Posidonia in natural habitat

Basic characteristics
Is the most common flowering plant in Mediterranean Sea Inhabits seas with temp 10C to 28C Inhabits depths down to 40m (1m to 30m) Forms vast underwater meadows Is of great importance for production of O2 Important organic matter producer Represents source of food, shelter and habitat for numerous sea species

Posidonia oceanica (L.) Delile is bioindicator of unpolluted sea areas.

Institute for marine biology, Kotor, Montenegro

monitoring of Posidonia oceanica

performed using the technique of SCUBA diving five distinct locations: Herceg Novi, Rose, Zanjic, Ljuta and Dobrec observation in situ underwater digital photography density evaluation of P. oceanica meadows using square method sampling of orthotropic sprouts for further examination

Measurements of water parameters

Depth Temperature salt concentration light saturation oxygen concentration

Measurements of meadow density using square method

Square method is usually performed in groups of two

Measurements are written down and/or photographed

Special site : Artificial reef

Located near Ljuta Made of concrete Positioned to imitate natural reefs of Boka bay 7day automatic probe measurements Surprisingly low biomass production and low species number

Data and Results

Data unfortunately remained unavailable Results indicated regression of sea grass meadows on some sites (Herceg Novi, Dobrech) Flowering residues were not found at any of the sites

Discussion
Herceg Novi popular tourist destination Sewage of Boka bay flowering problem? Regression of meadows due to inappropriate anchoring
Pollution protocols :
LBS protocol:Land-based Sources of Pollution SAP: the Strategic Action Programme NDA: National Diagnostic Analysis

Other problems in Boka bay

Use of dynamite for fishing purposes !!!

Non-sewage pollution

Good sides of Boka bay research and the end of presentation : - )

GREAT OUTDOOR PARTIES !!!

Thanks for Your attention : - )
