Sessions

CR was observed for a 60 minute class period During that time he got out of his seat 5 times CR gets out of his seat and refuses to return to it when redirected to do so

Classroom Teacher: CR is often out of his seat during independent work time CR refuses to go back to seat when asked to do so CR gains attention and escapes the assignment when out of his seat

Classroom Aide: CR gets out of his seat when he doesnt want to complete an assignment CR will not listen to teacher and wanders around the room or lays on the floor when directed to sit in his seat

Conclusion: CR displays target behavior during independent work

CR gets out of seat when independent work has started When attention is not given to CR right away he immediately get out of his seat to gain that attention

CR was selected for the behavior change project because his teacher expressed concern that he wasnt staying in his seat which may be impeding his ability to learn. This program will help to increase CRs compliance with sitting in his seat, which should help CR successfully complete his assignments. The function of the behavior is attention seeking and avoidance/escape

Description of Intervention Procedures: Tally Chart: CR will be taught to use a tally chart to self-regulate his own behavior. Reinforcement Procedures: In order to increase the amount of time CR stays in his seat, the following procedure has been put into place. When CR shows a listening body (sits in seat correctly, listening, and hands to self) he will earn a positive tally. Every 10 positive tallies are worth one pom pom for his behavior reward jar (class party when full). This procedure was chosen because it was hypothesized that attention seeking and escape were the functions of his behavior. This will allow CR to gain positive attention from his peers from earning the class a party. Punishment Procedures: If CR is not in his seat he will earn a negative tally on his tally sheet. For every 10 negative tallies he will drop a level.

CR responded well to the intervention used His frequency and duration of being out of seat reduced dramatically

How can CR gain teacher attention in a more positive way? What can be done to decrease the need for teacher attention? How can I help CR to use intrinsic motivation instead of rewards?
