Oil production in Oman

Oil First discovered in Fahud region in 1964

Natural gas reservesstand at 18 trillion cubic feet. LNG processing plant located in Sur was opened in 2000, with production capacity of 6.6 million tons/YR More than 150 oil fields. PDO drilled 4800 oil and gas wells.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

CHALENGES WHICH LIE AHEAD IN SUSTAINABLE DEVOLOPMENT: Challenge of global warming, pollution, loss of habitat and depletion of natural resources Treatment of saline Water (by-product of oil production) Drilling fluids (can contaminate land, surface water)

SOLUTIONS
investments in renewable energy like hydrogen fuels, solar energy, and wind projects cleaner production (CP) technique Reed bed system was established in southern Oman 2000 for re-use of saline water compact container-size pilot plant developed to overcome problem of waste waster
