Welcome

On behalf of Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute, I wish our chief guest, Padmashri Dr. Ananda Shankar Jayant; Chairman, Shri. Nandamuri Balakrishna; Members of the board, distinguished guests, media, colleagues & friends a warm welcome and a very good morning.

Welcome
Breast cancer is the second most frequent cancer among women with an estimated incidence of 23 out of every 100 new cancer cases diagnosed. It is now one of the most common cancers both in the developed as well as developing regions of the world.

Welcome
Though incidence is high in developed countries, mortality due to breast cancer is coming down and part of that success is due to the awareness created by the World Breast Cancer Awareness Month program.

Welcome
Since the program began in October 1985, mammography rates have more than doubled for women aged 50 years and older and deaths have declined.

There are now about 25 lakhs breast cancer survivors in United States alone.

Welcome
But the situation is quite opposite in developing countries like India, where 46 out of every 100 newly diagnosed breast cancer patients do not live till next year, whereas in western countries it is only 27 out of 100 patients. The cause for this difference is lack of awareness about the disease, fear of being diagnosed with cancer, even if aware; lack of access to screening as well as quality, timely & affordable cancer care.

Welcome
Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute, the wish of late Smt. Basavatarakam, wife of late Shri. Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao, who herself succumbed to cancer, was established with the goal of bringing affordable world class cancer care into the common mans reach.

Welcome
Since its inception the hospital has conducted several hundreds of screening programs as well as strived to spread awareness about cancer among people. In this silver jubilee year (25) of the commencement of the World Breast Cancer Awarness Month, Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute has committed itself towards the goal of bridging this gap in cure & survival for Indian women.

Welcome
Thank you all for being here today and joining hands with us in this noble initiative
