Virtual Instrumentation

Palak Shah M.Tech C&A NIRMA UNIVERSITY

Objective
General idea of Virtual Instrumentation Necessity Basic idea about LabVIEW Application area

Virtual Instrumentation
Combines three elements. 1) productive software:Helps in rapid development & increase functionality. . 2) Modular I/O:- Very helpful in virtual instrumentation. it is quickly accessible during current operation. 3)Synchronizing platforms:Provide latest computer capabilities .

Necessity of Virtual Instrumentation

Delivers instrumentation with the rapid adaptability. Engineers can create the user define instruments. Helps in rapid development and extend the functionality, design and text instrumentation also. Component modular I/O has quickly accessibility for functions during concurrent operation. Provides the flexibility to adapt and extend as needs change.

LabVIEW

Laboratory virtual instrument engineering workbench. LabVIEW, a powerful software system & a program development system. Accommodates data acquisition, instrument control, data processing, data presentation & includes conventional program development tool.

An interactive user interface Simulates the panel of a physical instruments Contains the controls and indicators

2) Block Diagram
The block diagram

contains the graphical source code.

Displays front panel objects as a terminal.

Icon /Connector

An Icon represents a VI in other block diagram. A connector shows available terminals of data transfer

PALETTES IN LabVIEW

Different application area

Waveform generation & analysis

(Function generator, Formula waveform generation:-)

Measurement
(Basic averaged DC RMS, spectrum analyzer)

Communication
(Sound control, technology to read a waveform)

I/O interfaces
(GPIB, Serial communication)

Create a VI in LabVIEW
Build a VI that simulates acquisition of a temperature reading. A transducer or sensor converts the temperature to voltage, is connected to the A\D converter . 1)Front panel :The thermometer indicator displays temperature reading in deg C..

BLOCK DIAGRAM

Documenting the VI
Type the description for the VI in the VI information dialog box.

Conclusion

With the virtual instrumentation, The user defined Instruments can be easily developed. With the virtual instrumentation, the engineers & scientists can reduce development time, design higher quality products & lower their design costs. The LabVIEW, a graphical development environment, offers the performance & flexibility of a programming language & very helpful to build the virtual instrument.
