to strengthen the heart chakra energies, to connect the heart chakra with the throat chakra (allowing one to speak his or her inner truth), to help one to grow and evolve as a spiritual being, to connect one to his or her spirit guides, for astral travel and to facilitate shamanic journeying. Since this is a variety of quartz, the healing properties of quartz also apply. Sugilite (also known as sugelite, sugalite, lavulite, luvulite and royal azel): Use at the 7th chakra (crown chakra) to aid in opening one to divine energy, to enhance meditation, to promote astral travel, to stimulate lucid dreaming and dream healing, to aid one in learning and understanding shamanic practices and rituals, to communicate with ones ancestors or spirit guides, and to aid in working with the Violet Flame of St. Germaine. *Crystal healing is not meant to replace conventional medicine, but rather to complement and enhance it. The information within this guide is purely metaphysical in nature and is by no means medical. Crystal healing should only be used with the understanding that it is not an independent therapy, but one that is a part of a holistic healing approach.
Ashley Leavy has been drawn to work with crystals and stones since childhood. After years of self-study, she began earning a number of professional certifications in crystal healing. Ashley is a master of crystology and is certified and accredited in Melodys Level I & Level II Love is in the Earth Workshops. concise as possible); it may be helpful to write this message out on a small piece of paper and place it in the center of your grid. 4. Select the stones you will use to create your grid (you may do this intuitively, by dowsing with a pendulum, by scanning the energy with your hand, etc.); it is recommended that you select stones that have properties that correspond to your overall purpose. 5. Select a sacred geometric layout (you may do this intuitively, by dowsing with a pendulum, etc.); it is recommended that you select a geometric shape that corresponds with your overall purpose. 6. Place the stones (with intention) into the geometric arrangement you have chosen. 7. Activate your grid. 8. Devote time each day to connect to the energy and intention of your grid; you may choose to do this by meditating (within your grid if it is large or while gazing at it if it is small), by drawing energy into your body from the grid (by standing within it if it is large or by placing your hands over it if it is small), etc. This will make your grid a place of personal power, healing and recharging of your energy. Give thanks for the energy you receive from the grid and then re-ground and center yourself before returning to your day-to-day thoughts. Grids can be used for a variety of purposes, but as you begin to wake up to the spiritual energy of the fifth dimension, it may be helpful to create a crystal grid to help you through the evolution of your conscious awareness. By raising your energy vibration (through positive actions and thoughts/intentions) you are able to advance your state of awareness and move further down the path of spiritual awakening. As you evolve into higher states of consciousness, you may begin to shed the habits, behaviors and programs that are no longer needed by your higher self. This spiritual ascension is often accompanied by many uncomfortable ascension symptoms. These ascension symptoms can be disruptive to your physical, mental, emotional or spiritual state. This spiritual shedding can be challenging, but it is often a necessary part of spiritual evolution. Here is an example of a crystal grid that may be used as you begin to evolve spiritually and move toward the fifth dimension; this grid utilizes the following healing crystals: blue celestite (also known as blue celestine): Use at the 5th chakra (throat chakra) to enhance telepathy, to facilitate communication with ones spirit guides and totem animals, to stimulate the intuition, to enhance feelings of peace and compassion, to stimulate hope, to overcome loss and conquer grief, to enhance group communication and aid in working toward a common goal, and to
