address complex and interrelated

issues.

Where will Tourism Growth Occur?

Special Market Segments

Tourists demand more unique and unconvential experiences in the future Cultural, rural, adventure, sports-related tourism Should nations place geographical limits on tourist activity? Are there certain types of environments that should be protected from all forms of visitor intrusion? How will governments balance the competing demands for access to popular natural areas with their preservation and protection. Build or expand existing airports? Local residents resist due to traffic, noise pollution, and unattractive development.

Balance and Protection

Massive Developments?

Who will benefit from Tourism Growth?

As growth occurs it is expected that more resources become available to more people-higher wages higher consumption. Increased health quality, education, arts and culture Governments can improve their services in areas such as social assistance and support, education, health care, environmental protection, citizen safety, and planning.

Tourism in the Future

The World Tourism Organization (WTO) forecasts that tourism will continue growing at the average rate of 4.4% By 2020 Europe will remain the most popular destinations; but its share will drop to 46% Space tourism is expected to take off in the first quarter of the 21st century; however number of tourists will remain limited. Technological improvement is likely to make possible air-ship hotels, floating cities, movable hotels. Underwater hotels, such as Hydropolis expected to open in Dubai in 2009.

Hilton on the Moon

Hilton unveils plans for the first luxury hotel in space.

The possibility of an orbiting or lunar hotel is discussed. It is suggested that when space scientists make it physically feasible to establish hotels in space and to

transport people, the hotel industry will meet the challenge (Barron Hilton).

Moving Hotels
Hotel lodging of the future could be temporary, licensed, prefabricated, self-sustaining, transportable facilities. These holiday pods can be erected on sites all over the Earth, in locales where establishing a traditional holiday resort would be unacceptable environmentally and politically.

Space Tourism

Space Tourism is a fledgling industry, born out of

necessity.

Driven by the same curiosity and ambition that took humanity to the Moon.

It appears to be here to stay.

Space Hotel

Tourist stop? Hotel investment community is intrigued but remains skeptical. Low-cost access to space is a key to lofting orbiting facilities like this...as well as public waiting lines for that special room with a view.
