Changing role of State

The city state which came into existence 5000 years ago is undergoing change in a phased manner. It is called by different names based on the role it plays in the lives of the people .

Police State
The term Police state" was first used in 1851, in reference to the use of a national police force to maintain order, in Austria .
A standing police force became common in the late 19th and early 20th century, the term "police state" came to be used more commonly .

Introduction
The term Police state describes a state in

which the government exercises rigid and repressive controls over the social, economic and political life of the population. It exhibits elements of totalitarianism and social control It is anti democratic in character.

Classification of a Police state


It is rare that a country will identify itself as a police state. An electronic police state is one in which the government aggressively uses electronic technologies to record, organize, search and distribute forensic evidence against its citizens.

A "temporary police state" can exist by design.


For example, in Copenhagen in 2009, the Danish government enacted laws that would permit police to use unlimited discretion in detaining the suspected of opposing the Conference of Parties .

Enforce policies of central government , instead of responding primarily to criminal misdeeds . Spy on citizens and intimidate them .

The country is governed by a Military Dictatorship as with a junta or The Generals


Military Rule applies Court Martial and Non judicial Punishment When a country or area is conquered after invasion - placed under military occupation

Taxpayers would not be forced to fund

police services; these transactions would be voluntary. It would disadvantage the poor . Public police, by contrast, are limited in size by the political jurisdiction.
