Vitamin B Complex Other common name(s): B vitamins; vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, and

B12 Scientific/medical name(s): thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), pyridoxine (B6), biotin (B7), folic acid or folate (B9), cobalamin (B12) Description B vitamins are essential for growth, development, and a variety of other bodily functions. They play a major role in the activities of enzymes, proteins that regulate chemical reactions in the body, which are important in turning food into energy and other needed substances. B vitamins are found in plant and animal food sources. Salbutamol, Ventolin, Ventolin Rotocaps, Volmax Action: Synthetic sympathomimetic amine and moderately selective beta 2-adrenergic agonist with comparatively long action. Acts more prominently on beta2 receptors (particularly smooth muscles of bronchi, uterus, and vascular supply to skeletal muscles) than on beta1 (heart) receptors. Minimal or no effect on alpha-adrenergic receptors. Inhibits histamine release by mast cells. Classifications: autonomic nervous system agent; beta-adrenergic agonist (sympathomimetic); bronchodilator (respiratory smooth muscle relaxant) Indication: To relieve bronchospasm associated with acute or chronic asthma, bronchitis, or other reversible obstructive airway diseases. Also used to prevent exercise-induced bronchospasm. Generic Name: Albuterol Brand Name: Salbutamol, Proventil, Ventolin, Accuneb, airet, Novo-Salbutamol, Proventil HFA, Gen-salbutamol, Ventodisk, Ventolin HFA, Volmax, VoSpira ER Classification: Bronchodilator (therapeutic); adrenergics (pharmacologic) Indications 1. To control and prevent reversible airway obstruction caused by asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD) 2. Quick relief for bronchospasm 3. For the prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm 4. Long-term control agent for patients with chronic or persistent bronchospasm Mechanism of Action It relieves nasal congestion and reversible bronchospasm by relaxing the smooth muscles of the bronchioles. The relief from nasal congestion and bronchospasm is made possible by the following mechanism that takes place when Salbutamol is administered. 1. First, it binds to the beta2-adrenergic receptors in the airway of the smooth muscle which then leads to the activation of the adenyl cyclase and increased levels of cyclic- 35-adenosine monophosphate (cAMP). 2. When cAMP increases, kinases are activated. 3. Kinases inhibit the phosphorylation of myosin and decrease intracellular calcium. 4. Decreased in intracellular calcium will result to the relaxation of the smooth muscle airways. Contraindications 1. Hypersensitivity to adrenergic amines 2. Hypersensitivity to fluorocarbons Precaution 1. Cardiac disease including coronary insufficiency, a history of stroke, coronary artery diseaseand cardiac arrhythmias 2. Hypertension 3. Hyperthyroidism 4. Diabetes 5. Glaucoma 6. Geriatric patients older individuals are at higher risk for adverse reactions and may require lower dosage 7. Pregnancy especially near term 8. Lactation 9. Children less than 2 years of age because safety of its use has not been established 10. Excess inhaler use which may lead to tolerance and paradoxical bronchospasm

Side Effects and Adverse Reactions 1. Nervousness 2. Restlessness 3. Tremor 4. Headache 5. Insomnia 6. Chest pain 7. Palpitations 8. Angina 9. Arrhythmias 10. Hypertension 11. Nausea and vomiting 12. Hyperglycemia 13. Hypokalemia Nursing Interventions 1. Assess lung sounds, PR and BP before drug administration and during peak of medication. 2. Observe fore paradoxical spasm and withhold medication and notify physician if condition occurs. 3. Administer PO medications with meals to minimize gastric irritation. 4. Extended-release tablet should be swallowed-whole. It should not be crushed or chewed. 5. If administering medication through inhalation, allow at least 1 minute between inhalation of aerosol medication. 6. Advise the patient to rinse mouth with water after each inhalation to minimize dry mouth. 7. Inform the patient that Albuterol may cause an unusual or bad taste.

Co-amoxiclav is the British Approved Name, in the British Pharmacopoeia, for the combination antibiotic containing Amoxicillin (as either trihydate or the sodium salt) and Clavulanic acid (as Potassium clavulanate). This name, unlike co-trimoxazole, has not been widely adopted internationally and the combination product is usually referred to by various names such as amoxicillin with clavulanic acid or amoxicillin+clavulanate or simply by the trade name. Co-amoxiclav is currently marketed under various trade names includingAugmentin (GlaxoSmithKline), and for veterinary use as Clavamox (Pfizer) and Clavaseptin (Vtoquinol). Side effects diarrhoea, vomiting :allergic reaction jaundice, fever or severe diarrhoea, contact a doctor immediately. Indications General :Co-amoxiclav is indicated in the treatment of infections caused by susceptible strains. ENERIC NAME: celecoxib BRAND NAME: Celebrex DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Celecoxib is a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug (NSAID) that is used to treat arthritis, pain, menstrual cramps, and colonic polyps. Prostaglandins are chemicals that are important contributors to the inflammation of arthritis that causes pain, fever, swelling and tenderness. Celecoxib blocks the enzyme that makes prostaglandins (cyclooxygenase 2), resulting in lower concentrations of prostaglandins. As a consequence, inflammation and its accompanying pain, fever, swelling and tenderness are reduced. Celecoxib differs from other NSAIDs in that it causes less inflammation and ulceration of the stomach and intestine (at least with short-term use) and does not interfere with the clotting of blood. NSAIDs have been found to prevent the formation and reduce the size of polyps in patients with the genetic disease, familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP). In FAP, patients develop large numbers of polyps in their colons, and the polyps invariably become malignant. The only cure of FAP is removal of the entire colon. Celecoxib is approved as an adjunctive (secondary) treatment among patients with FAP. The cramping and pain during menstrual periods is due to prostaglandins, and blocking the production of prostaglandins with celecoxib reduces the cramps and pain.

Other side effects include fainting, kidney failure, heart failure, aggravation of hypertension, chest pain, ringing in the ears, deafness, stomach and intestinal ulcers, bleeding, blurred vision, anxiety, photosensitivity, weight gain, water retention, flulike symptoms, drowsiness and weakness. Calmoseptine External analgesic / Anti-itchSkin protectant / Anorectal astringent Uses: A moisture barrier that prevents and helps heal skin irritation from: urine, diarrhea, perspiration, fistula damage, feeding tube site leakage, wound drainage (peri-wound skin), minor burns, cuts, scrapes, itching Warnings: For external use only. Not for deep or puncture wounds. Avoid contact with eyes. Inactive ingredients: Calamine, chlorothymol, glycerin, lanolin, phenol, sodium bicarbonate, and thymol in a suitable ointment base A side effect is usually regarded as an undesirable secondary effect which occurs in addition to the desired therapeutic effect of a drug or medication. Side effects may vary for each individual depending on the person's disease state, age, weight, gender, ethnicity and general health. Side effects can occur when commencing, decreasing/increasing dosages, or ending a drug or medication regimen. Side effects may also lead to non-compliance with prescribed treatment. When side effects of a drug or medication are severe, the dosage may be adjusted or a second medication may be prescribed. Lifestyle or dietary changes may also help to minimize side effects.
