Moodle: Hiding Final Grades in Gradebook

By default, the Moodle gradebook displays the category totals and final grade (or course total) which is viewable to students. Faculty can modify the gradebook to show students all graded assignments except the category total and final course grade.

To set the gradebook to hide the final grade for students: 1. From your course under the Administration menu, click the Grades icon.

2. Click on the Choose an actiondrop-down menu.

3. Scroll down and select My Preferences > Grader report.

4. From the grader report preferences window under the Show/hide toggles section, set the Show show/hide icons drop-down option to Yes.

5. Scroll down to the bottom of the grader report preferences window and click 6. The grader report view should appear (see example below). If you do not see the grader report view, click Choose an action and select View > Grader report.

7. Click the Turn Editing On button located in the upper right corner. 8. The editing icons and show/hide toggle buttons (open eye icon) should appear within the grader report.

9. Hide the category totals within the gradebook by clicking the open eye icons in the Category total column next to each student. The open eye icon will close to indicate the category total is now hidden for each student. Repeat this step for all category totals.

Note: Do not click the open eye icon located directly under the Category total. This will hide the entire category along with the graded assignments from student view. Example: Students View (No Assignments/Grades)

10. Hide the grades in the course total column by clicking the open eye icons for each student to close them.

11. Click

12. Click the Turn editing off button in the upper right corner. 13. In the grader report view, the students category and course totals (i.e. final grades) will be grayed out indicating they are hidden from student view. Faculty can view the grayed out category and course totals from their grader report view but students are unable to see these totals from their end.
