COAL HANDLING PLANT

INTRODUCTION The requirement of coal annually about 3.2 million tons for the 85% Plant Load Factor (PLF) for phase -1 only. Average coal rate considered 0.70 Kg/KWH. Coal requirement per day for 600 MW Generation: 8500 ton. The coal is brought to site mainly by railway transport from Jhajra,Southsamla,Kumardih,Tara,Sonpurbazari, etc (Raniganj Belt.WB) and Chitra, Mugma (Non-Raniganj Belt.Jharkhand) open caste coal field of ECL at a distance of around 145 Km from site. From Jhanjra 1.20 million tons, from Sarpi 0.40 million tons and from Chitra 0.40 million tons expected to be supplied respectively. Prospect is there of 6.0 million tons in a year from Captive Mine at Punchwara. Railway track length for outside loop from Gosaigram to Poradanga link is 4.82 Km and total railway line length for inside loop is 16.20 Km. The loop[ track length for Manigram Railway Yard is 2.6Q Km, Power House line & Loco Maintenance line is 7.35 Km and Fuel oil lines is 6.25 Km respectively. At the entrance of the Coal Handling Plant one in motion Weigh Bridge is installed on the rail line. This can measure weight of both the laden and empty BOBR. By subtracting we can get the net weight of the coal in moving condition of the BOBR. At a time maximum 20 bottom discharge wagon(BOBR) can be unloaded in railway track hopper and total unloading time allotted for a Rake (58-BOBR) is 2:30 hrs (max.) without any demurrage. Track hopper capacity is about 4000 MT, length-210m, width11m. Size of incoming coal is less than 300 mm. Twin coal beds (each 460 m x 45 m) are made with Geo-textile bedding technology in the bottom base, then sand bed of 500 mm and finally bad coal bed of 300 mm height respectively. The total stock pile height above bad coal bed is designed for 10 m. Designed capacity of total crushed coal stock pile for Phase-1 (2 x300 MW) is for 21 days of around 1,89,158 MT in both stack yards and out of total capacity one-third crushed coal can be stacked inside the coal shed (114 m x 110 m) provided near the Drive House. The Stacker-cum-Reclaimer (S/R) unit is on reversible Conveyer-7 which is in between the both stack yard. That S/R unit can also be accommodated fully inside the coal shed. A practice to be adopted to keep the S/R unit inside the coal shed for betterment of the unit. The unloaded incoming coal (300 mm size) into the track hoppers is conveyed towards the Crusher House through belt conveyors and after crushing the coal (20 mm size) may be discharged to the coal stock pile or directly in the coal bunker through different conveyors. Flap gates are provided at different points to direct coal to desired conveyor train. In-line Magnetic Separator (ILMS) and Metal Detector (MD) are provided for extracting magnetic and non-magnetic hard materials respectively to protect the Crusher as well as the Coal Mill. The Belt Weighers (BW) is also provided at different

points to measure the total coal flow as well as to monitor the coal flow rate in the sample for Proximate Analysis or any other analysis if required. Mill Bunker storage capacity is around for 16 hrs n full load condition of the unit. Hi-Lo Level sensors are also provided for indicating the coal level in each bunker. A Programmable Logic Control (PLC) based Operating Station is provided for Coal Handling Plant at SgTPP.
