Proposal for: Business Plan for Managing Human Waste Processing Products

Constantinos Leonidou leonidou@gmail.com +35799610916 Christos Markou christosmarkou@hotmail.com

Executive Summary
The Business Idea
One of the challenges that modern societies face is the management of human waste produced by the population in urban areas. Most urban communities in Cyprus are using sewage systems and processing plants in order to collect and process waste but there are still issues regarding the disposal of the processing products. Usually the products of waste processing are dumped in landfills but the cost of disposal is rising because of the value of land and the communities around landfills are protesting against this action. Our proposal includes: 1. The disposal of the products of human waste processing plants which serve local communities and 2. The exploitation and utilization of the products of human waste processing and produces compost soil suitable for fertilizer production, gardening, and agriculture purposes.

The Competitive Advantages

We believe that proposal is unique because there are few or no developments in the industry around waste management in Cyprus. Our proposal will be exclusive towards local communities/authorities and we believe that it will be embraced at least with interest. Apart from the uniqueness of the proposal we will exploit the directives of the local and the European legislation and regulation about waste management. Based on these we expect that regulations and legislation about waste will leverage and help the increase of our proposal value. The third advantage we can identify is the ability to use cheap/free or subsidized products of waste processing to produce compost soil. In order to make our proposal more attractive we will apply for funding by Govermental/EU organizations considering that our proposal contributes to sustain the environment and enhances the quality of live.

The Target Market

Our proposal addresses the owners/operators of waste processing plants (municipalities, local authorities, hotel units, etc). We will provide to them a service for disposing the products of waste processing and therefore we will help them to

comply with regulation and legislation, reduce the cost of disposal and remedy the people protesting against disposing. By processing the products of the waste plants we will produce compost soil which we will make available to fertilizer manufacturers, nurseries, landscapers, farmers, government agencies, golf courses and others possible users of this product.

The Technology
The technology we will use will include the implementation of facilities (plant) for accepting and processing disposals of waste processing with mechanical/chemical and biochemical treatment. The plant we propose to develop will be near the major facilities of Limassol sewage plant with possible direct piping connection to it and with infrastructure to accept disposals from other sewage plants transported there by trucks. We will also make provisions to use energy from solar source for electricity and heating.

The Market Potential

As we have already mentioned, we consider that our proposal is unique and therefore are optimist that it will be embraced by the target customers. We estimate that since this area of waste management is still unexploited we will have many advantages as a fist entrant and we will be in a position to institutionalize our proposal towards our target customers. Especially if we achieve to ensure funding by Govermental/EU organizations we will be in a position to operate with low financing and depreciation expenses and therefore we will be able to offer competitive prices.

The Qualities of the Team

In order to execute this project we will assemble a team which will be composed by: 1. A Chief Executive Office who will be responsible for the establishment and the development of a company which will undertake the project (creation of the processing plant and business development). 2. Business Development Manager who will develop the business with the customers (local authorities/municipalities, etc) and the customers who will purchase the compost soil. 3. Technical Manager who will be responsible for the creation and the operation of the processing plant.
