What is a Stock Exchange?


Stock exchange is that place where trading of shares is done in terms of sale and purchase.

Introduction
NSE was incorporated in November 1992 as a tax-paying company and in April 1993, it was recognized as a stock exchange under the Securities Contracts Regulation Act, 1956. It is the 16th largest stock exchange in the world and largest in India by daily turnover and number of trades, for both equities and derivative trading.

As of December 2011, it has a market capitalization of around US$985 billion. It is the second fastest growing stock exchange in the world with a recorded growth of 16.6% and over 1,640 listings as of December 2011. It is the third largest Stock Exchange in the world in terms of the number of trades in equities.

A) Pre-open session Order entry & modification Open : 09:00 am Order entry & modification Close : 09:08 am *with random closure in last one minute. Pre-open order matching starts immediately after close pre-open order entry. B) Regular trading session Normal / Retail Debt / Limited Physical Market Open : 09:15 am Normal / Retail Debt / Limited Physical Market Close : 03:30 pm Block deal session is held between 09:15 am and 09:50 am C) The Closing Session is held between 03:40 pm and 4:00pm

Certifications
NSE also conducts online examination and awards certification, under its programmes of NSE's Certification in Financial Markets (NCFM). Currently, certifications are available in 37 modules, covering different sectors of financial and capital markets. Branches of the NSE are located throughout India.
