Multimedia & Video Database

Group No- 4

Video is the technology of electronically capturing, recording, processing, storing, transmitting, and reconstructing a sequence of still images representing scenes in motion.

What is Video?

A file comprising a collection of related information organized in a manner that enables operations such as searching and sorting the data is called DATABASE. So a collection of videos and related things is called Video Database.

What is a Video Database?

Video technology was first developed for cathode ray tube (CRT) television systems. In 1951 the first video tape recorder captured live images from television cameras by converting the camera's electrical impulses and saving the information onto magnetic video tape. But several new technologies for video display devices have since been invented.

History

Relation of Multimedia with Video Database

Multimedia Data
There are four major types of multimedia data: Text Images Video Sequences Sound Tracks

A video is a combination of all multimedia formats hence, video database is a collection of these multimedia data.

Content-based Image Retrieval

Image retrieval has received a lot of attention in the last decade (CV and DBs). The main techniques can be extended and applied also for video retrieval. Images were traditionally managed by first annotating their contents and then using textretrieval techniques to index them.

Characteristics of video streams

Number of frames per second

Frame rate, the number of still pictures per unit of time of video, ranges from six or eight frames per second (frame/s) for old mechanical cameras to 120 or more frames per second for new professional cameras. PAL (Europe, Asia, Australia, etc.) and SECAM (France, Russia, parts of Africa etc.) standards specify 25 frame/s, while NTSC (USA, Canada, Japan, etc.) specifies 29.97 frame/s. The minimum frame rate to achieve the illusion of a moving image is about fifteen frames per second.

Video compression standards attempt to compress videos by performing an intra-frame analysis Each frame is divided into blocks. Compare different frames to see which data is redundant in the two frames Drop redundant data to compress Compression standards: MPEG - 1,2,3,4, Cinepak, JPEG video

Video Standards

Image has higher resolution than previous video forms, All major hardware manufacturers and software developers have agreed upon for the future of film, TV, video and broadcasting. Existing Standard Definition (SD) for PAL- 720 x 576 For NTSC- 720 x 480 For HD-1280 X 720 / 1920 x 1080. The quality is three times the size of SD.

Latest Video Format- HD

Video Database Management System (VDBMS)

VDBMS means Video Database Management System. A Video database management system is a framework that manages different types of data potentially represented in a wide diversity of formats on a wide array of media sources

What is VDBMS

The primary goal of a Video Database Management System (VDBMS) is to provide pseudo-random access to sequential video data. This goal is normally achieved by dividing a video clip into segments, indexing these segments, and representing the indexes in a way that allows easy browsing and retrieval. Therefore, it can be said that a VDBMS is basically a database of indexes (pointers) to a video recording

Primary Goal Of VDBMS

Digitization and compression: hardware and software necessary to convert the video information into digital compressed format. Cataloguing: process of extracting meaningful story units from the raw video data and building the corresponding indexes Continued

Components Of VDBMS

Query / search engine: responsible for searching the database according to the parameters provided by the user. Visual summaries: representation of video contents in a concise , typically hierarchical, way. Indexes: pointers to video segments or story units. User interface: friendly, visually rich interface that allows the user to interactively query the database, browse the results, and view the selected video clips.

VIDEO DATABASEFUTURE SEARCH ENGINES

Videos do not require any particular language to communicate with the viewer. The video may be a silent movie, silent tutorial or class. Search engines- Language dependent. Video databases- Language Independent. Follow steps shown- Learn/ Solve a problem. Practical approach to the problem. Actual steps of solving. Eg- Group 9 presented a video tutorial of the VirtualDJ software, similarly millions of videos are available online. In the future with growth of internet the demand for good video database managers would increase and demand for sites like Youtube is ought to increase.

Now a days, almost everybody has a large collection of movies. On an average this Number ranges from 10-50. Sometimes it becomes difficult to make a note of the location of these videos. Along with movies other videos like those of songs, tutorials, classes etc are also found. If the location is not known the loss is denting. There are various softwares available for maintaining the video database records in PCs. Eg- MySql, Easy Video Database, MyVids, All My Movies.

Tools

Award winning movie database program. Stores information about movies - title (both original and adopted for foreign movies), director, year of release, actors, genre, description, type of storage media (VHS, DVD, AVI file, etc.) and so on. Data import from internet movie databases, Simply enter the name of the movie and the rest is done automatically. Capture movie screens for DVDs and AVI files and attach them to the database. In addition, the program comes with password-protection options to prevent unauthorized access. Finds videos on request. Link to I-Phone or Android.
