*What is a survey?
A systematic method for gathering information from (a sample of) individuals for the purposes of describing the attributes of the larger population of which the individuals are members. The attributes attempt to describe basic characteristics or experiences of large and small populations in our world.

*Features of a survey
Information is gathered by asking people questions. Information is collected either by having interviewers ask questions and record answers or by having people read or hear questions and record their answers.
Information is collected from only a subset of the population to be described (a sample)rather than from all member.

Survey methodology is the study of survey methods and the sources of error in surveys. Error describes deviations from the desired outcome.

Sampling is the process of selecting a small number of elements from a larger defined target group of elements such that the information gathered from the small group will allow judgments to be made about the larger groups

*Question Design

An instrument (form) to -collect answers to questions -collect factual data *gathers information or measures A series of written questions/items in a fixed rational order. A questionnaire is a research instrument consisting of a series of questions and other prompts for the purpose of gathering information from respondents

*Interviewing
*A set of verbal and non verbal interactions between two or more people focus on gathering Information to decide on a course of action. *A qualitative interview seeks to describe and the meanings of central themes in the life world of the subjects. The main task in interviewing is to understand the meaning of what the interviewee says.
