Introduction
Types of Cyber Crimes

Introduction
Computer crime, or cybercrime, refers to any crime

that involves a computer and a network. The computer may have been used in the commission of a crime, or it may be the target.Netcrime refers to criminal exploitation of the Internet. Such crimes may threaten a nations security and financial health. Issues surrounding this type of crime has become highprofile, particularly those surrounding cracking, copyright infringement, child pornography, and child grooming. There are also problems of privacy when confidential information is lost or intercepted, lawfully or otherwise.

Types of Cyber Crimes


Computer crime encompasses a broad range of

activities. Generally, however, it may be divided into two categories: (1) crimes that target computers directly (2) crimes facilitated by computer networks or devices, the primary target of which is independent of the computer network or device.

1:Computer Viruses
A computer virus is a computer program that can

replicate itself and spread from one computer to another. The term "virus" is also commonly but erroneously used to refer to other types of malware.

Denial of Service Attack


A denial-of-service attack (DoS attack) or

distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS attack) is an attempt to make a computer or network resource unavailable to its intended users

Malware
It is designed to disrupt or deny operation, gather

information that leads to loss of privacy or exploitation, or gain unauthorized access to system resources, or that otherwise exhibits abusive behavior Malware, short for malicious software, consists of programming (code, scripts) and active content.

2:Cyber stalking
Cyber stalking is the use of the Internet or other

electronic means to stalk or harass an individual, a group of individuals, or an organization. It may include false accusations, monitoring, making threats, identity theft, and damage to data or equipment, the solicitation of minors for sex, or gathering information in order to harass.

Fraud and identity theft


Fraud is a crime, and also a civil law violation.

Defrauding people or entities of money or valuables is a common purpose of fraud, but there have also been fraudulent "discoveries", e.g., in science, to gain prestige rather than immediate monetary gain.

Information Warfare
The term Information Warfare (IW) is primarily an

American concept involving the use and management of information technology in pursuit of a competitive advantage over an opponent. Information warfare may involve collection of tactical information, assurance(s) that one's own information is valid, spreading of propaganda or disinformation to demoralize or manipulate the enemy and the public, undermining the quality of opposing force information and denial of information-collection opportunities to opposing forces. Information warfare is closely linked to psychological warfare.

Phishing
Phishing is a way of attempting to acquire

information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication
