GRE General Test measures skills in:

Verbal Reasoning Quantitative Reasoning Analytical Writing Skills

Prospective graduate students applying to US universities. Students applying for Fulbright and other scholarships. The scores provide common measures for comparing the qualifications of applicants and aid in evaluating grades and recommendations.

Computer-based

test Duration~4 Hours Fee: $175 Scores valid for 5 years Can retake after 30 days Send scores free to 4 institutions on day of the exam $ 25 for sending score to additional institutions. Option to send only the latest score Test conducted Monday-Thursday all year around

Cancellation: 3 days prior to test date not including the test day and day of request with partial refund (50%). No cancellation refund is admissible for those who already availed 50% discount. Rescheduling: Fee is $ 50. Request must be received 3 full days before the test.

GRE Test Format

The GRE test uses a basic word processor developed by ETS. This software contains the following functionalities: Insert text, delete text, cut-andpaste and undo the previous action. Tools such as a spell checker and grammar checker are not available in the ETS software.

The Transfer Display button can be used on Numeric Entry questions with a single answer box.

Score range: 0-6 points in increments of 0.5

Analyze an Issue task: 30 minutes

Example:

Present your perspective on an issue in cohesive, organized, grammatically correct English covering all aspects of the issue The GRE reader are evaluating the skill with which you address the specific instructions and articulate and develop an argument to support your evaluation of the issue.

As people rely more and more on technology to solve problems, the ability of humans to think for themselves will surely deteriorate. Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

Example:

Analyze an Argument task: 30 minutes Assesses your ability to understand, analyze and evaluate arguments according to specific instructions and to convey your evaluation clearly in your writing. A recent study attests to the value of physical activity in increasing attention spans of young children. Accordingly, to improve the overall learning levels among elementary school children in our state, the states board of education should mandate a daily exercise regiment for students at all state schools. Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of the argument. Be sure to explain how the argument depends on the assumptions and what the implications are if the assumptions prove unwarranted.

Each Reading Comprehension question is based on a passage that may be one or many paragraphs long. Question Types:
Multiple-choice Questions Select One Answer Choice: These are the
traditional multiple-choice questions with five answer choices of which you must select one.

These provide three answer choices and ask you to select all that are correct; one, two or all three of the answer choices may be correct. To gain credit for these questions, you must select all the correct answers, and only those; there is no credit for partially correct answers. Select-in-Passage: The question asks you to click on the sentence in the passage that meets a certain description. To answer the question, you choose one of the sentences and click on it; clicking anywhere on a sentence will highlight it.
