Important Question…

s Scripture Allow Paid Missionaries?

I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing.
You yourselves know that these hands of mine have
supplied my own needs and the needs of my
companions. In everything I did, I showed you that by
this kind of hard work we must help the weak,
remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: “It
is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:33-35

Paul refused to live

off gifts
How were you inferior to the other churches, except that I
was never a burden to you? Forgive me this wrong! Now I
am ready to visit you for the third time, and I will not be a
burden to you, because what I want is not your possessions
but you. After all, children should not have to save up for
their parents, but parents for their children. So I will very
gladly spend for you everything I have and expend myself
as well. If I love you more, will you love me less? Be that as
it may, I have not been a burden to you. 2 Cor 12:13-16

The Right Attitude

We are carrying a message given by God,

so it needs to be delivered with
respect and
Above love
all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture
came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy
never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as
they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. 2 Pet 1:20-21

It is equally important to deliver the

right Watch
message
your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if
you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers. 1 Tim 4:16

It is essential that you believe that message

and it is seen by others to be a powerful

example
and in purity… Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to
them, so that everyone may see your progress. 1 Tim 4:12,15
Confidence vs Humility

Don’t be discouraged if you think you don’t know

enough; presenting the Bible in an open and
honest way is more convincing, and helpful, than
proving you are right
Don’t be combative or
look to pick fights over
things – build from
agreement where you
can:
Remember God is working
- e.g.
through Heaven
you; going
this should
provide both confidence
and humility
For the word of God is living
and active. Heb 4:12
Cooperating with Others

Cooperate as much as possible

with those related to the area
where you are traveling.
 Learn the language if
possible
 Make friends with the CBM
linkperson – overcome
possessiveness if necessary

Just get in there and have a go!

General Tactics

Preparing to Preach:
• Read your Bible every day
• Write notes in your Bible in a form you
understand
• Be aware of the way you conduct yourself
while preaching
• Be aware of the context and paradigms of
your audience
• Don’t expend time and
effort on those who don’t
want to look at their Bibles,
except to try and demonstrate
Use Questions

Be armed with questions you are prepared to

ask:
• “I just don’t believe all that killing in Iraq is
justifiable morally. Do you?”
• “If spiritual development is so important, why
are there so few subjects in education which
seek to develop it?”
• “What did you do this weekend?”

Be prepared to invite along to church events

- and therefore must have some to invite
to!

Minimal & Subliminal

We have to be both prepared and able to preach

at home if we are to do it overseas. Publish the
message in simple ways:
• Make/Wear Christadelphian T shirts
• Put stickers on your vehicle or around the
workplace
• Append scripture to your email signature
• Say prayers in public
• Make & distribute business-size preaching
cards
• Live Christ to people
