CAUSES OF SUICIDE CASE STUDY SUICIDE PREVENTION CONCLUSION

WHAT

IS SUICIDE

Suicide comes from the Latin, sui cidium, meaning to kill oneself Suicide is defined as deaths given an underlying cause of intentional self-harm or injury / poisoning of undetermined intent

Highly variable circumstances

Common scenarios, e.g.

Hanging Jumping from height / in front of train Drug overdose Firearms Suicide bomber

Wide extremes, e.g.

Suicide by cop

WHY SUICIDE?
There is no simple answer.
Usually, the emotional upset is so great that the person just wants to stop the pain. The suicidal person feels a tremendous sense of loneliness and isolation. They feel helpless, hopeless, and worthless.

In 2009, 36,909 people in the United States died by suicide. About every 14.2 minutes someone in this country intentionally ends his/her life. Although the suicide rate fell from 1992 (12 % 100,000) to 2000 (10.4 % 100,000), it has been fluctuating slightly since 2000 despite all of our new treatments.

Suicide is considered to be the second leading cause of death among college students. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for people aged 25-34. Suicide is the third leading cause of death for people aged 10-24. Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death for adults between the ages of 18 and 65. Suicide is highest in white males over 85. (46/100,000, 2009)

MURDER SUICIDE
SUICIDE ATTACKS MASS SUICIDE SUICIDE PACT

It is an act in which an individual kills one or more other persons before, or at the same time as, killing him- or herself.

Chris Benoit double murder-suicide occurred over a three-day period ending on June 24, 2007. He killed his wife and strangled his seven-year-old son.

A suicide attack is an attack upon a target, in which an attacker intends to kill others and cause great damage, knowing that he will either certainly or most likely die in the process.

The September 11 attacks were a series four coordinated terrorist attacks resulted around 3,000 causalities including 19 hijackers.

Mass suicide occurs when a number of people kill themselves together. It occurs in religious settings or sometimes planned by frustrated people

The Heavens Gate mass suicide occurred in a hilltop mansion near San Diego California in 1997. They believed an alien spaceship was hiding behind the comet and killed themselves in order to reach it.

Its an agreed plan between two or more individuals to commit suicide. The plan may be to die together, or separately and closely timed.

A love affair between two teens in Bangladesh ended in tragedy after the 16-year-old girl's family married her off to a man twice her age. The girl and her 17year-old boyfriend tied their hands together with a scarf and jumped to their deaths from a mobile phone tower.

Sura Al-Baqarah (195), Allah (SWT) says, And do not throw yourselves in destruction. Sura An-Nisaa (29-30), Allah (SWT) says, Do not kill yourselves. Verily, Allah is ever Merciful unto you. Whoever does that through aggression and wrongdoing, We shall cast them into Fire, and that is ever easy for Allah.

A persons killing himself, thats, committing suicide for this or that reason is neither accepted lawful reasonably nor religiously, and it is not permissible. And as he committed such an important sin, he deserves the punishment of Hell in the hereafter. (Muslim, Faith: 175).

Stress Anxiety Depression Mental Illness

Suicide is considered a possible complication of depressive illness in combination with other risk factors because suicidal thoughts and behavior can be symptoms of moderate to severe depression. These symptoms typically respond to proper treatment, and usually can be avoided with early intervention for depressive illness

Suicidal behavior has not been associated with the Anxiety Disorders alone until recently. It has long been known that as many as 90 percent of suicides in the United States are associated with mental illness, especially substance abuse disorders, schizophrenia, and mood disorders such as depression. Up to 75 percent of all people with depression, schizophrenia or other mental illnesses who attempt or complete suicide also are diagnosed with one or more of the Anxiety Disorders.

Stress isn't inherently bad. It causes you to respond to events, to "rise to the challenge", and to better yourself. But too much stress can be catastrophic. And too much stress can cause suicidal feelings

The pain and distress associated with mental illness can be so extreme that person feels an overwhelming desire to end their life. The term mental illness refers to a group of illnesses, disorders or diseases that affect a persons thought processes, perception of reality, emotions, or judgment, and could lead to disturbed behavior.

sociological theories are based on the idea that suicide results from the level and amount of control society has over an individual and the effects of social conditions and social changes on the person

Psychological theories of suicide typically focus on conflicts within the individual; the role of one's thought processes, emotions, and personality characteristics; the person's developmental stage; and the ways in which the person's family functions.

biological theories are based on the examination of biological aspects of suicide such as the influence of genetics, hormone levels, and neuro- transmitter levels in the brain.

Name: Kamran Khan Sex: male Age: 13 Occupation: Student

SHAHBQADAR, Peshawar ,Pakistan

Kamran Khan doused gasoline and get himself fire. Reason

Kamran died on March 30, lying in an army-run hospital with burns covering 65 percent of his body. His family hoped that by keeping Kamran and his older brother in school it could pull itself out of poverty

Shakirullah, the principal and owner of the school, where Kamran studied, said that kamran was at the top of his class. But one day, Kamran stopped coming to school. Later, Shakirullah was shocked to see the boy wandering around town picking up scraps of metal to sell. He quit the school in class 4. He used to work as scrap collector. Principal asked him to join the school. But he said he couldn't pay the school fee. Principal offered him to join the school without any fee. But even that offer was not enough. Students at private schools still have to buy their own school uniforms and books. It was Kamran's inability to get a new uniform.

Kamran's brother, Salim Khan, says kamran asked his mother to buy him a new uniform. But she repeatedly told him the family didn't have the money. Finally, she lost her patience and slapped him His mother told that Kamran threatened to kill himself if she did not buy him the uniform. Then he said his life was absurd. Then he set himself on fire. That was a difficult time for his family. The boy's death was a blow to parents who already had lost one child to poverty.

Kamran's death was doubly tragic because it comes when help for students like him could be on the way. That month, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province launched a British-funded school-enrollment campaign designed to help 80,000 needy students. The project, budgeted at 200 million pounds ($320 million), will pay their tuition fees and provide them a modest stipend. It will also fund construction of new schools. But the project comes too late for Kamran.
