Abdominal Vasculature:

Arterial supply

Abdominal Aorta
The main bld. Supply to the abdomin comes from: Abdominal Aorta Starts in aortic hiatus opposite to T12 Ends opposite to L4 by dividing into: 2 common iliac arteries & ???

Branches of Abd. Aorta

Abd. Wall branches: 5 lumbar a. (each side) 1st lumbar = inf. phrenic artery Abd. Cavity branches: (Visceral) 3 anterior 3 lateral 3 terminations

3 anterior: celiac trunk Sup. Mesenteric Inf. Mesenteric 3 lateral: suprarenal renal gonadal (testicular or ovarian) 3 terminations: 2 common iliacs (L4) median sacral a.

Celiac Trunk
At level of T12 just beneath the hiatus
Very short Divides into 3 branches: Lf.: splenic a. (largest) Rt.: common hepatic a. Sup.: left gastric a. (lesser curvature superiorly)

Splenic Artery
Largest branch of celiac trunk Pass post. to the stomach & sup. to pancreas Enters the ?? ligament to reach the hilum of the spleen Branches: pancreatic arteries short gastric arteries (to the fundus) left gastro-epiploic a. (greater curvature on lf.) (synonym: gastro-omental)

Splenic Artery

Hepatic Artery
Rt. Branch of celiac trunk
Pass in the Rt. Side to the hilum of the liver Part of the portal triad (what is the triad?)

Porta Hepatis
In the middle of visceral surface
Contains: (Portal Triad) Portal vein (in) Hepatic artery (in) Bile duct (out)

Hepatic Artery
Branches:

Rt. Gastric a.: where??

Gastroduodenal a.: descends behind duodenum (1st part) gives: Rt. Gastro-epiploic & sup. Pancreaticoduodenal 2 terminations: Lf. Hepatic a. Rt. Hepatic a. cystic a. comes from Rt. Hepatic a.

Celiac Trunk Branches (Review)

Superior Mesenteric Artery

Arises: below celiac trunk & just above the Lf. Renal vein descends: post. to neck of ?? Ant. to 3rd part of duodenum Supplies the intestine: from lower of duodenum Until proximal 2/3 of transverse colon

Relations of Superior Mesenteric Artery

Sup. Mesenteric a.

Main Branches of Sup. Mesenteric (Read Your Text)

1. Inf. pancreaticoduodenal a. anastomose with sup. Pancreaticoduodenal a. (comes from??) 2. Jejunal & ileal branches. 3. Ileocolic a.: to ileum, cecum & appendix, and part of ascending colon 4 branches ? gives off the appendicular a. from (which artery?)

4. Right colic a.: supplies the ascending colon

5. Middle colic a.: supplies proximal 2/3 of transverse colon

Inferior Mesenteric Artery

Supplies intestine:
From distal 1/3 of transverse colon Upper of Anal canal Runs downward to the left.

Branches of Inf. mesenteric a. (read your text) Lf. Colic: supplies distal 1/3 of trans. Colon & descending colon Sigmoid arteries: 2-3 branches sigmoid colon Superior rectal a.: rectum & upper of anal canal
