The server role include the following Web Services role offers a full range of Web Services, Web server software Terminal Services is the role that enable a user to run applications on a server from a remote computer. Files Services role enable sharing files on a large scale through DFS Active Directory Domain Services rol for managing domain elements, such as user accounts. Network Policy and Access Services role is needed to enable the use of Virtual Private Networks. Print Services role is used for coordinating printing activities on a network. Application Server is for housing Web based applications.
There are other roles that are needed for large networks like that used at the Chicago and Toronto locations. DNS Server role to manage translating computer names and IP addresses. DCHP Server role For ip addressing to network clients. Active Directory Certificates Services role for establishing digital certificates. Active Directory Federation Services role for security tokens for Web based networks. Active Directory Rights Management role for information protection.
2-3 The system programmer can use Initail Configuration Task for the startup configuration tasks. one is to review the computer information in the Initial Configuration task window. Here is what you would see: Making sure the time zone is correct. Configuring a static IP address. Making the computer name setting it to work in a Domain or Wrokgroup.
The second thing is to update all the current updates by using the Initail Configuration Task window.
You can start adding roles at this point or you can do this a a later time by using the Server Manager. I would make sure that the firewall is turned on at this point as well.
2-4 1. To install a mass scale you would want to use the Windows Deployment Services. This could save time and money. This can also be productive if they decide to do this same service at the Chicago location also. Windows Deployment Services can also be used to install Windows Vista on all the 24 computer as well. The general steps for implementing the capability include the following: Make sure that the DNS, DCHP, and the Active Directory are already in use on the server using the network. Make sure that the Windows Deployment Services server uses NTFS. Install Windows Server 2008 on a server on the network. Install the Windows Deployment Services role. Configure Windows Deployment Services. Make sure ther is a PXE boot capability. Make sure to boot each server to be installed via PXE.
