up the hit legal drama for another season. Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Breckin Meyer will return as the titular characters to cause more waves at their button-down agency. No word yet on many episodes will be in the new season or when it will premiere, but we'll assume it's summer 2012. The show also stars Malcolm McDowell, Dana Davis, Kumail Nanjiani, Reed Diamond and Garcelle Beauvais. Q: While I am excited to see that Maria Bello is starring in the new, American version of "Prime Suspect," it got me to thinking about the original British series. Can you tell me where I can see those episodes? - Kathy D., via e-mail A: You're in luck! On Aug. 23, Acorn Media will be releasing the first series of the police-procedural television drama (go to acornonline.com for more details). This series -- which aired in the 1990s and 2000s on Britain's ITV network, for a total of 14 episodes -garnered rave reviews and numerous accolades. Aside from starring the fabulous Helen Mirren, it also had big-name guest stars like Ralph Fiennes, Tom Wilkinson and David Thewlis. Director Tom Hooper, who won the Academy Award last year for "The King's Speech," also directed series six. Those are some mighty big shoes to fill for NBC -- which will air the U.S. version beginning Sept. 22-- but I have my fingers crossed for Maria Bello and crew to make "Prime Suspect" their own. Q: I am a huge fan of "White Collar" and have season one on DVD. When will seasons two and three be out? -- Rita S., Port Charlotte, Fla. A: The USA network show about a con man working with an FBI agent to catch criminals (as part of his work-release program from prison) recently returned for its third season in June, so you'll have to wait a bit for those DVDs. However, you can now find season two at your favorite local and online retailers. The four-disc set includes all 16 episodes, deleted scenes, a gag reel, featurettes and commentaries for episodes nine, 12 and 16. Q: I am so glad that "The Glades" has returned, and I was wondering what else has series star Matt Passmore been in? He is my favorite actor on television right now. -- L.S., Granbury, Texas A: Prior to landing the lead role of Jim Longworth on A&E's "The Glades," Matt Passmore -- who was born in Brisbane, Australia, on Christmas Eve 1972 -- worked on several TV shows and movies. You might have seen him in: "McLeod's Daughter," "Son of the Mask," "Last Man Standing" or "The Cut." (c) 2011 King Features Synd., Inc.

PUPPY TREATS As the owners of a seven-month-old puppy, we are still very much in training mode at home. But instead of training our pup with treats, someone at the local pet store suggested we just use a different flavor of her dog food. Basically anything thats different from her regular food is a treat, and we just use one tiny little pellet at a time to train her. We bought a five-pound bag of a different flavor dog food with a coupon for $9, and by using it as treats only, it will last us a very long time. We also dont have to worry about upsetting her stomach since its the same maker and same base formula, just a different flavor. We have no expensive treats to buy, and our dog stays healthy and motivated. -Ann F. CELEBRITY EXTRA Q: I am really digging the new TNT show, "Franklin and Bash." Do you know if it'll be back for a second season? -- Hank F., Baltimore A: Well, Hank, if you've got a hankering for a second season of "Franklin and Bash," then I've got good news for you: TNT has picked

THE DAILY DEALER There are an abundance of sites online that will send you the deal of the day for your city or online. Groupon, LivingSocial, Urban Dealight are just a few. Ive joined every available one for my area. The deals Ive scored have included a graduation portrait package for $45 (with CD), mini golf for six with free sodas and necklaces for $24, entrance to a popular arcade/ride place for two for $24 (unlimited rides), and half-price (or less!) meals at restaurants, sports bars, and grills. It takes just a second to delete the emails if youre not interested. And living in a large urban area, I need to check out where the deal is located to be sure its within my driving area. So far this summer, Ive managed to keep my kids entertained and my budget intact by trying out these deals! -Deb C.

JILL JACKSON'S HOLLYWOOD HOLLYWOOD -- I walked down the hill from my home to find a swarm of press. Prince Frederic Von Anhalt, husband of Zsa Zsa Gabor, the star of such classic films as John Huston's "Moulin Rouge" ('52), "Lili" ('53) and the camp classic sci-fi film "The Queen of Outer Space" ('58), invited the press to see his anniversary gift for Zsa Zsa. Prince Frederic was best friends with Princess Marie-Auguste of Anhalt's only son, who was killed in a car crash. She was so grief stricken that she asked Frederic if she could adopt him, and she gave him the name Prince Frederic von Anhalt, Duke of Saxony. Zsa Zsa married Prince Frederic 25 years ago. It was her ninth marriage (though one was annulled). "Silver is traditional for the 25th," Prince explained, "but my wife already has everything she wants. I decided to give her the biggest greeting card in the world, right on the Sunset Strip, in Hollywood." Diamonds are forever, but this billboard will appear for only one month. The Prince added, "I knew that Zsa Zsa [who had a leg amputated recently] would enjoy being in the spotlight again. When she saw the billboard on the evening news, it brought a huge smile to her face, and that's why I did it!" The Prince will be seen in Ben Affleck's new film "Argo," which, coincidentally, is shooting in the Von Anhalt/ Gabor house. He's also planned a big star-studded gala on Aug. 14 to celebrate their anniversary. The Prince added, "The billboard cost only $68,000, my life with Zsa Zsa is priceless!" Robert Redford is not slowing down anytime soon. His next movie, "The Company You Keep," starts filming in Vancouver next month, and he'll not only star but direct as well. Redford plays a former militant, living under an assumed identity for 30 years, whose cover is blown by a young reporter, played by Shai LaBeouf. Nick Nolte has just signed on as well. Among Redford's future films are "A Walk In the Woods," originally intended to reteam him with the late Paul Newman, and an untitled biopic of baseball legend Jackie Robinson. First "Spider-Man" moved on without Tobey Maguire (now 36 years old), with the younger, newer, less-expensive Andrew Garfield (28 on Aug. 20) by making the film a prequel. Now we'll have the next film in "The Bourne" saga without Matt Damon. In fact, Jason Bourne will be replaced by another assassin who trained in the same program, being played by Jeremy Renner. Trying to keep the "Bourne" flavor going, they've cast both Joan Allen and Albert Finney, who were in previous "Bourne" films. Maybe it's just me, but doing a "Bourne" film without Matt Damon is like making an omelet without eggs! (c) 2011 King Features Synd., Inc.

Do you ever just keep talking? A woman is reading the local newspaper while her husband reads a magazine. All of a sudden, she bursts out laughing. Listen to this, she says. Heres a classified ad where a guy is offering to swap his wife for a season ticket to the stadium. Uh-hum, her husband says, not looking up from his magazine. She decides to tease him a little and says, Honey, would you swap me for a season ticket? Absolutely not! he says. How sweet, she says, I knew you wouldnt. Of course not, he says never looking up. The seasons more than half over. Do you ever keep talking like this guy when you should have stopped? I know its hard to know when to say what sometimes. Heres a good rule of thumb though, particularly for husbands like this one: less is more. The less you say, the more you get it right. Still not sure? Then keep quiet until you Listen to Life today. CELEBRITY EXTRA By Cindy Elavsky PHOTO: Poppy Montgomery Q: I was a huge fan of CBS Without a Trace, so I was thrilled to see that Poppy Montgomery is coming back to TV this fall, starring in Unforgettable. What made her decide to return to television? -- Darcy R., via e-mail A: I spoke with Poppy recently, and I asked her just that, and it basically boiled down to many elements coming together at the perfect time. Poppy told me: The script was amazing. Im obsessed with Niels (Arden Oplav), the director, and had been long before I ever met him. Ive seen The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo maybe 30 times. Ive worked with CBS since I was a baby, she said. So its like coming home again. Its such a great place for me to work, and I feel like they support their shows so wholly and completely. Everything about it lined up for me. And I want to see a strong female character leading an exciting show. Speaking of strong female characters, Poppy portrays Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling in Lifetimes original movie, Magic Beyond Words: The J.K. Rowling Story, which airs Monday, July 18. Of playing the famously reclusive author, Poppy told me: When they sent me the script I definitely had reservations, because I knew that J.K. Rowling wasnt collaborating on it. But when I read the script, I found that it was a beautiful, inspiring story and a love letter to an extraordinary woman. *** Q: What has my favorite Friend, Lisa Kudrow, been up to lately? -Tina D., Seattle A: Since Friends ended in 2004, Lisa -- who turns 48 on July 30 -- has starred in Happy Endings, P.S. I Love You, Bandslam and Easy A. She currently stars in Web Therapy, which initially was a Web-

exclusive series where Lisa portrays a psychiatrist who dispenses not-sogreat advice to an array of eclectic clients. The show was picked up by Showtime, and it premieres Tuesday, July 19, at 11 p.m. Web Therapy co-stars Victor Garber and Lily Tomlin, and guest stars include Courteney Cox, Meryl Streep, Alan Cumming, Selma Blair, Jane Lynch, Molly Shannon and many more. *** Q: While I was on vacation last month, I got totally hooked on Storage Wars on A&E. When does a new season premiere? -- Doug F., via e-mail A: Storage Wars -- which follows a group of auction hunters who bid on forfeited storage lockers in the hopes of finding hidden treasures that they can sell for profit -- makes its second-season premiere on Wednesday night, July 20. *** Q: Is it true that actor Sean Bean was stabbed in a bar fight in London? Is he OK? -- Emily H. in Pennsylvania A: The Game of Thrones star was superficially cut in the arm with broken glass after chasing down a rude bar-goer who made lewd comments to his girlfriend. After the incident, Sean returned to the bar, used its first-aid kit on his arm and had another drink. *** Write to Cindy at King Features Weekly Service, P.O. FACIAL TONERS The purpose of a facial toner is to establish the correct pH to the skin. Why allow most of your toner to go into a cotton ball or other applicator and then into the wastebasket? Your toner will last four times longer or more by shaking a small amount (two or three shakes from the bottle with a tiny opening) into the palm of your hand and applying it with the fingertips of your other hand. Assuming that you just washed your face, your hands should be clean. Then finish off the remainder by rubbing both hands over missed areas of the face. This is so much more refreshing than a cotton ball, too! -Melanie F. PREVENTING FLEAS We used to have a terrible time with fleas and ticks, but we have overcome the problem. The most effective solution we found was twofold. The better quality of dog food our dogs eat, the fewer problems they have with fleas. Also, try brewers yeast and garlic tablets. If you live anywhere near a feed store, I would recommend buying from them as their prices will generally be better than a pet store. Also, fleas do not like herbs like pennyroyal, lavender, mint, rosemary, fennel, and rue. If you could fit such plants in your yard, especially near where your animals hang out, it may repel fleas. Also, a mild shampoo with a few drops of eucalyptus or citrus oil and followed up by a pennyroyal rinse (steep leaves in boiling water and let the water cool) can rid your animal of fleas. Soap and water will kill fleas in a few minutes, so you dont have to buy special flea shampoo. Follow up with regular combings using a flea comb (dip the flea comb in soapy water after each pass of the coat). -Leslie CHASING OPOSSUMS Ive discovered an effective opossum remover. We found a mother and about four babies nested in our garage right next to our garden. I called animal control and found out it is illegal to move your pest to anothers property. As I was sputtering about the problem, the officer told me to get a loud radio, tune into a heavy metal station, turn it on to blasting loud, and close the door. Then he told me to check back in an hour. The opossum was gone! Just like the officer said, she had taken the babies and found a nicer place. Wouldnt you? -Fran

SEEDLING STARTERS I buy juice in the large cans. Then I cut out the top and bottom and save them all during the year. When spring comes and I plant tomatoes, peppers, eggplant etc., I plant the plants and then put one of these cans around the plant. I push the can into the ground a little. When I water the plant, the water stays in the can until it can soak down into the ground around the roots. Im careful to only add enough water a little at a time while the plants are small. When the plants get taller than the can, I fill the can full. This is also good when I use a liquid fertilizer mixed in the water. I have done this for years, and it works. -Patricia PROTECT YOUR MICROWAVE An appliance repairman told me that most microwaves fail because the switch that allows it to start breaks. This is caused, for the most part, by slamming the door. The switch is inside the door panel. Our old microwave with touch pad is over nine years old and still going strong. Gently shut the door. Dont slam it! -Deb S.

Cameron/Clearfield Counties LMGS Colleen M. Shannon said she has already seen more woodcock then she ever remembers seeing at this time of year, including numerous sightings of woodcock hens with chicks. Northcentral Field Forester Kyle Clouse was riding with me one day when we encountered a woodcock hen with three chicks attempting to cross Route 46, which bisects SGL 30 in McKean County, she said. Kyle valiantly risked his own safety to jump out and hurry the young timberdoodles across the road before they were struck by oncoming traffic. HABITAT WORK UNDERWAY ON STATE GAME LANDS Game Commission food and cover crews begin season of wildlife habitat improvements; Illegal dumping and ATV use remain problems Harrisburg - As Pennsylvania hunters and trappers begin purchasing their 2011-12 licenses, Pennsylvania Game Commission teams of land managers, foresters and Food and Cover Corps crews are focusing their efforts - and the agencys license revenues - on a massive amount of habitat improvement projects on the more than 1.4 million acres of State Game Lands. Wildlife habitats are changing across the landscape as farming practices evolve and urban/suburban expansion convert former wildlife habitats into various types of developments, from homes to shopping malls, said Carl G. Roe, Game Commission executive director. According to Pennsylvanias Wildlife Action Plan, 300 acres of wildlife habitat are being lost every day, primarily to sprawl. For this reason, the Game Commissions network of State Game Lands is critical to ensuring that wildlife will always have access to the three habitat components it needs to survive: Food, shelter and water. And, through our habitat improvement efforts, we strive to ensure habitat diversity for all wildlife.

Elk/McKean Counties LMGS John Dzemyan said most of the SGLs the Elk and McKean County Food and Cover Corps crews work now have better habitat conditions on them than they did five years ago, partly in thanks to partnership projects with National Wild Turkey Federation, Pheasants Forever, Ruffed Grouse Society, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the Keystone Elk Country Alliance, Domtar Paper Mill and the DEP Bureau of Mine Reclamation. Another major factor is the better balance of deer populations with the habitat that took the last ten years to accomplish, he said. Many of the seedlings we planted prior to 2005 were often browsed to death by deer. But, since about 2007, we are seeing increased survival of many seedlings. Even more important are the billions and billions of native tree and shrubs and other small plants that have made a comeback since deer browsing has been reduced. Many areas are now growing back thick with blackberry briers and diverse species of small trees and shrubs. The result is the same amount of work our crews did in the past now produces bigger, better, longer-lasting improvements. Areas that were for decade open and grass or fern patches are now improving with natural regeneration of trees and shrubs. There still are areas where over-browsing impacts are occurring, but not as many areas as there were ten years ago. Maintaining and creating good habitat takes hard work and complex management decisions based on science and experience. The good news is that it is working and it can continue to work. Dzemyan said a short list of some recent accomplishments are: Reclaimed mine lands grass and clovers improved on 42 acres, and 10,000 trees and shrubs planted on reclaimed areas with the assistance of DEP on SGL 311 in Elk County: Water quality improved and maintained on more than six miles of stream with mine acid problems with the assistance of DEP on SGL 311 and Elk State Forest; Logging road seeded, and trees and shrubs planted and protected with fences and tubes with the assistance of NWTF on SGL 25 in Elk County; Extra clovers planted on 31 acres of SGL 25 using increased PR funds; New fences erected to plant fruit and mass producing shrubs in on SGL 28 in Elk County in partnership with the Ruffed Grouse Society; Hundreds of trees topped to create brush piles for small game, herbaceous openings planted with grains and fertilized on SGL 44 in Elk County in partnership with Pheasants Forever; and An extra 29 acres of clovers planted using increased PR funds on SGL 44. Along with these extra projects here is a brief list of regular duties the Elk and McKean Counties Food and Cover Corps crews accomplished: More than 50 acres of poor quality trees were cut over in proper locations to create thickest of native plants along roads, fields and in forested areas; Maintained more than 1,000 acres of herbaceous openings by mowing, planting, fertilizing and liming; Refurbished three duck ponds with new out flows, wood duck boxes, clover plantings on the Allegheny National Forest in McKean County; Maintained 10 other duck ponds on SGLs and the ANF; Maintained boundaries, roads, gates and parking areas on over 85,000 acres of SGLs; Maintained hunter access with more than 200 small landowners on over 36,000 acres of private lands; Bulldozed out thousands of invasive shrubs and made brush piles out of them and planted beneficial species in their place; With WCOs, kept more than 230,000 acres of large landowners

An end cap is at the end of an aisle where almost all stores put their clearance items. I bought two Winnie the Pooh cake pans with cupcake liners and paste food coloring for $5 each at Target a few years ago. Last fall, I found little plastic zippered pouches with a variety of Burts Bees items inside for $2.34 each. Burts Bees items never go on sale. I bought two, and the friend I was with bought the remaining eight. They made great Christmas presents. Most times, I dont find anything I want, but I check these areas every time I go into a store. -Christine

Whenever wildlife managers designate animals as endangered or threatened species, it means their numbers are low, their habitat is at risk and they need specialized management or care to protect and hopefully increase their populations, said Carl G. Roe, Game Commission executive director. Species declines are usually the result of changes brought about by people, or changes in environmental conditions or ecosystems. Some are naturally-occurring, some are not. But all present the same unfortunate consequence: a species in trouble. If there is one constant, it is that the world and living conditions change, and consequently affect wildlife populations and/or distribution. Some changes are caused by natural influences such as fires, weather and disease. Others are the result or byproduct of human activities: timbering, pollution, pesticide use, development, farming and so on. Introduction of species also can influence a native species population. Some species listed as endangered or threatened in Pennsylvania are so distinguished because their range barely extends into the state, or their population has a fragile foothold here. Under the action taken today, the upland sandpiper, a grassland nesting bird long-classified as threatened, has been moved to the endangered species list because it has declined precipitously over the last two decades and has virtually disappeared from Pennsylvania. We believe the upland sandpipers rarity and diminished breeding range warrant this move, said Daniel Brauning, Game Commission Wildlife Diversity Division chief. The northern harrier, once a rare but regular breeder in the state, has experienced a marked decline in Pennsylvania, as well as declines in northwest and northcentral regions over the last few decades, prompting the Board to approve adding this species to the states list of threatened birds. The northern harrier is listed as either endangered or threatened in most neighboring states. Long-eared owls are extremely rare breeders in Pennsylvania, and difficult to survey. Nesting locations have been confirmed in only seven locations in recent years, despite a concerted survey effort over much of the last decade; most nests are located in the Ridge and Valley and Appalachian Plateau regions. The rarity and scattering of nest records within this Commonwealth have prompted this proposal to list the long-eared owl as threatened. Finally, in a reorganization of warbler nomenclature in 2011 by the American Ornithologists Union, the genus Dendroica was changed to Setophaga necessitating this administrative change in the scientific name of the blackpoll warbler, which is on the states endangered species list. For more about the Pennsylvania endangered and threatened species lists, visit the Game Commissions website (www.pgc.state.pa.us), put your cursor over Wildlife in the menu bar at the top of the homepage and click on Endangered in the drop-down box. f

CREATIVE STORAGE I live in a 1940s bungalow style home with small closets and very little storage. To store my off-season clothing, I purchased plastic brown garbage cans that are large and round. I removed the lid, placed clothes inside, and replaced the lid with round tabletop glass that I purchased for as little as $3. On top of that, I added a round tablecloth. Ive done this in our bedroom with two being used as nightstands and one in my sons room used also as a nightstand. No one can tell they are garbage cans. We also have no linen closets to store our sheets. I purchased under-the-bed storage containers, and our sheets all go under the bed until they are needed. Bath towels and wash cloths are rolled and kept in very large wicker baskets. The baskets are placed in a handy spot in the bathroom, so these items can be grabbed as needed. -Sheila C.

PREVENTING FOOD SPOILAGE Use zipper bags for all your dry and cold food. This method will save you tons of food waste throughout the year. More than 40% of all food produced in America is not eaten, according to research by former University of Arizona anthropologist Timothy Jones. Closer to home, the average four-person household wastes about $600 of food each year. Therefore, use zipper bags for all your dry and cold food and make $600 extra cash per year. -H.

BETTER VACATION DINING If you like to splurge on a good meal during your vacation, make it lunch. Most restaurants have nearly the same selections for lunch as for dinner, but lunch is usually less expensive. Smaller portions may be attractive too, since you may not have facilities for a doggy bag. -A. FRESHER PEPPERS To keep bell peppers fresh for at least two to three weeks, when you first get them, cut out the core and seeds and wrap the pieces in paper towel. Place the pepper pieces in a zipper bag. This keeps them fresh so much longer! -Sharon M. DEER IN YOUR GARDEN? It is the time of the season that the deer are out to munch in gardens. I have found that human hair spread on/around plants deter deer, and they go elsewhere looking for food. This works especially for hostas, violets, and other perennials. Your local beauty salon or school can supply you with enough human hair for the season. -Elaine G.
SAVE THE NAIL POLISH If you want to save your nail polish from going bad and getting too thick, place it in the refrigerator. I keep a little container filled with all of my nail polishes in the refrigerator, and they last for years. The liquid stays consistent and does not dry out or get too thick. -Lori EARRING STORAGE Tired of misplacing and/or losing 14K gold and white gold backs to my earrings, I started using a contact lens case to store them in. I can get several pairs in each side, and I no longer have lost backs. -Kathy H. BOARD AMENDS ENDANGERED AND THREATENED SPECIES LISTS HarrisburgThe Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners today amended the list of state endangered and threatened species to reflect the current status of breeding bird populations in the state and to update scientific nomenclature for a species of warbler. For more about the Pennsylvania endangered and threatened species lists, visit the Game Commissions website (www.pgc.state.pa.us), put your cursor over Wildlife in the menu bar at the top of the homepage and click on Endangered in the drop-down box. f OIL AND GAS DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENTS TO BENEFIT WILDLIFE The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners today approved three oil and gas development agreements that will provide much-needed revenue for the Game Commission to either deposit into the Game Fund or an interest-bearing escrow account for the future purchase of wildlife habitats, lands or other uses incidental to hunting, furtaking and wildlife resource management. The first item, which is an amendment to a previous oil and gas agreement involving a 1,930-acre portion of State Game Land (SGL) 268 in Morris Township, Tioga County, allows Endless Mountain Energy to include an additional 413.3 acres for non-surface use and will not require any additional surface impacts. The terms of the amendment will remain consistent with the existing agreement, which was approved by the Board in April of 2011, which includes a paid up, five-year, oil and gas agreement, a $3,500 per acre bonus payment, $25 per acre rental, and a 20 percent royalty. The total bonus payment will be approximately $1,446,550 and will be deposited into the Game Fund or an interest bearing escrow account for the future purchase of wildlife habitats, lands, or other uses incidental to hunting, furtaking and wildlife resource management.

The second item involves the oil and gas rights owned by the Game Commission under a 3,710.33-acre portion of SGL 36 in Albany and Monroe townships, Bradford County, and is with Chesapeake Appalachia, L.L.C. of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The terms of the agreement are a paid up, five-year, restricted surface use oil and gas agreement, a $2,000 per acre bonus payment and a 20 percent royalty. Chesapeake Appalachia already has a strong lease position surrounding this portion of SGL 36, and has initiated well drilling and development programs on adjacent private lands. Chesapeake Appalachia has the ability to unitize the Game Commissions oil and gas reserve by horizontal drilling from adjacent private lease holdings with no disturbance to the surface of SGL 36. As this oil and gas development agreement will not involve any surface impacts on SGL 36, the Game Commission staff focused on negotiating with Chesapeake Appalachia to safeguard the prudent development of the agencys oil and gas reserve and simultaneously protect the wildlife resources and recreational use of SGL 36, said Bill Capouillez, Game Commission Bureau of Wildlife Habitat Management director. The bonus payment of $7,420,660 will be deposited into the agencys Game Fund or an interest bearing escrow account for the future purchase of wildlife habitats, lands, or other uses incidental to hunting, furtaking and wildlife resource management. Future rentals and royalties will be deposited into the Game Fund.

BOARD ADDRESSES ILLEGAL ATV USE The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners today gave preliminary approval to a proposal to create a regulatory violation to possess, maintain, operate, occupy or travel by allterrain vehicle (ATV) or snowmobile in violation of the states Vehicle Code (Title 75). Unauthorized ATV operation on State Game Lands and private lands enrolled in the agencys Hunter Access Program continues to be one of the top 10 violations our Wildlife Conservation Officers encounter each year, said Carl G. Roe, Game Commission executive director. Illegal ATV operation is a major source of wildlife habitat destruction across the state, and these violations are often accompanied by ATV classification offenses, such as a lack of registration or insurance, which are required under Title 75. Under current law, WCOs do not have authority to enforce Title 75 summary offenses, and the Game Commission normally forwards these violations to other enforcement authorities, which typically ends in mixed results. This amendment will ensure safe and effective enforcement of these requirements occurring on lands under Game Commission ownership, lease, agreement or control. This proposed regulatory change must be approved by the Board at a future meeting before taking effect. f

The third item, which was announced for competitive bid in May, involves the oil and gas rights owned by the Game Commission under a 3,177.7-acre portion of SGL 36 in Monroe and Overton townships, Bradford County, and also is with Chesapeake Appalachia. The lease agreement includes a one-time bonus/rental payment of $2,000 per acre for a five-year, paid up, primary term, and a 25.5 percent royalty. Additionally, the bid provides the Game Commission a well pad location fee of $250,000 per well pad, if well pads are necessary on the surface of SGL 36. The agreement also restricts surface use to a 260-acre area, and a limit of two well pads for development. The agreement will include a free gas provision for the Game Commission to use free-of-charge up to 350,000 cubic feet of gas annually or an annual payment for non-use of the free gas. Oil and gas development include a $50,000 performance bond. The agreement will include the Commissions standard wildlife and environmental protection measures. The bonus payment of $6,355,400 will be deposited into the agencys Game Fund or an interest-bearing escrow account for the future purchase of wildlife habitats, lands, or other uses incidental to hunting, furtaking and wildlife resource management. On all three agreements, oil and gas development will be regulated by the Department of Environmental Protections oil and gas regulations, and the Game Commissions standard oil and gas development cooperative agreement and standard wildlife and environmental protection measures. The bottom line is that both agreements involving SGL 36 effectively maximize the agencys ability to allow for prudent oil and gas development by leasing 10.7 square miles (or 6,888 acres) of SGL 36, while simultaneously drastically reducing the overall needed use of that entire surface acreage down to a mere estimated 26 acres total, Capouillez said. The initial revenues and future royalties will directly benefit hunters and trappers and wildlife in years to come as we continue to target key land acquisitions for our State Game Lands, and provide a much-needed source of funding to further our agencys wildlife resource program initiatives. f

FINDING FRUGAL BED SHEETS Ive done really well buying sheets at thrift shops like Salvation Army, Goodwill, Savers, etc. You have to keep looking, but many really nice sheets do eventually get donated, and you will get the same sheet for $4 that typically costs $20 retail. Sometimes the set is sold together, and sometimes the pieces are near each other but priced individually. Sometimes you can mix and match, as in a print sheet with a coordinating solid color. Ill never buy sheets retail again. The price is so dramatically different, and I have found some truly wonderful sheets secondhand. As I say, you have to keep looking; I have turned it into a lunch-hour or onthe-way-home-from-work hobby. -Anne

DELAYING ONLINE CHECKOUT I am a registered purchaser on well-known online stores like Lands End, Old Navy, etc. I recently did some online window shopping, clicking on several items that I was considering buying. Since I was logged in, my shopping cart was saved, even though I never completed the purchase. After about a week, I received an e-mail with a 40% off coupon code if I wanted to complete my purchases. -Rachel OUR OVERDRAFT PROTECTION I have come up with a very simple way to avoid paying for overdraft protection. We always keep $200 in our account that does not show on my check register. If I do any online banking, I need to remember not to count the last $200. By doing this, I avoid problems with minor errors or small forgotten transactions. This is a whole lot better than paying for overdraft protection or having checks bounce! -Lynette

BRADFORD ELECTRONIC COLLECTION SUCCESSFUL PA CleanWays of McKean, an affiliate of Keep PA Beautiful, completed a successful electronic recycling event in Bradford this past Saturday. Hundreds of computers and TVs, along with other electronics, were brought to the Bradford Recycling Center from 9 to noon. JVS Environmental from Rockwood, PA, completely filled a truck and will return on Monday to collect the excess material. One hundred percent of the material will be completely recycled. Area agencies who assisted with this special collection included Penn State Extension, McKean County Conservation District, McKean County Adult Probation, and the city of Bradford who hosted CleanWays at the recycling center. PA CleanWays next project will be a tire recycling event on July 21, 2012, at the same location.

Bob Strait, Turtlepoint, and Jason of JVS Environmental, unload electronics at the PA CleanWays Recycling Event. Penn State is committed to affirmative action, equal opportunity, and the diversity of its workforce. f

I pour out two cups of the vinegar and save. Then I add the salt and dish soap to the vinegar and shake until I can see little or no salt remaining. I pour the mixture into a spray container and spray the weeded area, taking care not to spray any plant you do not want to kill. This mixture will kill 98% of anything it touches. It will take a little longer to work than commercial products, but its safe for pets and humans to be around. Plus, it gets the job done. As a bonus cleaner, I pour the two cups of vinegar in a spray bottle, add one cup of water, and three to five drops of dish soap. Now, I have a surface cleaner that will clean windows, counters, and bathrooms. -Faylee SMETHPORT AREA RESIDENTS: Need food? Need clothing? We want to help!
