Confirmation of Status of Citizenship


CONFIRMATION OF STATUS OF CITIZENSHIP EXPLANATORY STATEMENT (a) Born in the Country and Outside the Federation Part I, Article 14(1)(a), Federal Constitution. Citizenship by operation of law for person born before Malaysia Day (16 September 1963). Part 2, Article 14(1)(b), Federal Constitution. Citizenship by operation of law for person born on or after Malaysia Day (16 September 1963). The applicant and subject (person to be registered) should appear before the Registrar of Citizenship/Assistant Registrar of Citizenship when submitting the application. The applicant is the : Father or mother Guardian or immediate relative. The subject. Complete Form E and attach copies of the supporting documents.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES The applicant is required to be present at the Counter of the NRD Headquarters in Putrajaya or State NRD Headquarters or NRD Branch and bringing along the original as well as copies of the following documents.

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS Birth Certificate of the person to be registered. Translation of the birth certificate in Malay or English (If the child is born outside the country). Identity Cards of parents. Birth Certificates of parents. Citizenship Certificates of parents. Marriage Certificate of parents that was registered in the Federation. 3 colour photographs of person to be registered (measuring 32 mm x 38 mm).

FEES RM 2.00 application fee. RM 10.00 for issuance of the Certificate of Confirmation of Status

(b) Born Overseas Part 2 Article 14(1)(b) Federal Constitution. Citizenship by operation of the law for persons born on or after Malaysia Day (16 September 1963). Section 1(c) Part 2, Second Schedule of the Constitution. A person who was born on or after Malaysia Day outside the Federation whose father at the time of birth was a citizen. CONDITIONS OF APPLICATION The applicant and subject (person to be registered) are required to appear before the Registrar of Citizenship/Assistant Registrar of Citizenship/Consul Officer when submitting the application. The applicant is the: Father or Mother Complete Form D and attach copies of the supporting documents.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES The applicant is required to be present at the Counter of the NRD Headquarters in Putrajaya or State NRD Headquarters or Consul Office Overseas and bringing along the original as well as copies of the following documents. SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS Foreign Birth Certificate of the child. Translation of the birth certificate in Malay or English. Identity Cards of parents. Birth Certificates of parents. Citizenship Certificates of parents. Marriage Certificate of parents. Passports/Travel Documents of child, mother and father. 3 colour photographs of person to be registered (measuring 32 mm x 38 mm).

FEES RM 20.00 application fee. RM 10.00 for issuance of certificate by Embassy. RM 30.00 for issuance of certificate by Registrar of Citizenship with the approval of the Home Affairs Minister.

Note: All copies of the supporting documents should be made on A4 size paper. Payment in the form of postal order in the value of RM10 can be accepted. Information: All citizenship applications should be made on original printed forms. Forms can be obtained from NRD Headquarters in Putrajaya or any State NRD Headquarters, except forms for overseas birth registration application and registration of renunciation of citizenship application, which can be obtained from Consul Offices overseas.
