Media skepticism - the degree to which individuals are skeptical toward the reality presented in the mass media. Media skepticism varies across individuals, from those who are mildly skeptical and accept most of what they see and hear in the media to those who completely discount and disbelieve the facts, values, and portrayal of reality in the media.
Please tell me how true each statement is about the media. Is it very true, not very true, or not at all true?
1. The program was not very accurate in its portrayal of the problem. 2. Most of the story was staged for entertainment purposes. 3. The presentation was slanted and unfair.
How are variables measured? Measurements in research Associating numbers or symbols to empirical events with a rule
Scale A scale is a mechanism by which individuals (units) are distinguished on how they differ from each other on the variable of interest
Measurement
Measurement means assigning numbers or other symbols to characteristics of objects according to certain prespecified rules.
One-to-one correspondence between the numbers and the characteristics being measured.
Scaling
Scaling involves creating a continuum upon which measured objects are located. Consider an attitude scale from 1 to 100. Each respondent is assigned a number from 1 to 100, with 1 = Extremely Unfavorable, and 100 = Extremely Favorable. Measurement is the actual assignment of a number from 1 to 100 to each respondent. Scaling is the process of placing the respondents on a continuum with respect to their attitude toward department stores.
