Saab 95 ABS Module Removal for Rebuild

Symptoms:
Speedometer/Odometer stop working. ABS,
Brake, TCS Off, ! Lights all illuminate. Check
Engine Light may also illuminate.

Other than the multitude of warning lights that

appear on the dash the car will operate normally
unless ABS is needed under heavy braking. In
thins case, it is back to pre-ABS days. Wheels
may lock up so start pumping.

Reference:
www.bba-reman.com (Located in Taunton, MA)
has some instructions and will rebuild the module
if you mail it to them. I shipped mine on Monday
and had it back on Friday. Total cost was $155
with shipping

They will also do an exchange for about twice the

price of sending yours for rebuild.

Remove the cover and disconnect the battery (13

mm )

Loosen the battery mounting nut (13mm socket w./

extensions) to the top of the stud

Lift plate out of the way and remove battery

► Remove the battery mounting plate

(4x 10mm )

Note: You may think this is not needed but for the
1 minute it takes to remove, it will make accessing
the bottom two torx bolts much easier.

►Remove hood switch- Pull up. It slides right off.

►Remove Small Fuse box. Pry locking tabs away

and slides up.

Prep Fuse Box for removal

►Cut tie wrap on left side in the back. (Note:

This will allow the fuse box to flip over out of the
way. The front one does not need to removed)

►Remove two 10mm mounting nuts on the right.

Loosen the third mounting nut on the left side. It’s

tucked underneath. Once it is loose the Fuse Box
will lift up to expose the ABS Module

Lift the fuse box to expose the ABS Module

► With the fuse box out of the way Remove the

top two # 20 Torx bolts.

► Put the Fuse Box back into position over the top
of the ABS Module and remove the bottom 4 bolts.
(This just make accessing the bolts easier)

Cover the ABS module with Plastic to keep in

clean. Tie wraps work well.

Reinstall the Fuse Box and Battery and send the

module out for repair.

► Use tie wraps to retain the two cables while the

module is out.

Reinstall repaired module in reverse.

Note: The speedometer will not function while the

ABS module is removed (But I expect if you’ve
gotten this far you already knew that !)
