Free Indirect speech


Free indirect speech is a style of third-person narration which uses some of the characteristics of thirdperson along with the essence of first-person direct speech.

Stream of consciousness
Stream of consciousness is a narrative mode that seeks to portray an individual's point of view by giving the written equivalent of the character's thought processes, either in a loose interior monologue, or in connection to his or her actions.

Example from the text: Meg sensed she had become temporarily important. (page 104) Suddenly she wondered : What if Wal, if Wal had ever? (page 192) Where was Meg, though? (page 211)

Juxtaposition of characters
Juxtaposition is the placement of two

concepts, characters, things, events, ideas, phrases, settings or words side by side in order to draw a contrast, create suspense, bring about a rhetorical effect, compare, or as a tool for character development.
