The Clarks hotel was the very first property Rai Bahadur M.S. Oberoi acquired in 1934. It owns and runs thirty five luxury and first class international hotels in seven countries. In 1938 Rai Bahadur M.S. Oberoi signed a lease to take over operations of a 500 room hotel in kolkata called a Grand hotel. Rai Bahadur M.S. Oberoi became famous hotelier in 1941. In 1959, The Oberoi Group became the first group to start flight catering operations in India.

Rai Bahadur M.S. Oberoi started with an agreement with an internationally renowned hotel chain and was the first one to do so in 1965. The Oberoi Intercontinental in Delhi became the first 5 star international hotel in the country. Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development (OCLD) was the learning center started by Rai Bahadur M.S. Oberoi in 1966. A 35 storey Oberoi Sheraton in Mumbai was inograted in 1973. Oberoi began building his first hotel outside India which was called The Lanka Oberoi in 1973. The Lanka oberoi was opened in 1975.

Biki spotted a European property in budapest in 1981. Oberoi signed the agreement for Oberoi Greesham palace in Budapest in 1991. The Oberoi Cecil in Shimla, built in the early 20th century, reopened in April 1997 after extensive and meticulous renovation.

Leading hospitality chain Oberoi Group is planning to set up 10 more hotels in the country and abroad by the end of 2011 and adding 2,300 rooms. The group is currently in planning and development stages on eight properties in India and six of them would be ready and operational by end of 2011

Jaipur Oberoi rajvilas view

The group has presently 30 properties under the brand name of Oberoi (luxury segment) and Trident (five-star) and the new additions would take the total number of hotels operated by the chain to 40 during the next three and half years It also has a room capacity of around 4,400 rooms and the new additions would take the figure to 6,700 rooms during the period.
