PHYSICS PAPER 3 : 4531/3

Question 1 : Manipulative skills ( measuring and reading of scales ) -Stating the MV, RV, FV & Hypothesis -Tabulation of data -Drawing of graph

PHYSICS PAPER 3 : 4531/3

MARKS FOR TABLE :

1. Table consists of MV and RV + other quantities required in the question

2. The values are recorded + units

3. Consistent decimal places ( depends on accuracy of measurements )

4. Correct reading of MV + units ( the accuracy for values

depends on the smallest division )

5. Decimal places must be consistent

(5 M)

5m =7 4m = 5-6 3m = 3-4 2m =2 1m =1

PHYSICS PAPER 3 : 4531/3

Marks for graph :

Title of graph Axes : must be correctly labeled Correct units for MV and RV Scales must be uniform and even ( avoid odd

scales )
Transfer of points must be correct . All 5 points must be transferred correctly

Draw the line of best fit / curve - smooth

PHYSICS PAPER 3 : 4531/3

Question 2 :
Analysis of graph( given ) Stating relationship Calculation of gradient Doing extrapolation and intrapolation

Calculation of a physical quantity normally in a given formula

Stating the safety precaution

PHYSICS PAPER 3 : 4531/3

Marks for determining the gradient : Draw a big triangle on the graph Show the correct substitution Final answer + correct units

Suitable inference :

The tyre sinks deeper because of greater force/ weight// mass/load. The sinking of the tyre depends on the force/load. 1m Note : use cause and effect relationship . Key words: Influences/ depends

Relevant hypothesis
The greater the force/load/weight the greater the pressure. 1m Write the relationship. Reject : directly proportional at this stage

Aim of experiment : To investigate the relationship between force /weight and Pressure. 1m
Variables : Manipulated, Responding, Fixed MV : Weight RV : pressure ( defined by depth of 1m depression ) FV : Type of plasticine used 1m

Apparatus and materials :

Plasticine, weight and metre rule. State a functional arrangement of the apparatus : Prepare a block of plasticine of constant thickness and weight is put on ( drop on )/ diagram. (Draw the diagram with label)

Procedure:
-State the method to control the manipulated variable :

Place a weight of 50 g on the plasticine

- State the method to measure the responding variable : Measure the depth of the depression made using a ruler.

-Repetition of experiment
Repeat the experiment at least 4 times: ( can be 4 letters, 4 numbers and 4 different values ) e.g : repeat using weight/ mass of 100g, 150g, 200g and 250g.

Show how the data is tabulated :

Weight /Mass 50 100 150 200 250 Depth

Show how data is analysed

Plot / Draw a graph of depth against weight Depth Or

Weight
