Non availability of Clean Drinking Water results in,

People suffering from number of diseases .like Diarrhea, Jaundice etc. Women loose their precious time of work/ employment on fetching water from long distance and suffer health problems. Acute water shortage result in less overall cleanliness. Overall effect on animal upkeep and health habits such as washing of teeth, hands, bathing, washing of utensils, Gardening etc Overall poor upkeep of Body, House and Animals.

Healthrelated diseases. The women are the main sufferers and they face many health problems. Due to open defecation the environment gets polluted including the water
Non availability of Sanitation Facility results in,
bodies, air etc.

The overall expenditure the family has to spend on health increases considerably. The girls do not attend the schools and hence the rate of drop out increases.
Sanitation is the basis of personal comfort and hence can not be ignored in
overall development plan. Loss of GDP to the tune of 1 to 2 % and hence has huge impact on our growth. Loss of tourism, and hence loss of revenue to the Govt.

Non availability of Fuel for Cooking results in,
Deforestation due to cutting of trees for fuel. Loss of green cover on the earth. Due to smoke lot of health problems are faced by women. There is pressure on fossil fuel such as coal, kerosene which is not going to last long. Animal dung cake is used as fuel which is gross waste of organic matter/manure.
Families have to depend upon non guaranteed sources of energy.

Loss of working hours of women and girls etc as cooking is cumbersome and takes lot of time.

Non availability of Electricity results in,

People can not work till late night so loss of income generation. Elec. Pumping, Primary Health Center, Small Businesses, Flour Mill, Milk Chilling Center etc comes to standstill causing inconvenience to people. Thefts, robbing, raping gets increased. Loss of revenue due to stoppage of all business and manufacturing activities.

Lack of Primary Health Center results in

People have to walk long distances in case of emergency. Women have more problems at the time of delivery. People loose precious working time when they are not well and loose income. Vaccination can not be given to kids which result in early childhood deaths. Productivity of any work depends on health of the people so it gets affected very badly. All in all loss of income to the villagers and subsequent less activity in market.

Absence of skill based education results in,

Skill based education is very essential for youth and all villagers for becoming self reliant. Lack of education result in unemployment and subsequent frustration in life. The creative energies of youth remain untapped and they become burden to the society. Increase of crime rate, and youth likely to be taken to different vices. Lack of skill in girls is very serious as they find it very difficult to get suitable partner in the marriage market.

No Food Security in Rural India.

People face starvation and malnutrition. The ability to work gets affected so income generation also gets affected. The old people, women, small children and people below poverty line are mostly affected due to food shortage and very low purchasing power. Overall productivity of the people is affected which also results in no income generation. So nutritious food supply has very positive impact on the working capacity of people and hence must be available at reasonable cost to all villagers.

Agri Marketing and Sustained Income to Farmers

Main problem in rural area is farmers are not getting remunerative price to their produce. When they have bumper crop, prices fall and they hardly get any money to cover their production cost. The farmers do not get fixed income, health benefits, retirement benefits as normal salaried class people get. The markets are captured by middlemen who manipulate the purchase and get maximum benefits and farmers get nothing in the bargain. Since majority of farmers have small land holdings, their income is also very limited.

Solid and Liquid Waste Management.
The present situation of our villages is very pathetic with lot of garbage lying around, pigs eating the waste, pool of water where mosquitoes start breeding. The condition of roads, buildings, farms, industries, health center, schools, cow sheds etc is very bad and present a very dismal picture. The transportation facilities are also worst so people can not travel easily which affects their working and earning ability. Govt offices, water supply, power supply etc all present big question mark on the working systems in a village. Lack of sanitation facility adds to the pollution of the village and also poses health hazards.

Old Age Security.
This is very important aspect of any family that they always wish to have some security for their future and old age. The family requires funds for education of their children, marriages, construction of house, cow shed, godown etc. Social security is very important to tide over the problems and difficulty of old age. Lack of old age Health benefits result in many old people suffering from various ailments and have to spend huge amount on medical treatment or remain untreated due to paucity of funds. Old people become a liability to the society rather than they becoming an asset by making use of their experience and wisdom.

Drinking Water Security..
Rain water harvesting. Storage tank of minimum 5000 lit capacity 5 pesrons per family x 3 liters per dayx 365 days = 5000 liters. Provide water filter in each house. Assured pure drinking water will result in improved health of all the people and so more productivity and more income for people.

By constructing tanks in composite masonry any Mason will be able to construct these tanks and people will get assured drinking water throughout the year. This will improve peoples health and earning capacity.

Provide healthy Individual or Community Toilets with Hand Washing Facility. Provide Healthy Toilets in Schools, Anganwadis,Panchayat Office etc. Provide Community Toilets at Public Places. Provide items of daily requirements near public toilets

Provide bio gas plant linked to community toilets. Provide solid waste collection points and use this waste for generating bio gas plant. Use all agri waste and all that is biodegradable material available in a village for generating gas. Provide this gas for cooking to individual house, or community kitchen or use it for electricity generation.

Bio- Gas Generation from Excreta and Municipal Solid Waste.

All the municipal solid waste, kitchen waste and sewage from toilets is collected and fed to bio gas plants. The gas generated is either used for cooking or if more gas is generated then Electricity is generated and used in the village for street lighting etc. We achieve Health, Sanitation, Energy and Clean Environment.

Prof. Shrikant Bhate, Architect, age 64 years, graduated from Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya,Pune, standing First and securing First Class in the year 1972 and has been working in Education field since 1983 and retired as Principal, BKPS College of Architecture, Pune in the year 2008.
