Welcome Back 8x4.

Between now and half term (Friday 26th Oct) we will be studying a novel together. The novel is called Once and was written by Morris Gleitzman.

Task requiring skills in information retrieval (RAF2)
1. Write a brief letter from Felix to an imaginary old school friend, Jacob. Your letter should include: an address based on as much factual detail as you can find in Chapter 1 (p12) details about what is in the soup on that particular day (p1) description of your friends (p1, p4).

Group tasks requiring skills in inference (RAF3). Choose one task from the choices below. 1. Imagine you are a buildings inspector. Write some brief notes for a report about the orphanage basing your opinions on facts from the first chapter (p1, p4, p7).

Imagine you are a social worker. Write some brief notes for a report on the way the children are being cared for. Include: your worries about what might happen to the children (p3, p5, p7) your thoughts about the reasons why Felix is there (p3, p5).

Task requiring skills in sentence structure analysis (RAF4) 1a.Plot a scatter graph to represent the length of each of the 23 sentences youve been asked to explore.

1b. Look at the bar graph. Label each bar with an emotion E.G: fear, relief, panic, calm, anger. Higher Order Thinking Task
1c. What does this suggest about how the author has chosen to structure information for the reader?

1. Refer to the front cover, back cover and dedication to all the children whose stories have never been told explore the possible motivations the author had in writing the book.
