A foreign policy initiative of India which was initiated in 1991. To take advantage of the historical and cultural affinities of the Northeast To enhance economic integration with the dynamic East and Southeast Asian countries A strategic shift in Indias perspective of the world

WHY BURMA/MYANMAR
Myanmar is the only ASEAN country with which India shares both land and maritime boundaries. Consequent to visit of Senior General Than Shwe to India in 2004, the bilateral relations are at an all time high. India has extended a number of general and projectspecific credit lines to Myanmar in the last few years. A number of agreements and MOUs, including the Tripartite Maritime Agreement between India, Myanmar and Thailand, the Border Trade Agreement and an agreement on Cooperation between Civilian Border Authorities, have been signed. Indian companies are involved in oil and gas exploration in Myanmar.

CONCLUDING REMARK
Now the geographical location of Manipur is becoming and advantage. She is located among one of world identified bio diversity hot spot having huge amount of natural resources and rich human resources. State has all the potential to transform into a commercial hub and a tourist paradise and become Gate Way to South East Asia with the sincere efforts of all the stakeholders.
