CLASS 1 IMPORTANCE AND SCOPE OF ACCOUNTING

DEFINITION OF ACCOUNTING:
AICPA (1941): Accounting is an art of recording, classifying and summarizing, in a significant manner and in terms of money transactions and events which are, in part at least, of a financial character and interpreting the results thereof.

DEFINITION OF ACCOUNTING:
AAA (1966): The process of identifying, measuring, and communicating economic information to permit informed judgments and decisions by users of the information.

1. Transaction: A transaction is an exchange in which each participant receives or sacrifices value. E.g. purchase of plant and machinery. 2. Event: An event is a happening of consequence to an entity. E.g. use of raw material for production.

SCOPE OF ACCOUNTING:
Further, scope of accounting can be attributed to the branches of accounting like cost accounting, financial accounting, management accounting and social responsibility accounting.

MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING OR ACCOUNTING OF MANAGERS It measures and reports financial and non-financial information that helps managers make decisions to fulfill the goals of an organization.
