A PRESENTATION ON WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY BYPRIYANKA [M.

SC(IT)]

Introduction
Wireless operations permits services, such as long

range communications, that are impossible or impractical to implement with the use of wires. The term is commonly used in the telecommunications industry to refer to telecommunications systems (e.g. radio transmitters and receivers, remote controls, computer networks etc.) which use some form of energy (e.g. radio frequency (RF), infrared light, laser light etc.) to transfer information without the use of wires.

What is wireless wireless is the connection , without any physical link

History of wireless technology

Wireless technology was un-imaginable till Heinrich Rudolf Hertz in 1886-1888 demonstrated the transmission and reception of radio signals.
Sinking of Titanic in 1914, created a new area of radio telegraphy and telephony . First communication only satellite transmission was launched on 1960s and it made possible to communicate to any part of world.

Definition of wireless technology

"a technology, such as cellphones , that uses radio waves to transmit and receive data. Electronic products and systems that interact by using electromagnetic energy, to carry information between them, so they can communicate with each other

How wireless works

Wireless communication is worked on radio frequency(RF). In which electromagnetic spectrum associated with radio wave.

.When RF current is supplied to an antenna then electromagnetic field is created and it is able to propagate through space.
Access point devices are detect the signal and tuned them and serve to the computers or other wireless devices.

Wireless can be divided into:

Classification of wireless
equipment connected to the Internet via specialized modems

Fixed -the operation of wireless devices or systems wireless in homes and offices, and in particular,

Mobile - the use of wireless devices or systems aboard wireless motorized, moving vehicles; examples include the
automotive cell phone and PCS (personal communications services)

Portable -- the operation of autonomous, wireless battery-powered wireless devices or systems outside the office, home, or vehicle; examples include handheld cell phones and PCS units

IR wireless -the use of devices that convey data via IR (infrared) radiation; employed in certain limited-range communications and control systems

Wireless equipment and their application

WI-FI

Wi-Fi is a wireless local area network that enables portable computing devices to connect easily to the Internet. Wi-Fi enables the user to deploy a computer network without needing to run cable throughout the facility

Wi-fi Standards : IEEE 802.11.b 2.4GHz 11Mbps IEEE 802.11.a 5GHz 54 Mbps IEEE 802.11g 2.4Ghz Hybrid 11/54Mbps

Bluetooth: -

Bluetooth also uses the microwave frequency spectrum in the range of 2.4 GHz to 2.4835 GHz. The radiated output power of Bluetooth devices varies between 1 and 100 mW. It has rang of several meters.

Cellular:- phones and pagers -- provide

connectivity for portable and mobile applications, both personal and business

Global Positioning System (GPS):-

allows drivers of cars and trucks, captains of boats and ships, and pilots of aircraft to ascertain their location anywhere on earth.

Cordless computer peripherals -the cordless mouse is a common example; keyboards and printers can also be linked to a computer via wireless

Home-entertainment-system control boxes The VCR control and the TV channel control are the most common examples; some hi-fi sound systems and FM broadcast receivers also use this technology Remote garage-door openers one of the oldest wireless devices in common use by consumers; usually operates at radio frequencies

Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM)

a digital mobile telephone system used in Europe and other parts of the world; FDM and TDM techniques is used for communication.

General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) -a packet-based wireless communication service that provides continuous connection to the Internet for mobile phone and computer users.

Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS)

a broadband, packet-based system offering consistent set of services to mobile computer and phone users no matter where they are located in the world

i-Mode
the world's first "smart phone" for Web browsing, first introduced in Japan; provides color and video over telephone sets.

Advantages of wireless
Flexible if there is ad-hoc situation when additional workstation was required. Implementation cost is cheaper than wired network. deal for the non-reachable places such as across river or mountain or rural area

Ideal for temporary network setups.

Disadvantages of wireless
Lower speed compared to wired network.

Less secure because hacker's laptop can act as Access Point. If you connected to their laptop, they'll read all Your information (username, passwordetc).
More complex to configure than wired network

Affected by surrounding. E.g: walls (blocking), microwave oven (interference), far distance (attenuation)
