1.1 Introduction to the study

This organisation study about the Paul $ company furniture industry is a preliminary study of the supply and use of furniture product. The aim of this study was to assist furniture manufacturers to understand and react to the needs of the rapidly changing furniture industry. Furniture manufacturing has experienced serious setbacks in recent years. Organization Studies as a Science for Design: Creating Collaborative Artifacts and Research it involves deep study of the working of an organisation Organizational studies, sometimes known as organizational science, encompass the systematic study and careful application of knowledge about how people act within organizations. An organizational study sometimes is considered a sister field for, or overarching designation that includes the following disciplines: industrial and organizational psychology, organizational behavior, human resources, and management. However, there is no universally accepted classification system for such subfields. Organizational studies encompass the study of organizations from multiple viewpoints, methods, and levels of analysis. For instance, one textbook divides these multiple viewpoints into three perspectives: modern, symbolic, and postmodern. Another traditional distinction, present especially in American academia, is between the study of "micro" organizational behavior which refers to individual and dynamics in an organizational setting and "macro" strategic management and organizational theory which studies whole organizations and industries, how they adapt, and the strategies, structures and contingencies that guide them. To this distinction, some scholars have added an interest in "meso" scale structures - power, culture, and the networks of individuals and units in organizations and "field" level analysis which study how whole populations of organizations interact. Whenever people interact in organizations, many factors come into play. Modern organizational studies attempt to understand and model these factors. Like all modernist social sciences, organizational studies seek to control, predict, and explain. There is some controversy over the ethics of controlling workers' behavior, as well as the manner in which workers are treated (see Taylor's scientific management approach compared to the human relations movement of the 1940s). As such, organizational behavior or OB (and its cousin, Industrial psychology) have at times been accused of being the scientific tool of the powerful. Those accusations notwithstanding, OB can play a major role in organizational development, enhancing organizational performance, as well as individual and group performance/satisfaction/commitment. One of the main goals of organizational theorists is, according to Simms (1994) "to revitalize organizational theory and develop a better conceptualization of organizational life." An

organizational theorist should carefully consider levels assumptions being made in theory, and is concerned to help managers and administrators.

1.2 Significant of the study

An organisation study helps to familiarize with business organisation and to relate theory with practice. This enables the students to understand about key business process and to gain knowledge about various departments. With this perception the organisation study was done at Paul & company Organisation structure determines the location of decision-making in the organisation. How organisation is created and maintained. Organisation structure provides the pattern of communication and coordination. The organisation structure helps a member to know what his role is how it relates to other roles. It helps to know why some are assigned bosses and others to work under his guidance.

1.3 Scope of the study


The scope of this study is the partial fulfillment of the Master in Business Administration For boosting the practical knowledge and to generate ideas, regarding of this therefore, I had undergone the summer training practical program in PAUL & COMPANY furniture industries The present study was conducted at PAUL & COMPANY furniture industries, focusing all the departments and how they function. And to identify problem facing by them and provide adequate suggestions and recommendation for their problems this has helped them to get a feedback regarding how they have succeeded in rendering standard service to their customers as well as employees.

Research methodology is away to scientific and systematic research for pertinent information on a specific topic and solves the research problem.

The data collected constitutes both primary and secondary data.

The research could not get the current financial statement of the company and hence the financial position cannot be analyzed The research could not get enough time to analyze the industry deeply Collection of data is done through the process of manual process. Furniture industry has changed over the years. It no longer restricts itself to a production of a chair or a table or a bed but today it includes manufacturing of a range of furniture and home furnishings and designed interiors which spell class and elegance. Industry Trends
As the world economy is developing fast in the past 10 years, the furniture markets have opened up more and the world furniture industry has been growing fast. Traditional furniture making countries continue to firmly take up over 70% of the global market. This is possible because of their long established production capacity, advancement in science and technology, solid funds and rich management experiences. Meanwhile, developing countries and regions like China, Southeast Asia, Poland and Mexico, with China taking the lead, have built upon their respective competitive advantages and gradually have covered almost 30% of the world market. The furniture industry in such countries is developing strongly and showing great potentials. The European Union furniture industry accounts for about half of the world's furniture production. The production value of this industry in this region is around 82 billion. Considered to be a labor-intensive industry it provides employment for around 1 million people. Among the European countries, Germany takes the lead as the largest furniture producing country, accounting for about 27% of total EU production. This is followed by Italy (21.6%), France (13.5%) and the UK(10.4%). The Canadian Furniture Industry is the 5th largest exporter of furniture in the world. The major furniture producing countries in South East Asia are Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Korea, Taiwan and India. In the context of global furniture trade, Asia shows healthy signs of growth with respect to its other international competitors. Asian furniture has always been popular in developed countries like USA, Europe and Australia. Over 20 years of fast growth, China has been able to bring unlimited business opportunities and vitality to the global furniture industry. Now, China has today emerged as a furniture production center, a circulation center as well as an exhibition center in the world. The rise of China's furniture industry has brought about a new round of restructuring of the global furniture industry and trade pattern. According to a recent estimate, the Indian furniture industry is estimated at around Rs 350 billion. Eighty-five per cent of this falls into the unorganized sector. According to a study by the World Bank, the organized furniture industry is expected to grow by 20 per cent a year and India, Brazil and Russia will witness a boom. But there is considerable knowledge of the pieces made by craftsmen in China, India, Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Rome from pictorial representations. Beds, tables, chairs, boxes, stools, chests, and other pieces were nearly always made of natural wood, though veneering was known in Egypt, where it was used to produce coffin cases of great durability. The Romans too used veneers, though chiefly for decorative purposes.

Furniture in India
Engraved ebony-wood India furniture was known in South India during the 19th century. Later rosewood became popular also in that region. Walnut India furniture was famous in North India. Import of Furniture India received a boost in 1998 when importers no longer required a license or special permission to import to India. By 2000, the India government allowed foreigners to invest 100% in local furniture manufacturing. This policy enticed companies such as Sauder and Herman Miller (US), List a (Switzerland), and Gautier (France) to enter the India market. Eighty five percent of the India Furniture industry is part of the unorganized sector with businesses that are often family owned and personally financed. There is un-ending demand of the product in domestic and international market. Different designed furniture and utilities are exported to other countries. There is also good demand of the product in our domestic market. At present it is also used for Interior Decoration of house, commercial places like hotel, office etc. in India and abroad. Different artistic work of cane products made by Indian artists and craftsman are sold both in domestic and International market with high appreciation.

Raw Materials
The raw materials required for manufacture of Sofa set with centre table are Assam Cane Stick, Assam Galla Cane Stick, Sundi Cane, and Cane Tar along with assorted Nails. For Centre Table top, Glass is used. For polishing the furniture, polishing materials like Gala, Sprit, Sand paper etc. are used. All the above raw materials are available locally.

different qualities for making the cane furniture. Furniture are designed by designer and the craftsman follow the designe.Some times they built it from their ideas. Basically cane sticks are required for structuring of cane furniture. Nails, fevicol, cane wire/tar are used for binding the sticks together. After that polishing materials used for polishing the furniture for better look .The manufacturing of sofa set with centre table are also done on job work basis by merchant manufacturer and exporters. Artisans are increasing on these products through their own new designed creations.

There are good numbers of manufacturers of cane furniture situated around Kolkata. Expert craftsmen are available here at a lesser cost in comparison with other metro cities.
