MISSION STS-117 BLANKET At NASA's Kennedy Space Center's Thermal Protection System Facility,
REPAIR MOCK-UP AT United Space Alliance workers are preparing three test articles that will be
KENNEDY SPACE CENTER used in wind tunnel testing to collect data for the proposed repair of the
protruding blanket on space shuttle Atlantis. The test articles each feature
three white tiles, or Low Temperature Reusable Surface Insulation, affixed to
two Flexible Insulation Blankets (FIB). The test items simulate the heat shield
on the orbital maneuvering system (OMS) pod, where the protruding blanket
is located. These test articles were flown to Texas Thursday morning, June
14.

THIS WEEK AT NASA REDEDICATION The Glenn Research Center hosted a rededication ceremony for the Space
Power Facility at the Plum Brook Station in Sandusky, Ohio. The facility is
the world’s largest space environment simulation chamber. It's being
modified to test Orion, the exploration spacecraft being designed to carry
humans back to the moon. The Space Power Facility will simulate
environmental conditions Orion will experience during launch, in-orbit
operations and atmospheric re-entry.
HUBBLE MISSION September 10, 2008 is the target launch date for the fifth Hubble Space
Telescope Servicing mission. NASA managers have planned an 11-day
