Characteristics of Good Mental Health


- Mental health is determined by the way a person feels

about oneself, towards the others and how he is able to face and adjust to day to day living condition. - People who are mentally healthy can resolve most of their problems at a reasonable amount of time. - They do not let their emotional ups and downs get in the way of enjoying their everyday life.

Characteristics of Good Mental Health


1. Having a positive self- concept- Mentally healthy people have a positive self- concept. Having a positive self-concept makes way for an objective adjustment. 2. Taking responsibility for yourself- mentally healthy people take responsibility for themselves. They do not blame others for what happens to them, nor do they see themselves as a victim in their world. 3. Having satisfying relationship- mentally healthy people accept others as they are and respect individual differences. They can give love and support.

4. Adapting to changes- people often feel uncomfortable when they experience changes in their lives. This feeling is natural because any kind of change can be stressful. However, mentally healthy individual tend to adapt changes to change in their lives.

It is often difficult to tell how well adjusted as person is , but there are some significant signs:
A well adjusted persons know how to deal with others,

which make her a good companion. She is able to accept himself and the conditions of her life with fairly persistent satisfaction. She contributes as spirit of cooperation and good will to the necessary activities of her group.

Factors Affecting Mental Health


Physical Health- a diseased mind may come with a diseased body. Whatever promotes Physical health promotes the development of a strong mind and a well- balanced body may be maintained by physical work combined with mental work. 2. Intelligence- higher intelligence means the ability to handle more complex relationships.

3. Habit training in childhood- the family and the

home assist ones mental growth. They can show good habits of study and provide environment that is intellectually stimulating. 4. Ethical and moral upbringing- these are provided by the family and homes as well as the church and school. 5. Personal effort to practice mental hygiene- past experiences determine the way one respond to present situations.

reality principle understands that other people have needs and desires and that

sometimes being impulsive or selfish can hurt us in the long run. Job: to meet the needs of the id, while taking into consideration the reality of the situation.

Superego - Regulator the moral part of us and develops due to the moral and ethical restraints placed on us by our caregivers conscience
In a healthy person, according to Freud, the ego is the

strongest so that it can satisfy the needs of the id, not upset the superego, and still take into consideration the reality of every situation.

reaction formation taking the opposite belief having a bias against because the true a particular race or belief causes anxiety culture and then embracing that race or culture to the extreme

sitting in a corner and crying after hearing bad news; throwing a temper tantrum when you don't get your way forgetting sexual abuse from your childhood due to the trauma and anxiety sublimating your aggressive impulses toward a career as a boxer; becoming a surgeon because of your desire to cut; lifting weights to release 'pent up' energy trying to forget something that causes you anxiety
