A Little History (1)

Before talking about Japan and Keio, we should talk about Asia and the world. We must recognize that many of great scientific knowledge originated in Asia. Explosives and paper were invented in Asia. Mathematic concepts such as zero and methods such as algebra were also developed in Asia. We should be proud of our scientific tradition. We owe a lot to the west for creating economic systems that convert scientific knowledge to industries, i.e., sustainable systems of value creation.

Japans Modernization and Keio University In the latter 19th Century, Japan reacted to the wave of colonization by the west by westernizing itself, rather than refusing it. Japanese spirit with western technology was the key phrase. Keio University was founded by Yukichi Fukuzawa in 1858 as the hub of modernization. First Reverberatory furnace was constructed in the same year. Keio University graduates have been key players in establishing modern Japanese companies such as Mitsubishi companies, as well as conversion of traditional Japanese companies such as Mitsui into modern industrial companies.

Wave of Open Innovation

Post Second World War Development

Companies such as Sony and Honda were started by jobless but high level engineers that returned from war. Central Laboratories of Big Companies such as NTT and Hitachi played major roles in technology development. Wave of Open Innovation arrived in the 1990s which threatened past success models of Japanese industry. That tended to emphasize cohesiveness of organizations. Growing expectations for external institutions such as universities for carrying out basic research.

Problems

Public transportation in Malaysia

Very poor not efficient, not punctual. Public has no confidence in the current system, not reliable. Gov deploys more buses and lower bus fares but didnt address the root cause.

Flood of private vehicles

Car pooling not effective and not a solution. Serious traffic jams. Environmental problems air and sound pollution.

Solution
Real time checking of public transports location Benefits

User can plan and manage their travelling time easily. No more long wait at stops/stations. User can check traffic conditions easily. User travels at the cheapest possible way.

Technologies

Main technologies used

GPS system (Already preinstalled in most of the public transports). Mobile EDGE/3G/3.5G. Live map Google Earth, Virtual Earth, etc.

Features

Planned features
Real time location checking of all public transports that ply users route. Real time status checking of these vehicles. Real time, accurate traffic conditions checking. Determine the estimated time these public transports will reach users starting/waiting location.

Summary

WIMAXNAVIGATION AND RESCUE SYSTEM

CHEW WEI CHOON CEO

INTRODUCTION

Wimax consist of large coverage and provide mobile access to the internet. Referring Tsunami case in December 2004, Wimax have been selected and used to assist the communication in Aceh, Indonesia.

Communications interrupt between the survivor and the outsider due to all communication been destroyed, and finally with the help of Ham Radio and the broadband access of Wimax, it regenerated communication to and from Aceh.
Wimax is useful to apply in the rescue system.

OBJECTIVES

Provide helps and useful information to the survivor who are lost such as in the jungle. Helps to the detect the location of the tourist/ survivor and provide direction to help them find the destination the system can be applicable to kids who are lost. They just need one click to that device to get to the police and when police receive that signal, they can detect their current location and can get to their rescue as soon as possible.

EXPLAINATION

The navigation and rescue system we thought of will be applied using mobile.

Wimax consist of Mobile Wimax and Fixed Wimax. Thus we will only focus on Mobile Wimax instead of Fixed Wimax.

Both Wimax have wireless connectivity to Internet and Mobile Wimax is used to support mobile application.

All the data access is via cell phone. The significance of the project appears immediately when we think about how a person could find his way out when he or she gets lost or when a child is being kidnap.

COMPETITIVE ADVATAGES

Compare to the other 3g technology the Wimax spectrum is more economical. This difference in cost/Hz is particularly significant in Europe, where the average 3G spectrum cost/Hz is 353 times higher than the average Wimax spectrum cost/Hz. The proportion is smaller in other regions, but remains in favor of Wimax. It is important to highlight that the aggregate 3G spectrum is in lower frequency bands than the aggregate Wimax spectrum.

BENIFITS

Reduce the criminal such as kidnap. Provide the fast solution to the survivor and reduce the risk of the casualty. By using wimax, it has large converge and with high transfer rate of data, so a lot of importance information can be transfer such as voice, video and data in a short time. It is a very useful system to provide rescue and navigation information

Current system

Current Semantic Email Systems involve a pre-set

email-based form which is meant for specific purpose only.

Our proposed system

This system has the capability of : 1. sending out requests to required people (participants) for gathering data 2. collecting responses from all the participants 3. notifying the administrator of inconsistency in data submitted by participants 4. entering valid data into the database

Modules
For organisational setting
1. Time management 2. Make requests 3. Set appointments 4. Arrange meetings

The title of my business plan would be ocumentary Production Platform. It is a web site to find the partners to create documentary films together, and communicate each other during the production process using the platform. And also, the platform could be a theater for documentary films. This idea is based on the experience taking documentaries; you have to fly around to film all the movies that you need. But now, as it is much easier to contact people from all over the world, there should be much more choices for the process of making documentaries. The platform would be consist of 3 parts: one is the personal portfolio that you can express your self to other creators. You can show your experience, technique, sense, your opinion, and the idea that you wish to work for. The second part is the communication platform, where you can collaborate each other in real time using online communication tools. The third part is the documentary film theater for the public. You can put your films on the site and people can see the films in cheap price. Those films also can be used for educational purpose or learning purpose, as it is filmed by someone who is familiar with the topic. The first customer for the plan is the domestic amateur young people who are interested in filming or has desire to express their opinion. The second customer is the people who are interested in citizenjournalism, who come to the site and buy it to use for educational purposes. The goal of this plan is to give young people an experience to express their opinion to the society collaborating with others.

Vision/Mission 1. Enabling the society to access high quality and affordable technology a. Locally designed and manufactured products will have minimal cost in production thus, resulting in cheaper price tag. b. R&D in local institution will create better 2. Assist Malaysia to venture into greater depth in science and technology development. a. Malaysia is encouraging young entrepreneurs to get into business that is related to science and technology. Grants and related training are made available for such entrepreneurs. b. Satellite technology is one of the latest area that is 3. Create a better environment for semi-illiterate-technology-users. a. Even though, Malaysia is advancing smoothly in technology development, the awareness of such technology among Malaysians is not encouraging, especially among rural residents and aging citizens. The complexity of a technology makes them feeling hopeless and gives up in using the technology. Easier handling of a technology will attract them and will prevent them from being isolated in technology development. Product: Mobile Global Positioning System (GPS) The main function is as a portable electronic map. It will have mobility function and wireless capability. User-friendly function is the key point which differentiates our company design to the available design in the market. Target customer At this moment, we are more interested in attracting local market, Malaysia. In order to gain a stable cash flow, a contract sales agreement with any road transport related company is being set as our main target. For example: a) Car manufacturer national car PROTON, PERODUA and NAZA b) Road public transportation such as bus, taxi and rental car company c) Travel agent and tourist information Marketing strategy GPS technology is still new to Malaysian. Therefore, many customers will have doubts with its success rate and skeptical thoughts about its functionality. Therefore, in this first stage, introductory package free after sales service for a period of time will be offer.
