What is Leadership?
It is a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal. Leadership involves Influence Leadership occurs in groups Leadership includes attention to goals.

Leaders need followers and followers need leaders. It is the leader who initiates the relationship, creates the communication linkages and carries the burden for maintaining the relationship.

Leadership - Vision

Leadership is not about authority, control and dominance. Rather, its about inspiration, guidance, direction, excellence, motivation and sway. Inspiration is the key. Any organization that is not changing continuously will disappear. Change leads to innovation and adaptation.
The very essence of leadership is that you have to have vision. You can't blow an uncertain trumpet. - Theodore M. Hesburgh

Leadership is lifting peoples vision, raising their performance to higher levels and developing their personality beyond their expected limits. Leadership is the ability to lead from the front with a passion and with a conviction of a great vision, despite many successive setbacks. It is also taking a sense of responsibility, setting as a role model with qualities like courage, commitment and conviction.

An Eye for Talent

When Ganguly saw M.S. Dhoni in some domestic match he said I have to make this boy play for India. His eye for talent has thrown up enough stalwarts for us to accept this as one of his special skills-Dhoni, Harbhajan, Yuvraj and Viru.

When Sehwag was asked to open the innings in test matches, he was worried that failure would mean being dropped. Keep up your promises Do not put blame on others for your mistakes Contribute all you can for the success of your team. Keep developing your abilities Talk to your employees honestly and clearly Do what you believe is right though you have to pay a price for it.

Be confident Listen to what others have to say and do it with empathy. Praise them for their success and share their success story with others. Accept people as what they are and respect them. Place the interests of your team members before yours. Trust your employees and their abilities.

Refers to a leaders creative ability to solve new and unusual, ill-defined organizational problems. It includes being able to define significant problems, gather problem information, formulate new understandings about the problem and generate prototype plans for problem solutions.
