Am I happy having parents like them?

What did you find about your relationship with your parents? If it is not so good, what will you do to improve it. If it is good, then how will you maintain it?

Our parents are the ones who have brought us into life. It is proper that we should show our love to them through our respect, obedience, and concern. When we love our parents, we also show the same love to God for they are Gods image.

Day 2

The Fourth Commandmet

DYAD SHARING
Why should we honor our parents?

Why do we show respect to the elders?

What are the sacrifices that our parents do for us?

We Connect
When honor our parents, we give the same honor to God for He is present through the love and care of our parents.

What does the Commandment mean?

Our parents have a very especial task in carrying out Gods plan of letting all of us share in His Divine life. They make sure that we do not only have a good life but that we also become good persons. They make a lot of sacrifices so that they could fulfill this task. We come to know God through them, such that we experience Gods unconditional love through their love for us.

What does the commandment asks us to do?

We should also show respect to elders, guardians, authorities like the Principal, teachers, kuyas and ates , Priests, Bishops, Holy Father, and government officials. We must learn to be very understanding towards them. Our parents are not perfect. Therefore they also commit some mistakes and sometimes they may have hurt us. However, the fourth commandment wants us to realize that they are doing everything for our good.

What did Jesus teach concerning this Commandment?

We are reminded that we should respect our parents(filial Piety) as our gratitude toward them who by the gift of life, their love and work, brought us into the world and enabled us to grow in wisdom and grace(cf. CCC 2215) Jesus is asking us to support and take care of them in their old age, loneliness and sickness

Short Reflection Questions

1. Why should we love, obey, and honor our parents? 2. Why should we honor our parents as we show our honor for God?

We Pray
Lord, I surrender to you my family. Lord Jesus, I pray for my parents. Though you blessed them abundantly, today they are in need of your help. Give my parents joy and strength. Fill them with your strengthening presence. Lord, give them real thirst and hunger for the Holy Spirit and for the Word of God. Give them health in spirit, soul and body.

We Pray
Even though they may feel that all the trouble they took for their children are being wasted, help them to see the great reward waiting for them in Heaven. Help my parents to forgive themselves and forgive everyone else.

Even though as parents they may have failed to fulfill their duties, Lord, set them free from sadness and sorrow, regrets and sense of guilt. Jesus fill them with your Holy Spirit. Thank you Jesus. Amen
