Course description 1. The aims of the biology curriculum for secondary school are to provide students with the knowledge and skills in science and technology and enable them to solve problems and make decisions in everyday life based on scientific attitudes and noble values. 2. Students who have followed the biology curriculum will have the foundation in biology to enable them to pursue formal and informal further education in science and technology. 3. The curriculum also aims to develop a concerned, dynamic and progressive society with a science and technology culture that values nature and works towards the preservation and conservation of the environment. Learning Objectives 1. Acquire knowledge in biology and technology in the context of natural phenomena and everyday life experiences. 2. Acquire scientific and thinking skills. 3. Apply knowledge and skills in a creative and critical manner to solve problems and make decisions on biology-related issues. 4. Apply knowledge of biology to improve ones health and wellbeing, and face challenges in the scientific and technological world and be willing to contribute towards the development of science and technology. 5. Practise and internalise scientific attitudes and good moral values. 6. Realise the importance of inter-dependence among living things and the management of nature for survival of mankind. MISSED EXAMS AND LATE ASSIGNMENTS: Students are expected to take exams and submit assignments as scheduled. Make-up exams and submission of late assignments will only be permitted under extenuating circumstances. Students are expected to notify the instructor in advance of a potential conflict. Make-up exams/ new due dates will be scheduled immediately. Failure to notify the instructor in advance will result in a 5% loss of the associated point value of the exam/assignment each day it is late. ACADEMIC DISHONESTY 1. Academic dishonesty includes such things as cheating, inventing false information or citations, plagiarism, and helping someone else commit an act of academic dishonesty. 2. Cheating is the act of obtaining or attempting to obtain credit for work by the use of any dishonest, fraudulent, or unauthorized means. 3. Plagiarism is the act of taking the specific substance of another and offering it as ones own without giving credit to the source. CLASSROOM RULES OF CONDUCT 1. Respect teacher, member of the floor, class and also to yourself 2. No food and drinks are allowed in lab 3. No inappropriate topics 4. No offensive language 5.
