This presentation reviews the nascent Indian wine industry in terms of Trends, Opportunities & Challenges of wines in the

country.

HISTORY :Wine has been made in India for as many as 500 years. It was the early European travellers to the courts of the Mughal emperors Akbar, Jehangir and Shah Jehan in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries A.D. who reported tasting wines from the royal vineyards. Both red (Kandahar) and white wines (Bhokri, Fakdi, Sahebi etc.) were produced.

Introduction :Approximately 68 wineries are presently operating in the country with a total production of 10.2 million litres annually. Maharashtra is leading among the states with 60 wineries and 8.4 million litre production. Apart from this, 92,000 wine cases are imported .
