Red Chillies Entertainments headed by Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan is a company that is surging ahead in the

global entertainment industry Its latest upcoming venture is the highly awaited and Bollywood's so far most expensive and very first futuristic Superhero movie, 'Ra.one' starring Shah Rukh Khan, Arjun Rampal and Kareena Kapoor. Red Chillies earlier endeavors includes, My Name is Khan (2010) which is a co-production of Red Chillies and Dharma Production starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, the movie was a blockbuster hit of 2010. Billu (2009), starring Irrfan Khan and Lara Dutta created a buzz, Om Shanti Om (2007) which set the box-office on fire and Paheli (2005) India's official entry to the Oscars. Founded in 2002 as a film production house, Red Chillies Entertainments has branched itself into other spheres of production, starting from setting up a path breaking Special Effects studio, VFX, which brought Hollywood's slick sophistication to Indian cinema. Don - The Chase Begins Again, won European accolades for Best Special Effects in 2006. And a year later, the Star Screen Awards singled out Om Shanti Om, for best visual effects (2007). The film also made a clean sweep winning, all the special effects awards for the year 2007. In 2008, VFX followed up on its winning streak by clutching all the biggies to expand it's awards arsenal with the Filmfare, Zee Lux, IIFA (Bangkok), Screen, Indy's & Apsara Producer's Guild Awards. The company has a TVC division churning out ad commercials for some major global brands like Pepsi, Nokia, Hyundai, ITC & Emami to name a few. Red Chillies has now spread its wings to the television industry with the successful shows like Ishaan, Tere mere Beach mein, Ghar Ki Baat Hai, First Ladies with Abu Sandeep, and telefilm like 'Like I love you' and 'Love ho jaane de' With global entertainment conglomerates evincing keen interest, Red Chillies Entertainment is all set to blitzkrieg the world of entertainment.

Mumbai August 26 2009 In what can be easily termed as musical history, Seagram's Royal Stag has created a special video 'Make it Large- A tribute to Michael Jackson', to be released on music channels across India on the 29th of August to celebrate the pop legends 51st birthday. A celebration could not be larger than this one where the best of Indian musicians come together to pay tribute to the genius that is Michael Jackson. Written by Vishal, composed by Vishal and Shekhar, produced by Red Chillies Idiot Box, and directed by Samar Khan 'Make it Large' features Shankar, Shaan, KK, Shreya Ghoshal and Michaels closest dance likeness in India-Prabhudeva. The video also features testimonials on Michael Jackson from Bollywood's hottest talent; Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, Anoushka Sharma, Shahid Kapur, and cricket's best-Yuvraj Singh. Commenting on the initiative, Bikram Basu, Vice President-Marketing, Pernod Ricard India said, "Michael Jackson is an icon, an undying creative genius. He uniquely stands for Royal Stag's brand philosophy to aspire and 'Make it Large'. This tribute song and video to Michael Jackson is really special." Composer Vishal said, "The idea was derived with just from the thought of Michael. It's just awesome to see all of us come together out of love for one person and his music. It's magic!" Composer Shekhar said, "A tribute to MJ is something any musician would give his right hand to do." Director Samar Khan said, "MJ's life and death have made an indelible impression on my life and suffice it to say that I had to be part of that history. The opportunity to direct this video was one I could not pass up and I am certain that it will leave a lasting impression on audiences across India"

History

In 2004, choreographer Farah Khan, a good friend of Shahrukh, decided to direct a film with him. Shahrukh then conceived and created Red Chillies Entertainment with his wife Gauri Khan, who became producer of the first production Main Hoon Na in which Khan starred in as well. The movie did well at the box office becoming the second highest grossing film of the year. Khan also starred in the company's 2nd release, the 2005 movie Paheli, belonging to the genre of indian Parallel Cinema, the film was well received by critics and was selected as India's official entry to the 79th Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category, but was a commercial failure.

The third film produced by the company was Farah Khan's mega-budget Om Shanti Om, which was released in November 2007. The film emerged as India's highest grossing production ever up to that point. The 2009 film Billu starring Irrfan Khan and Lara Dutt was the company's next release, the film opened to good reviews, but was a box office failure. The latest film produced by the production company is Roshan Abbas's Always Kabhi Kabhi, the film was panned by critics and was a box office disaster.

Its upcoming venture include Bollywood's so far most expensive and very first Sci-fi movie, 'Ra.one' starring ShahRukh Khan, Arjun Rampal and Kareena Kapoor[2]. Karan Johar's next directorial venture, student of the year, which will be co-produced by Johar's production company.

The company also has a visual effects studio known as Red Chillies VFX. Apart from home productions, the VFX team had been involved with many major movies like Chak De India, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Drona, Om Shanti Om, Dostana, and Kurbaan.[3]

In 2008, Red Chillies introduced and bought Kolkata Knight Riders Cricket franchise in BCCI new venture Indian Premier League. They have also ventured into television content production and their show 'The first ladies' was aired on NDTV Good times. They are also responsible for the conception of the Indian version of Coke Studio[4], a popular Music TV Show in Pakistan.

In August 2011, it was announced that the production company is launching a celebrity based chat show with actress Preity Zinta as host. Shot at her own penthouse in Mumbai the show titled Up Close & Personal with PZ stated airing on September 2011.[5] The company also launched a reality TV show based on the lives of Bollywood celebrities, called Live My Life.
