WHAT IS NVT?

NVT stands for night vision technology.

It is the ability to see in dark environment with the help of biological or technological means. Night vision uses two approaches: sufficient spectral range and sufficient intensity range.

WHAT IS NVT?

N.V.T encompass techniques of image conversion, image intensification and thermal imaging . Night vision equipment has evolved from bulky optical instruments in lightweight goggles. Was first used in second world war.

GOVERNING PRINCIPLE

GOVERNING PRINCIPLE

Incoming light is collimated by fiber optic plates Impacting a photocathode which releases electrons, , which in turn impact a phosphor screen. Green illumination is liberated creating an image.

TYPES OF NVT
Image Intensification
-works by collecting the tiny amounts of light. - including the lower portion of the infrared light spectrum.

Thermal imaging
- operates by capturing the upper portion of the infrared light spectrum emitted by hot objects. -Hotter objects, such as warm bodies, emit more of this light than cooler objects.

Image intensification technology

Takes the small amount of light that's in the surrounding area (such as moonlight or starlight).
Converts the light energy (photons) into electrical energy (electrons). Electrons pass through a thin disk containing more than 10 million channels.

Image Intensification Technology

As the electrons go through the channels, secondary emission of electrons takes place.
Electrons collides with phosphor screen creating clear image even in night.

Thermal Imaging Technology

Thermal imaging works as:
-A special lens focuses the infrared light emitted by all of the objects in view. -The focused light is scanned by a phased array forming thermogram pattern.

-The thermo gram created by the detector elements is translated into electric impulses.
-The impulses are sent to a signal-processing unit.

Some Characteristics Of N.V.T

Depth Perception
Degraded performance in Fog and Rain Honeycomb dark and bright Spots

ADVANTAGES

The ability to see in total darkness.

Possessing better vision than the enemy, thus putting him at a disadvantage. Increased mobility as a result of improved vision. Quite useful in security and rescue operations.

LIMITATIONS

Lack of clarity. Limited field of vision. Necessity of an additional power source. Most night vision devices do not detect color information

APPLICATIONS

Military purposes Law enforcement Wildlife observation and hunting Navigation Investigation and security Surveillance and hidden object detection Search and rescue operations
