Gifts are important. We give and receive gifts as signs of love, generosity, and kindness. Let us try to recall the gift that Jesus gave to show His love for us.

The Last Supper

Matthew 26:17-28

1. What did Jesus say before giving the bread to His friend?
2. What did He say before giving the cup of wine to His friends? 3. What kind of food was given by Jesus to His friends on the last night of His life?

REFLECTION
1. Why did Jesus give His body and blood to us as our food? 2. How can we show that like Jesus, we are ready to offer ourselves to others?

Liturgy of the Eucharist is another main part of the Mass. Jesus now invites us to share the sacred meal with Him in the spirit of praise and thanksgiving.

We begin the Liturgy of the Eucharist by offering our gifts of bread and wine to the altar.

- The altar is also called the Table of the Lord. We also offer ourselves to God together with His Son Jesus as a sign of our love for Him. - The priest takes our offerings and presents them to God our Father in the name of Jesus. We call this part the OFFERTORY or the PREPARATION of the GIFTS.

The Church uses special plate and cup at Mass.

The paten holds the bread that becomes the Body of Christ.

The chalice holds the wine that becomes the Blood of Christ.

The ciborium holds the small bread for the peoples communion.

The two small bottles that hold the water and wine are called cruets.

Here, we also offer money and other gifts for the needs of the Church and for the poor.

After accepting our gift, the priest will say: Pray brethren that our sacrifice may be acceptable to God the almighty Father. We say: May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of His name, for our good and the good of all His Church.

After the preparation of the gifts is the EUCHARISTIC PRAYER. -It is the most important prayer in the Mass. -It is a great prayer of praise and thanksgiving for all of Gods wonderful gifts.

1. What is the third main part of the Mass? 2. Why is the Liturgy of the Eucharist important? 3. What do we do during the Offertory? Why do we do this? 4. Why do we need to offer money and other gifts during the offertory? 5. What can you share to those who have less in life?

REFLECTION
1. What is sacrifice? 2. Why is it important to sacrifice? 3. How can one show or do sacrifice?

At the center of the Eucharistic Prayer is the CONSECRATION.

-most solemn part of the Mass - it is where the words and actions of Jesus during the Last Supper are repeated by the priest. -The bread and wine becomes the body and blood of Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. -We kneel down properly to adore Jesus the Bread of Life.

Then we proclaim our faith by saying or singing: Christ has died. Christ has risen. Christ will come again.

Within this prayer, we pray for the various needs of the Church, for our Church leaders, for those who have died. We join the saints in their prayer.

This long prayer ends with GREAT AMEN. We tell God that we are one with Jesus in offering this great sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. AMEN Yes, I Believe

COMMUNION RITE:

After the Eucharistic prayer, we now prepare ourselves to receive the Bread of Life. As one family, we say the OUR FATHER or the LORDS PRAYER.

RITE of PEACE. The priest then invites everyone to share the peace of Christ to others.

BREAKING of the BREAD

LAMB of GOD

The priest will raise the Body of Christ and will invite us to receive Him as he says:

Priest: This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Happy are we who are called to His supper.

ALL: Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

During Communion, we receive Jesus, the Bread of Life.

Communion Proper

-In the communion, we become united with Jesus and with one another. -We ask Jesus to make us grow in our faith, hope, and love and make us more like Him.

The priest will share with us the Body of Jesus saying: The Body of Christ. We say: Amen.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION: After communion, we pray with the priest that our Union with Christ may help us change our lives and make us strong in loving and serving others.

REFLECTION
The body of Christ we received in communion will make us grow in love for God and for others.
