SUCCESS STORY OF PC for PUBLIC SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR SCHOOL (Buhaynasapa NHS) The Department of Education thru the

help of the other National Government Agency is committed to modernize the Philippine education system, mainly the basic education curriculum. One of which is geared towards the vision of equipping every public school with modern computer and other ICT gadgets. With the advent of computer innovation the use of ICT to learning teaching equation became a great leap towards classroom technological advancement. It was in 2003 when the school, Buhaynasapa NHS received its first ever PCPS phase I computers with 20 units and 2 printers. With this number of computer units, the backlog ratio from 1 computer per 5 students was reduced to 1:3 ratio. However, the school was not able to maintain this ratio to numerous breakdowns of computers. Aside from this the warranty support of the products could not be attended to because of the schools location. Despite of the cost of Technical support to maintain the computers during that time, the school finally decided to invest for maintenance in order to sustain and maintain the reduced ratio. Thereby, the students were still given the opportunity to increase its exposure in Computer operation. At around 2005-2006 the breakdown and repair of units was in gradual improvement. In 2006, upon seeing the needs of increasing the number of units the school planned ad envisioned of giving more hours of exposure on the students part. With the cooperation of PTA, the school seriously took into account the possibility of 1 computer per student program. The vision became a reality, the school acquired 31 additional computer units with the over-all total of 51 units thereby 1 section with 51 students can be accommodated in one single hour. At this stage, the 1 computer per student was achieved and the technical support has been able to maintain the breakdown of computers. The school can now

provide the students more exposure in terms of computer operation as the main impact of 1:1 program. Under the 1:1 program numerous improvements such as, providing more printers to serve the students in creating their projects has been realized. This lessens the cost of going to nearby computer shops. Acquisition of 2 DLP projectors made possible thru PTA funds for teachers who integrate ICT in their lessons. 2 DSL lines were installed, one in the administrators office and teachers using wi-fi and the other in the computer Lab for students use. Lately, with the advent of UbD or the 2010 SEC, the school again decided to acquire additional units together with the PCPS 4 for another computer Lab in use for First and Second Year with the ratio of 2:1. With the increasing number of units to this date, the community nearby commonly asks how the school has acquired such low cost units and is able to maintain the functionality of the computers. By providing the families with some ideas about the accessibility of computers nowadays, some acquired for their son or daughter thereby giving them access to computer in making their homework. The school offers them technical support in order to maintain its functionality. Even at the barangay office, the school offers ideas thru consultation and extends its technical support in order to materialize their investment fully, for their purpose.
