Power generation through Thermal Power Plant is 140.20 GW . It is 70% of the Total Installed capacity .
For 2011-12 year ,a Base load energy deficit and peaking shortage was 10.3 and 12.9 % respectively.
The Energy Demand for 2016-17 is expected to be
218 GW.

India has Plan to capacity addition of 88000MW in 12th Five year plan . Growth of Power sector will be around 5.17 % In 12th five year plan . Thermal power Generation achieved a growth rate of 3.81 % in year 2010-11 .coal based generation growth rate was 3.99% in same year . For meeting the demand require of large generation unit by developing the Ultra Mega Power Projects (UMPPs)
Integrate Power Projects with dedicated captive coal blocks for pithead Projects . Costal Projects to use Imported coal Need 10000 Acre of land for establishing a UMPPs project Cost is around 4 billion USD .
